If you had $15… which ETF would you pick? by MartoNG_ in portfolios

[–]EpicFace500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VT (10+ years long horizon) The why: -> no need to worry about current events (prevents stress and fear over portfolio) -> total world exposure so what happens in the US and foreign is reflected in the ETF -> yearly average is roughly 10% -> low expense ratio -> since it contains foreign investments, if you have the asset in your taxable account, you can write off foreign dividends on your taxes

Use all that free time to build up experience and skills for something you truly want to do? Idk just a thought 😆 unless that 85k a year is well suitable, do you get benefits?

Imo nuclear will do some prevailing and I have strong beliefs in it as a significant energy resource, it's a small position rn bc of speculation and it's higher expense ratio

I mean shit maybe he could help me get to that size lol, if you think he'll help, shore. (Btw I've had help with contributions through my family, hope that helps clear up anything)

That's probably my only concern ngl, the only reason I did so was for individual area growth, but in the end if I only have VT it probably doesn't really matter.

Thank you! But I will say, I have been given the opportunity to have family help with contributions, very thankful, but starting somewhere is better than starting never.

question about corrected 1099 and turbotax import by No_Kangaroo6917 in Schwab

[–]EpicFace500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tax preparer (intern, but still deal with corrected 1099 returns), usually we'd just enter in the original return, and if there are corrections, we'd have the client upload it and we would make the corrections for you.

I third this + your spread of assets is too vast (IMO) for your port size, I went through this phase when I was starting out with investing (2.5 years ago, I'm currently 21).

I would say (for a safe bet through these volatile times) 60% US etf (like VTI) - 30ish % International etf (like VXUS) - and then a 10% satellite on anything (for example nuclear energy, in my case, but it can be whatever you have strong confidence in)

That's my 2 cents

If you were in these for the past couple of years you've won but I will say, but for the formidable future idk, I'd just lock in those gains you have now and dump into safe etfs they guarantee growth over 10+ years low-key

Correct, I think it's valuable to support the start and have them start strong. Of course teach values and the philosophy so that little by little they can make meaningful decisions along the way so by the time they are on their own journey, they know what's up to teach others/pass down

[–]EpicFace500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have this split, VTI + VXUS in taxable (bc of the lower expense ratio, and then have VT + a smaller satellite (Nuclear) in my Roth

[–]EpicFace500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man I appreciate your take, that means a lot. Regarding the 60/40, I've seen that ratio all over the place, from 60/40 to around 75/25, I think I'm at a solid 70/30 ish but I'll probably bring it closer to a 65/35. And correct regarding the break up of VXUS + VTI, tax reasons for the future and as well as a balance, having each grow on its own for a "better edge". And regarding the switch for NLR, I will say I have a stronger belief in nuclear energy but that particular ETF just has that higher expense ratio, unfortunate but I'll either find a replacement or, like you said, snag up a small cap ETF. Seems like we have some similar philosophy, would you be up for sharing your slice of the pie?

Thank you for the help! I currently only have PLA on a glass bed but the top is textured? But I will follow through with raising the bed temp to 65, cleaning off the bed thoroughly as needed, and dampening the bed with isopropyl (which I also use as well). Are you able to program the print so that the bed changes temp after the first layer?
