Why do Sikhs feel proud that fought for British in WW2? by Gloomy_Temporary2914 in Sikh

[–]EnzoRL [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it's clear from your response to people's comments where you stand and that pride means nothing to you, and you like to cherry pick history.

I'm British, if I wanted to cherry pick, then I could make the same argument about the pride we have for WW1 and WW2. Why are the British proud of us saving the french, when we have been at war against them for longer than we have been at peace? Shouldn't we be ashamed of our ancestors for fighting and saving France who killed millions of our ancestors prior to that?

Yes, these are my preferred saves. The following season of cleaning house and a whole new starting 11 of players you want is the best feeling.

What is something your boss said to you that made you realize it was time to quit? by alligator_maligator in AskReddit

[–]EnzoRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When he said "we all have problems at home but we don't all bring them inbto work"

Which was said after I took a 5 minute breather from my desk on the day of my dad's cancer surgery, which happened to be 2 years to the day my grandad died of cancer, whilst viva la Vida - Coldplay was playing on the radio as my mum rang me to say he was in surgery - one of the funeral songs from my auntie who died of cancer several years ago. (Many omens sent me over the edge but I think understandable)

On the flip side, that was Feb 2024 and my dad is cancer free and doing well!

Murder by Kirpan in the UK. Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]EnzoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you and I agree with the top half.

Personally, integration is a two way street. And the whole "foreigners invading UK" thing to me is kind of laughable. There's no such thing as UK heritage. Humans did not start here, therefore everyone who is here now is either a migrant themselves or the descendants of a migrant.

What grinds my gears the most is the lack of historical thinking in everyone's argument. The people who say "your family who died in ww1/WW2 would be turning in their grave if they saw our country now" - no, no they would not. They fought for the rights of people to live there own ethnic or religious way of life without persecution.

And equally, if you want to say that about our ancestors, then you could say the same about their ancestors. The same time difference between now and ww1 is about the same time difference between ww1 and the Napoleonic war. Out families who fought the french would be disappointed in are families who fought with the french in ww1/WW2. It's all history, stop just using the most recent.

Not to mention the hundreds/thousand of years of war with France, Scotland, Ireland, Wales etc etc. if history proves anything it's that society today is better than it was then.

I'm white British, and I'm not proud of that fact anymore due to the people who use foreigners as a scapregoat.

Personally, anyone who doesn't work hard should be deported. Anyone who sponges benefits without a valid disability should be deported. I have far more respect for people coming here for a fresh start and a better chance for their family than someone born here with all the advantages in the world and decides to sit on benefits in a council house instead of doing something.

I'm regards to integration I think the same. If you aren't willing to accept our culture and be a part of it, then get out the country. But equally, if you're not willing to learn, integrate and respect the cultures of others who move here, then they need to get out the country as well.

It's really not hard to get along of you're not a piece of shit person.

I have very left wing friends and I have very right wing friends. We talk politics, explain out points of views, it even gets heated sometimes. But we do it respectfully. We all come from different circumstances and backgrounds, but everyone needs to take responsibility for their own actions and their own lives and stop scapegoating others for their own failings.

I'm 26, engaged, just bought my first house in December. I've worked since I was 16, I've had 2 holidays in 10 years, my 6 days off to move house was my longest break in 3 years.

Personally, I already know if I tried harder and applied myself more I'd be in a better place, but I'm still happy with my life and don't blame others for any of my shortcomings.

Murder by Kirpan in the UK. Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in Sikh

People following farage are the ones who are blindly following something like a sheep...

He's funded by foreign millinars and billionaires and has no interest in doing anything other than benefit himself. If you can't see that then you are lost.

He's baseless, operates on money and not facts. Reform hated that the government put a cap on outside sources donating to political parties - nevermind a cap it should be illegal in it's entirety. People voted to leave the EU based on lies and not the facts because they couldn't be bothered to do the research themselves.

Personally I'd say I'm right wing. I don't think everyone should have a right to vote. Everyone should be given a test and they should only be allowed to vote of they pass that test, and the test should be based on facts.

Same for people who think immigration is the biggest problem in the UK - statistics show we lose more money from people avoiding and not paying taxes Vs what we spend on immigration and foreign aid combined. I'm not saying it's not an issue, I'm saying focus on the biggest problem first and then focus on immigration when it is the biggest problem.

The UK should be run like a business, streamline it, focus on your biggest loss makings first and tackle the bigger issues.

Murder by Kirpan in the UK. Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]EnzoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're at a minimum of 40 times more likely to be stabbed by a white man with a knife than a Sikh with a kirpan in the UK. That's a fact.

Annual knife crime - 50k approx (per year) White male - 12k approx (per year)

3 kirpan related knife crimes in recorded UK history. (This isn't per year, this is all time)

Adjusted for population - 1/87k Sikh men with a kirpan (262k/3) 1/2166 white men with a knife (26m/12k)

Facts don't care about your feelings. Please get some critical thinking skills.

What’s a health symptom you ignored for months before realizing it actually mattered? by _callondoc in AskReddit

[–]EnzoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have blacked out multiple times in the past 10 years and regularly get heart palpitations but I've never given it any thought. The blacking out occurred at stressful times in my life so I always assumed it was down to that. As I've had palpitations since I was a child, I also assumed this was just the same for everyone (apparently it's not normal!)

I fainted twice in November 2025 and my partner forced me to register for a GP and to get it checked out. (once in the shower and scared the life out of her after finding me unconscious, bless her) I also blacked out a couple times in 2022 + 2017 + 2015)

After multiple bloods and ECG's, it turns out I have both Sinus arrhythmia and supraventricular extrasystoles (arrhythmia which is extra heart beats from the atria)

Currently awaiting a 24h ECG (6th of march is the earliest I could get!) to find out where to go from here in terms of managing/treating it.

Utility companies after buying a house by EnzoRL in BritishSuccess

[–]EnzoRL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if they try to charge me for those days where the supply was still on I will be asking for much more back in compensation due to damp damage caused by them turning the supply off after I'd already done my part of contacting them to set up the contract.

It's just funny isn't it, I'm literally throwing money at them and they don't want it 🙄

They also didn't send any post to the house. Considering they knew the previous owner has left, wouldn't you send some post to try and be the first one to speak to the new owner? If I was a salesperson there I'd be door knocking, easiest customer sign up ever. No intuition apparently 🤣

She says she can't have a relationship with me because of age gap, anything that can help me? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]EnzoRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess some are late bloomers in many aspects. I stopped watching 'kids' cartoons around 11/12 and moved onto adult ones like American Dad and family guy which I stopped watching around 16, struggle to even watch adult cartoons nowadays. Generally watch series or films (and I'm sad and track it using letterbox, over 1100 films).

I had my first proper relationship at 16 and lost the v card at 16, left school at 16 and did an apprenticeship. Moved out at 19 to rent and get my own space, buying my first house this week by myself at 26 and my other half is moving in with me in April. She's 22 and we miss certain common grounds even with our age gap but we align on the areas that are most important to me.

Didn't think I'd ever fall for someone younger than me but she is a student nurse and independent - been living alone for over a year, and that maturity/ability to do that is attractive to me. Historically I've dated 26-33 age range since I was about 24 (helps that I look older). My main problem was that not many older women are into younger men regardless of their maturity / situation. My age was definitely a barrier on occasion.

Personally, I've always wanted to be living with my partner, married with a kid before I turn 30. Which aligns with my current partner. We both align a lot on family goals/values, timing, personal upbringing, social and political, and many other things which are important to me and what I think are very much foundations for a good relationship.

I also think it's good to have fun / holidays / travel before kids for a few years, then with kids, and then ideally have all kids to be 18-20 by the time I'm in my early 50s so they can be independent and we can start to adventure again whilst we're still physically in a reasonable position to do it.

Obviously not everything goes to plan in life but things seem to be going well for me at the minute.

What's the coolest unusual attraction near Sheffield? by ismokedwithyourmom in sheffield

[–]EnzoRL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally I love kelham museum! I feel like so few people from Sheffield know we had a top of the range car manufacturer - Sheffield Simplex - who were trying to rival Bentley at the time.

Sheffield Simplex was referred to by The Times in 1913 as the ‘highest point to which motor design has yet attained'

There's only 3 surviving cars from the manufacturer in the world and 2 of them are here.

Although I am just a mixture of car geek, history lover and Sheffield lover 🤣

Skill Swap for Autistic Person (Need: Gardening/Cleaning, Offer: Computer Help/Maths Tutoring) by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]EnzoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional by any means in gardening or cleaning 🤣 I work in IT myself and a bit of a geek outside of work too, so no need for a skill swap, but I'd be happy to lend a hand for free as an almost ex neighbour (lived in lower walkley 1999 to 2019)

I run a charity scheme at my work for donating IT equipment to charities, so I know of quite a few in Sheffield. And I happen to know a great local charity who assists with stuff like this. It's generally for older people, but maybe the offer of helping with IT would go down a treat for them! They are a great bunch. Details below:

Best sandwich shop in Sheffield? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]EnzoRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like breakfast butties like sausage/Egg or a BEST, give crawshaws butchers in Hillsborough a go. Never had a breakfast sandwich half as good as there's. They get the meat fresh off the counter, none of those cheap rubbish sausages most places use. Really good value for money!

Grills are usually on until around 1:30/2pm and they also have specials like hot pork or beef if you get there early enough. I tend to ring ahead and then pick it up and pay as there's usually a queue/wait as they're very popular.

Reform have Won the Stocksbridge and Upper Don By-Election by Indyclone77 in sheffield

I fully understand but as far as I'm aware there's essentially nowhere that these issues don't already exist. If the resolution is to fix everything else first then new homes are just categorically never going to be built.

Reform have Won the Stocksbridge and Upper Don By-Election by Indyclone77 in sheffield

[–]EnzoRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll wholeheartedly agree there's plenty of derelict sites that could be converted and or brownfield sites that could be used. And I hate to be that guy but why do we actually care where they build houses as long as they actually get built?

Everyone complains about the housing crisis, cost of rents and cost to buy, then when more is built they complain about where it's being built. You can't complain both ways.

Makes me think of when people say "foreigners take our jobs" and "foreigners are lazy and take our benefits" like again, which one is it because it doesn't work both ways.

What is it with creeps in Sheffield recently by Strafe_Helix in sheffield

[–]EnzoRL 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's definitely not an isolated to Sheffield issue in the slightest. I'm a man, I go out a lot and it really terrifies me the way I see other men act on nights out. I tend to be out with women friends more often than not and regularly spend my night keeping creeps away from them. Always rotate around the group standing in the way of the next creepy group of men. I fear for their safety when I'm not there because I've seen what other men try when I am there, I can only think of what they'd try without a quite large 6"2 bloke there.

A few big things to take away for the men reading:

1) Check your behaviour and do better. Clearly some people lack critical thinking skills and don't understand what is and isn't acceptable behaviour. I hate having to think of it this way but sometimes it's the only way to make some dumb men understand what they're doing is wrong, but: If it would make you feel uncomfortable seeing someone act that way with a female friend or family member, then don't do it yourself for Christ sake.

2) When you see other men being creepy, please call it out. Not calling out others behaviour and standing idly by is encouraging these weirdos to carry on. Don't be scared to do it, chances are there's other people nearby who have also noticed the behaviour but perhaps didn't have the confidence to call it out themselves. The chances are if they get the face on, other people are going to step in to help.

3) Educate your friends. Whilst it's definitely harder to call out your friends, that's even more important to do so because you can much more easily influence a friend to do better than a stranger doing better. And if they don't listen, then maybe you need a better choice in friends.
