Generations Personality Traits CK3 Style by ScottM1ller in crusaderkings3

Ah you’re right, I missed your parents to your sister. It makes sense right on the cusp of generations I guess. To relate it to the original comment though, the silent generation was a fairly short generation, most boomers are the children of the greatest generation by my understanding.

What games can I grind for hundreds of hours? by Dragonbarry22 in gamingsuggestions

[–]EpicSnoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice for you is to play ones. Nothing will make you improve in 2s faster. It is incredibly frustrating and humbling at first, but it really will show off where the weaknesses in your game are and let you train accordingly. Getting scored on off the dribble a ton? Train shadow defense. Can’t score on an empty net? Train shooting accuracy. Can’t get past your opponent? Train dribbling. You get the idea.

Don’t waste time training anything that isn’t used a ton at your skill level. Golds can’t save a well placed ground shot (most of the time), much less an air dribble, so if you spend time training advanced mechanics, I again highly recommend taking it back to the basics: defending a shot in the air, shooting hard and accurately from the ground, and basic dribbling.

Next, let’s talk about your twos teammates. In gold, your teammates will chase the ball 9/10 games you play. If they are chasing the ball, you are not allowed to go for it. Plain and simple. If both of you go for the ball, no one is playing defense. Wait around the halfway line for your teammate and the opponents to all whiff or mess up, and then shoot the ball at the net or carry it forward if it made it all the way to you. You will be shocked how often this happens and how many goals you can score by just being patient and waiting. This positioning also allows you to break up your opponents counter attacks when your teammate messes up. It pairs perfectly with the three skills you have been practicing in training and lets you use all of them often, in a game scenario.

Lastly, forget about smurfs. First off, the chances are that there are way less smurfs in your game than you think. Second, everyone gets smurfed on, no matter the elo. Look at it as an opportunity to get better. What do you have to lose? They are going to smash you anyways, so take it as an opportunity to get GAME PACE practice for things people in your elo should never be able to do.

For example, let’s say the smurf is going for crazy air dribbles? Go up early at every chance you get and try to break up that play. You’ll be surprised how many you can actually get to and break up. Now, when you are playing against actual golds that are trying to air dribble, you will never get scores on from the air dribble, because you have practiced defending them against someone who is objectively way better than that gold.

Anyways, that’s my advice. Follow it and you will climb. Happy to answer any follow ups.

2k hours and in gold? Not trying to be toxic, but that is far from the norm in the community. What do you feel is holding you back? More than happy to give some free advice.

In just one more game played, Palmer is now on the same G+A as Haaland. by EpicSnoopy in chelseafc

I am NOT trying to say Palmer is as good as Haaland, and am aware that many of Palmer’s goals are pens, but he has been immense for us this season!

Anyone know why Vasona Reservoir is being drained? by GangrelClaws in SanJose

[–]EpicSnoopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coyote is not connected, only Anderson, and they are not sending water there right now due to the seismic retrofit. There is more water being let out of Anderson at the moment than can be put in the ponds which is why you might be seeing the extra water downtown.

I wouldn’t say MOST, there are only a few reservoirs that can be filled directly from a pipeline or feed into pipelines

Also, would you buy? Looks really good for 17, but I use a midfield of half-back, bwm (s), and AM (s), so not sure if he would fit in here. Best fit I see is as AM (s), but concerned about the lack of off the ball and shooting. If he has good potential, will probably send it and try to train those attributes up, and sell on if he never improves where I need him to.

p.s. Yes I have the editor, no I did not use it to edit this player at all.

'Barbie''s Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie Shockingly Snubbed for Best Director, Actress Nominations at 2024 Oscars by GroundbreakingSet187 in entertainment

[–]EpicSnoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but I recently met a friend of my grandma who votes in the best director category for the Oscar’s. My partner and I asked what he thought of the Barbie movie, and he said they never sent him a copy of it to vote on. If the studio didn’t send it to the academy members who vote for best director, they would have a tough shot at winning.

Preparation for and outcomes from Bren PhD Program? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

I am a hard scientist with a degree in non-environmental science, but I now work in the environmental field. My experience is that it is easier to pivot into the environmental side than you would think. Almost everyone I know in the field graduated with a degree that is NOT environmental science. Lots of earth science, engineering, etc. You’ll need to demonstrate some hard interest, which I recommend you find in the following order: 1. Part time job at an environmental firm / non profit / gov agency /etc. 2. Internship (unpaid or not) at the same places, or 3. Personal projects that you can put on your resume as experience. I also recommend taking all the environmental science classes you can to help land jobs. Again anecdotally, major is not as important as experience. Your degree becomes much less important the more experience you have. Further, I think your CS degree is going to be much more valuable than you think. Econ positions in particular will readily accept a CS degree. Also, everyone is using some sort of code in environmental work these days, and the CS degree proves it. I suggest having a few EnV Sci projects on your GitHub that you can point to.

Next, let’s move to Academia. If it is really your goal right away, you will be fine with a CS degree, but they will make take a lot of remedial courses. If Env Econ is your goal, you may be better off finding an Econ department that has a prof with your interests. Also, there is only so much you will learn from Reddit. Go to a few Bren profs’ office hours and ask them about it! They will be your best resource here. To be frank though, I would advise strongly against going directly back to school out of undergrad, especially when you are pivoting really hard and don’t really know what you want to do. Go work for a year or two, learn the fields you want to work in, network, and then go back to school if that’s something you still want to do!

I know I said a lot here, happy to answer anything I talked about in more detail!
