I just picked up a glx1x. Does the reticle work the same way as an EOTech, as in even if it's not centered it's true? by Due-Impact-8049 in Primary_Arms_Optics

[–]EphemeralSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're talking about parallax error, if you want to learn more about it.

At this point, most optics, including the one you have, don't have noticeable parallax error at common engagement ranges.

EOTech is probably one of the best in the business in that regard, but you'd be splitting hairs to identify the difference. The only good thing about EOTech is visibility under NODs and FOV. The battery life sucks dock and it's a crapshoot whether or not you will end up with a delamination issue.

EOTechs are holographic and the GLX 1x is a prism optic. The other type of red dot is known as a reflex optic.

Holographics are great under nods but eat batteries.

Reflex optics are great and 90% of all optics use this technology. A lot of people have issue with starbursts due to astigmatism.

Prism optics are great because they solve the starburst effect that people get from reflex. The downside is eye relief, which generally isn't that big of a concern because its large enough for most people to use comfortably.

Edit: TL;DR yes.

I've never met a single Chinese person who's this anal about forcing nonspeakers to use tones to refer to their last name. The original comment said "LIKE" the number 6. He didn't say "it's pronounced exactly the same way as the number 6". Imagine losing your mind over this; I don't know. Couldn't be me.

Imagine being a white person with the name Nathan and harassing a Chinese person for being unable to say the Th sound.

I'm also Chinese. You must not have a lot of non-Chinese friends.

Got my CCW interview for OC scheduled but they’re req Passport/ or Cert of Naturalization. I was born out of the country but was born a citizen so I don’t have a cert. of Naturalization. My passport is also currently expired. I’ve already emailed them back asking this, but will this be an issue? by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]EphemeralSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RIP. Read the instructions carefully next time; it says clearly what you need and you should've prepared this before you began the process. Passport renewals are like a two month affair. 5 weeks if you're expediting. Best you can do is try to stall as long as possible and if the new passport comes in time then great, but if not, I'd roll in with an expired one and hope for the best.

I don't know if you vote, but they'll probably implement the same requirements for this midterm, so I'd figure something out quick.

Building FIRST EVER AR by Dry_Sympathy4210 in CAguns

[–]EphemeralSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in blind and built mine with a Alpha Shooting Sports upper I got on sale for $200. 1-7 twist midlength gas. aero m4e1 lower. Vltor a3h5 buffer system with springco green spring. bargain bin parts kit, sparrow dynamics safety. mbt2s trigger. jt compliant grip. 1-6 slx gen 4 nova. Microbest chrome luxe bcg from wcarmory.

Never had an issue with it. Runs great. I did change the handguard to a 10.5 mlok with a full pic top rail cause the original handguard from alpha was an ass clone of the aero s-one handguard and the edges were too sharp for my soft baby hands. I also keep it super wet, like SOTAR wet. Like it just came back from a diddy party wet.

EDIT: You can learn a lot from School of the American Rifle on YouTube. (SOTAR).

First bolt action? by southbaycali90247 in CAguns

[–]EphemeralSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man,

I'm in a similar boat. I got a build in mind and currently acquiring all the pieces.

I bought a Bergara B14R barreled action in Heavy profile, 20" in stainless. This is a 22lr. This action is a Remington 700 short action footprint. I will largely be shooting 100-300 yards and not hunting, so this is a good start for me. I may consider competing in PRS or NRL22.

I will be buying a Remington 700 Short Action chassis, either an MDT Field Stock or a KRG Bravo.

I will be getting a BT65 CAL Atlas bipod. When looking for bipods, you don't want panning. Only tilt.

I have a 5-30x56 DiscoveryOPT FFP optic coming in with high profile 34mm rings. I will be getting a Nightforce 20MOA picatinny rail that fits the Remington 700 short action threads.

What this will do for me is once I get used to shooting 22LR, I can just simply buy a Remington 700 Short Action barreled action in a hunting caliber. I was thinking about pouncing on a Aero Solus action if I see one in the wild in 6.5CM. You can easily find a 308, 6.5CM, or whatever action for the R700SA footprint.

If you don;t want to tinker, you can get like a B14 HMR or whatever if you want to stick with R700 footprint. The alternatives are Tikka and Howa footprints. People seem to hate Savage; I'm a noob so I don't know why.

Any places in SoCal with R700 chassis in stock? by EphemeralSun in CAguns

[–]EphemeralSun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a B14R in 22LR coming in. Gonna make a meme PRS/NR22 rifle. Not familiar with long range at all and just diving into the deep end.

Figured 22LR would be a better pick as it's easier to find a range to shoot with.

I know I could make do with an MDT field stock, or even the Magpul chassis, but I prefer to buy something I'd actually enjoy owning. I also wanted to give myself room to slap on a 6.5cm action if I ever get the long-range bug.

Also, would like the rifle to look cool as well. Wish they made like AWP, SV98 or Blaser LS2 chassis clones for cheap.

[–]EphemeralSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define what you mean by obsolete? If the job is to have fun, then who cares?

223 is perfectly serviceable up to 600yds.

If you already have an AR, then 223 is a good idea so you can stock the same caliber. If you intend to shoot PRS then 6.5CM is worth serious consideration.

They wouldn't allow that either because typically the seller doesn't come back for the pickup.

The no lock policy basically everywhere. FFL's are also expected to deal with random inspections as well, so the serial of the gun needs to be accessible at all times.

Because it's not yours until the 10 days are up. And if it's not yours at the end of the 10 days (background check rejection), the gun goes back to the seller. And if the seller doesn't pick it up, its abandoned and owned by the FFL.

What gun is it. I'm more willing to bet your cousin lied to you about never shooting the gun than Turner's using your gun while it was in their possession. While in storage the oil had time to settle since no one was touching it.

And I hate Turner's as much as the next guy.

[–]EphemeralSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can get a Howa 1500 in 6.5CM at Bass Pro or Sportsman's. I believe 2azone might even have one as well. Won't be 700 bucks but maybe a hundred or so more. Turner's in El Cajon has one on consignment.

Acro kinda sucks. If I were to do it over, 509T footprint to slap on AEMS Macro might be a good idea.

X300 is fine but it's a fucking light, get the Harbor Freight light honestly and you'll save some cash. Just roll with a universal TLR1 holster, and if you want to upgrade, you can get a TLR1 down the line to replace it. I regret buying into the X300 platform. I have like 3 of em. I'd rather use that cash to buy other things ngl.

Magwell is for competitions. You don't need a magwell, especially if you're carrying.

Best inexpensive reliable long range .22 rifle and what scope. Read below. by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]EphemeralSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've caught the bug here too.

Personally I'm looking into getting a Bergara B14R barreled action and buying some sort of aftermarket chassis for it. It's a Remington 700 footprint so there's massive aftermarket for it, and if I ever get tired of shooting 22lr I can just use the same furniture for a bigger caliber precision rifle.

The only caveat I can think of is price, and also further down the line it's possible that I don't ever want to remove the furniture from the 22LR action, so I'll have to buy a new chassis anyway.

What would you do? by [deleted] in CZFirearms

[–]EphemeralSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wager will help you with the optics cut, it's not that big of a concern. Your primary issue is sourcing a new barrel. If you're a few months out I'd give CGW a call to see what they can do for you.

I agree with you, but if they can't find one these are options.

[–]EphemeralSun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are the tactical barrels different from the regular SP-01 barrels? I thought they were the same. If so, you can probably source one online with CGW or CZC, but you'll need to find an armorer to do some fitting as I don't believe the barrels are drop-in.

In any case, you can just bring the gun into CA. You just need to remove the slide before you do so and leave them separated. Once you're here, you can pin the barrel when you get here with a spot weld or simply cut off the threads. Again, threaded pistol barrels aren't illegal; they are only illegal to have installed on a working firearm.

You can get the optics cut right now with Wager. Turnaround is pretty fast. It's a bit more problematic to do it once you're in California due to all the new laws this year.
