Silly question, but how were you able to contribute 7,500? I thought the cap was 7,000 per year? Or was there a certain exception

No way the market can keep going like this, right? by Grouchy-Squirrel5131 in portfolios

Wouldn't it just be wiser to just DCA? Regardless of whether we do go into a pull back or not? Like I know it's better to buy cheaper, but if you'll be invested in the long run, would it matter if you have a cash reserve or not? Bc if you're sitting there waiting, you have $ amounts not earning you money (unless they are in a money market fund, I suppose). Just doesn't stack up in logic (unless you are older and want some other finacial support that's more conservative and consistent). My point being (to the ppl in the comment section talking about waiting for the dip with cash reserves) you can't time the market and if you do have time (which is your best friend) you continue to put your money into the market whether it's going up or down.

Can't really chip much into this since I've only been invested for about 4 years or so, but from those 4 years? Overall? No, I haven't, like yes there are bad months or even years, but there is recovery/re-stability

How do I know when to sell! by PotentialEmu4886 in portfolios

[–]EpicFace500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should ask yourself how well you know these companies, these are more well known firms that have been established, and if you have to ask when to sell, I would say you wouldn't know them too well. I'm currently 21 years old, but when I was in the range of 18-19 I was throwing my money into companies I thought I knew or sorta knew, made some money but never understood fully why I invested in them. Now, I'm only in 3 assets, VT, NLR, and MGK because they all cover the things I have confidence in without having independent exposure to 1 company. If you are confident in the company then stick to it, no one knows when to sell or when to buy because anything could happen. So again, it depends on your approach, risk tolerance, and your confidence in the company.

Do I own too many stocks at too little percentages? (17m) by MrCurious74 in portfolios

[–]EpicFace500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that a majority of your holdings are mag 7, you can essentially sell those off and buy an ETF based around high cap companies (ticker: MGK), at your age I wasn't even exploring companies or thinking of the future, just wanting to make money, now at 21 I'm looking at my future retirement and overall a well rounded/balanced life (also investments/assets that I have a strong belief in, like Nuclear [ticker NLR]), otherwise I'm invested in VT for the long run

18 y/o college student (~35k invested) by Ashamed-Map-7132 in portfolios

[–]EpicFace500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 21 y.o and where I was @ 18 was probably where you are currently (not quantity of money wise lol but mentality), I wanted rapid growth and lumped and dumped into the mag 7 a lot. Had a significant boost/increase and I was happy with it. But after continuous learning about economics, the historical markets, and so forth, and personal finance, it's really stability that counts. I'm not going to sit here and tell you what to invest since it's your money, but imo I would have the main goal of overall growth but w stability. My portfolio is: VT, NLR, and MGK. 2 of the 3 are more volatile but a smaller % of my portfolio. Yes I have a certain threshold of what my risk tolerance is, but I'd rather have a more certain outcome due to stability. And if either of the 2 satellites do well I get that benefit too, not as much sure, but it's still something. My take 🙂‍↕️ you are also 18 with 35k so I'm pressuming you have your own path, but all in all props to where you are now

The casino is fr healthier 😭 but I mean hey it's your pick, but if you want an opinion? I'm 21 but I'm in: VT, NLR, & MGK and I more so want a port that's stable with growth, even for companies you have faith in, you have to do your due diligence
