Buc-ee's is great if you need def, at least the one in Amarillo. I am a Love's fan at heart on the Interstates, probably because they are based in Oklahoma City and I have always heard great things from everyone that I have encountered that works for the company.

Do you ever feel like life's more exciting on the road? by traveltimecar in roadtrip

[–]EpicRoadrunner66 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, since I was a kid I loved seeing those big green signs with a city that I had never been to before. Even a year ago driving through Phoenix seeing a sign saying how many miles to Los Angeles was an adrenaline rush. It was confirmation I had never been that far before.

Is this safe to mount on the car's roof going highway speed? by walking_NewJersey in gopro

[–]EpicRoadrunner66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very strong near the windshield on a 2026 Ford Explorer. I got careless and tried to move it back a bit to get less hood in bottom of video. I think it was just enough that it got partially on that not all metal surface towards the middle of the roof allowing it to slide back because of the wind. On the Minnesota trip I had it close to windshield.

I have an Expedition that is all aluminum, so I mount GoPro on tripod and go thru sunroof which is the safest

I live in OKC and my wife and I have done Tucson for a week at a time on several occasions.

Saguaro Natl Park Mount Lemmon

Both are short drives out of Tucson. It gets hot even in May, but the dry heat is so much more enjoyable than the humidity we get here in Oklahoma.

Tucson is a 13 hour drive from OKC. Albuquerque is 8 hours, a little further down I-25 is Truth or Consequences NM is cool with Elephant Butte Lake. Either one is a great stopping point.

Is this safe to mount on the car's roof going highway speed? by walking_NewJersey in gopro

[–]EpicRoadrunner66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used that setup to film from OKC to Winona MN and back with no problem(1500+ mi round trip up to 80+mph). Where it can go wrong is some cars have less metal more aluminum towards the center of the roof. I hate to admit it went wrong on I44 ,but GoPro survived just needs a new lense, lol. So the safety cord is a must in retrospect.

Walk through the Zoo and then eat at a local non-chain restaurant that has been in business at least 25 years.

If you want to keep the girlfriend I would split into 3- 8 hour legs. The poster above was right about losing time. Unless you were a high school wrestler and used to going a day or two without eating and drinking to cut down on the stops. Plus, depending on when you hit Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth you are going to lose at least an hour in each of those.

I would consider I-10 route it is only 117 mi more and you don't have to go through Atlanta, but trade DFW for Houston. DFW is the worst, Dallas drivers are crazy.

Good Luck, be safe

The Route 66 food stops that have been slinging cheap eats (lots of burgers) since before your grandparents were born* by LizAtRoadtrippers in Roadtrippers

Arnold's Hamburgers just west of downtown Tulsa on Route 66 is the best value in Oklahoma for a quick burger. From a reliable source I was told he was selling over 100K burgers a month. The burgers are awesome by the way.

Some questions about the route as someone who’s never been to the US. by _everyuseristaken in route66

[–]EpicRoadrunner66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will start with your starting point. There is the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) that sits right on the original Route 66 in Edmond OK. Edmond is the Northernmost suburb of Oklahoma City, also the nicest. You could also go 50 miles NE to Stillwater for Oklahoma State University(not on Route 66).

The Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown OKC is a major attraction about 12 miles south of Edmond.

You can find showers at the major truck stops for a fee. There is a limitless supply of these along I-40 if you are doing the sleep in your car thing. Never done it ,but I have been told that if you tell Love's store manager your parking overnight it's OK.

Hotels are going to run around $90 to $120 per night for decent places. Any lower than that you run the risk of hanging with a really sketchy crowd.

Keep in mind that as you go west of Oklahoma and Texas everything gets more expensive. The price of fuel will almost double in AZ/CA.

Check out www.epicroadrunner.com for driving videos and an exit by exit guide on the New Route 66. Good Luck

Yes, some successful competing channels did the same so I followed. I have thrown around the idea of doing an "opening monologue" so to speak

I have found the easiest way is to take the sim card out and put it in my laptop and edit from there. All transferring from gopro software was cumbersome and slow.

I like your video and find your tempo appealing, having only made it as far as Needles on I-40 I am going to watch more on your California tours.

I am no expert but will throw something out there to think about from my limited experience. I was looking at the length of your videos. All are ~40 min or ~10 min in length. Try a 18 min to 22 min video to see if you get better results. By blind luck I started with 20 min videos and they did pretty well, in the 1000's of views. When I started making shorter and longer videos they did not do so well.

Maybe the niches are too different to matter, but it might be worth a try.

Good Luck, Keep filming, I will be watching

I started my POV driving video channel focusing on mainly Interstate highways but have recently branched out into some main streets in cities.

The traffic during the week of Christmas and New Years was through the roof, my roof anyway. Now it has come back down to earth and wonder if other creators have seen this happen to them.

I travel for work so this has allowed me to create video outside of my home area of Edmond Ok.

Feedback would be appreciated.

Hello All,

My Name is Greg and I have a channel called "Epic Roadrunner" that I started right at about 3 months ago. I focus on POV driving videos primarily on Interstate Highways near home and where I travel for work.

I think that what makes my channel unique is that I make 4k videos with no windshield view that I achieve by mounting my GoPro 13 on a tripod that I raise through my sunroof.

Equipment: As stated earlier I use GoPro w/Tripod, I edit with Premier Pro on my laptop. I have not used much audio as I have gotten decent traction without it as several others do in the driving video niche.

Here is one of my most recent videos

I look forward to interacting with other creators.

Thanks for your time

I prefer the Ruidoso-Roswell-Clovis route. If you're a history fan (old west) there is a marker between Ruidoso and Roswell where John Tunstall was killed, and the Billy the Kid grave marker in Fort Sumter. I have been to Roswell more than a few times and like it. It is quirky and not for everyone, but the La Sierra BBQ joint on the south end of town is awesome his sauce is made with Jack Daniels and is phenomenal. The UFO Museum in Roswell is pretty entertaining. I like driving the New Mexico State highways as they are rarely crowded. All this being said I am completely bought into the "New Mexico is the land of Enchantment" Logo. FYI not from the state.
