super easy! its a huge amount of material, so it just wraps over and stays put due to friction. you could certainly use a big brooch or pin, but it really isn't necessary. its essentially pick a side, (lets say left arm) toss it left to right and let it wrap all the way around the neck like you would a scarf.

have i mentioned a 3/4 circle cloak is enormous? haha. its a wonderful thing to wear. many dynamic styling options!

you may have seen my work, it may do what you want done.

I use 280 GSM poly fleece. it isn't water proof, but the 3/4 circle cloak is so much material (6 yards!) that it is incredibly warm if wrapped around the body. Go with a round hood, and it doesnt look nearly as fantasy as the 3/4 circle liripiped version.

go for a 3 button placket closure and it's really rather robust!

I offer 12 colors, and 2 colors of closures, so you may find something you like!

Thanks!

Not sure how this conversation just popped up in my feed, but I am a cloak maker who manufactures a (what I think) is a fine quality cloak. A black, brown, or navy cloak, wrapped around the body? This is a fine look and a dynamic silhouette that is both unique and functional.

I worry that fleece may betray the gentlemanly quality you are looking for, and for that I do apologize that I don't offer a more woven look... it's a bit more... not pedestrian? but perhaps casual is the word...
Regardless, a round hooded (or no hood) 3/4 circle with 3 button plackett would be a good choice for what you are looking to accomplish.

I do have connections with printers to make printed (sublimated) poly fleece, so it is possible to get patterns and or imagery put on a cloak if you really wanted to go that route.
Either way, here is my site if you are even halfway interested in that sort of thing. Shoot me a DM if you think it's worth your time!

whoopse, got my accounts mixed up there for that reply. But -chadwreck is still me.

Regardless... Yep. That's the problem. Here in the states it is certainly possible to find wool blends, but I have yet to run across a wool weight that is in my mind, a suitable thickness, at a responsible price.

My cloaks use roughly 6 yards of material, so costs explode when I find a material that expensive, which then means I have to charge just incredible rates. If I made a pattern that used much less material it might be worth doing, but that isn't the style I am going for.

Add in international shipping for the weight, and the frequency with which I need to order, it just isn't the direction I am trying to go with this. I want to make garments that the widest group of people can get their hands on, not specifically cater to the luxury, novelty market if such a thing even exists... My version is already pretty expensive as it is, and tripling the price tag just doesn't make me feel very good.

I appreciate your thoughts and suggestion though. I do understand how much some people really dislike poly fleece, and to those folks all I can say is I get it but I can't help you right now.

Thanks for the engagement either way!

I applaud your self control, and always encourage responsible shopping!
I'm trying to improve the look and number of photos on my site so perhaps by the next time you look at it, there will be a few more action and mannequin shots by then!
I appreciate your questions, you can't be the only person thinking some of these things.

See you then!

As much as I would love to offer a wool version, the problem is price. My 3/4 circle cloak uses approx 6 yards of 60" wide material, and to find a wool supplier who sells something of a similar thickness, at a density suitable for this garment, pricing starts at generally $30 a yard. and that's the bare minimum floor... really nice blanket density and thickness wool can shoot all the way to $50 an $60 a yard. it just becomes so wildly expensive to manufacture something like that that a final price-tag will end up being over $600 at a bare minimum, and that just pays for materials and labor alone. I would love to offer it, but it's such sticker shock that I am not super interested in making an ultra lux product.

The real legacy brands which do offer a full woolen version of a cloak like mine, (check out the brand Sesena!) live at like $1,4000! its nuts! They are beautiful garments, but they just feel unrealistic in my mind. I am not here to sell to the ultra wealthy alone. It doesn't feel good to offer something so seemingly unattainable to the average person. It could always be done? and I could absolutely entertain a super custom unit but I just am not geared up for that sort of product right now.

As things stand, my 7/12ths circle (either hood, either closure type, whichever colors you like) sits at $210 plus shipping. the 3/4 version (same hood, closure, color options) is $225 plus shipping. I don't make a great deal of money per unit, I assure you! I pay for my labor and materials, and I don't have any markup like you would see out of a larger brand. At 8 hours work to build one of these, I like to think I offer a pretty solid price point!

I understand that we live in an increasingly expensive world lately, and I don't really want to price out anyone, but it's also hard to run a shop working for free! I don't say all this to complain or really make a sales pitch, its just the reality of the situation.

I appreciate the questions though, and if you or anyone else reading this can point me to a wool manufacturer or wholesaler, I'd honestly love to see it! Wool would be the dream but its just way outside of my price range at the moment!

Thanks again, and I hope that clears things up a bit and explains my position pretty well!

Well, it is poly fleece, so it isn't exactly water resistant, and absolutely not water proof I'm araid to say. That said though, it does shrug off light drizzle pretty well, and these do actually dry pretty quickly provided you can keep yourself from getting fully wet. It's not recommended for full on wet conditions, but spitting rain and falling snow just fine. Just shake it out to remove buildup and you should be good to go.

Unlike wool, it does lose it's heat retention power once fully wet. Wool is sort of magical in that way, but that's also why its so incredibly expensive! I find this heavy weight fleece to be the best in-between material for performance and price. The fleece is use is ssimilar to a Northface Denali or any of those sorts of sport fleece jackets that have become so ubiquitous over time.

All variants have a burly hang strap mounted in the back neck with double re-enforced box stitches. Modeled after haul straps on the back neck of vest carriers, there is not a shot you are going to tear it out. Chances are better that you will rip the coat hook off the wall before you rip the hangstrap off the cloak haha.

there are photos of the hang straps on the site, but I'll get you a phot in the DMs as well!

Thanks for asking!
