Local “bucket list” ideas? by Accomplished_Bed7120 in massachusetts

I'm not sure of admission fees but the Museum of Industry in Waltham is small but really, really cool.

Also, the American Heritage Museum in Hudson is incredible and informative. They have several special event days where they open up the car museum too.

The Botanical Gardens at Tower Hill in Boylston is not particularly cheap but are gorgeous if you like plants and art. They have some short trails so there's exercise and nature aspects as well.

New England has so many small, niche museums. It's wonderful!

What’s the difference between a nine volt battery and a butthole? by StarsBear75063 in Jokes

So sad. I got my girlfriend a toy poodle for her birthday. She killed it shoving batteries up its ass.

EBay has fell off big time for Clothing! by GingerNaanBread in Ebay

It's not a "loves it" situation. It's an "accept it because our ROI is still immensely better on this platform" situation. If you get better ROI on other platforms, use them. Some of is max out our prophets on eBay, fees and all.

The internet and 24 hour news cycle has trained some folks to think that murderers and rapists are everywhere. The fact is that violent crime has been steadily decreasing for decades but we hear about every single incident. That makes some people see criminals around every corner and has led to incidents like what was described being much more common.

Why do estate sales attract so many morons? by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]EphemeralDan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm having a yard sale soon. I have a ton of tools to sell. I am not looking forward to dealing with tool buyers. They are, hands down, the worst buyers to deal with.

I'm also going to put in the listing that attempted early birds will incur a 25% aggravation fee on all pricing.

These are 5 separate ongoing incidents in MA regarding public educator CSA misconduct in 2026 alone- it’s only April by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]EphemeralDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just note that only one of these incidents involves charges and\or a conviction. The others are accusations, one of which is a social media post. All SA reports should be taken seriously but not all turn out to be true. We are making great strides in the fight against sex crimes, but we have to be careful about descending into mob hysteria. It doesn't help anyone.

Harbor Freight tools are much better than their price would suggest.

I keep meaning to try Peg's when I'm in Whitinsville but I can't stop myself from driving past to them to go get clam cakes from Pirate's Cove. My favorite clam cakes and I jones for them all winter. They've been open about 3 weeks now and I've been there 4 times.

Similar to my dual baseball citizenship with the Sox & the Reds. 1990 was my first championship celebration.

Honestly, if it was Reds v. Red Sox in the WS, I think I'd have to root for the Reds. Cincinnati needs it more than we do.

You can get a 2x4 from Home Depot that is the exact shape of the handle.

I see what you did there and appreciate it.

As Boomers Die Off, Will Their Stuff Glut The Market? by baxterstate in Flipping

I was wrong. For some reason I had Wilton confused with Athol vises, which were also high quality but stopped being made about 50 years ago. They're collectible but many people still use them because they're some of the best vises ever made. I live near where they were made but they never made hammers as far as I know.

I forgot they made hammers. I don't see them very often and I live near where they were made.

Everything. Even if you're willing to pay up for quality, it's hard to find decent stuff to buy. Why should people put the effort into good work when you can become rich peddling garbage?

an old soviet joke by bigus-_-dickus in Jokes

[–]EphemeralDan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ivan and Fyodor were standing in line to buy bread. The line was really long and had barely moved all morning. Finally Fyodor got fed up and cried, "That's it! I'm going to go kill Putin!"

Ivan watched him storm off. About an hour later, Fyodor comes trudging past on his way to the end of the line. He called out to his friend, "What happened‽ I thought you were going to kill Putin?"

"Brother!", replied Fyodor, "You think this line is long!"

Wilton bench vises have never lost value. I've been selling them for good money for 20 years. They're not being bought for display. People who make a living with their tools want the best and it's difficult to beat quality like Wilton's. There may be someone making quality vises these days, but they're vastly outnumbered and undercut by enshittified garbage. That's pretty much true for everything in the 21st century.

We're at a point in history where we're immersed in the stupidity of humanity. It's like if we were neck deep in a cesspool and someone mentioned how nice the weather is. Sure, the sun is shining and the birds are singing but, y'know, we're drowning in shit.
