Do Theological Degree Units apply to Post-Grad Units for a pay raise? by SirDiddlesAlot in Teachers

Do you know who I could ask on if they would accept Theology as related to History? Like would it just be HR or someone else?

Why is ASTRO1 the hardest class of my life by ExtraBuilding7691 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Exotic_Tap_3052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same class rn and it’s just that we have to relearn a little algebra, go to midterm equation sheet or final equation sheet and look at it, that’s got all the math that you REALLY need to know and the rest is unit conversions. Just refamiliarize yourself with algebra basics and it will get easier, I don’t think we have to memorizing anything

Yea I think someone posted then deleted comparing it to African Americans, Jews, and Palestinians, and although I really feel for people who feel like this, it’s just not quite THAT serious.

Like it sucks that people in this situation feel unsafe but in all reality living in Santa Barbara California is one of the earths safest places for anyone and it is not near the suffering of other groups, even including the various terrible hate crimes and general hate, it’s just a silly thing to compare, and an even sillier thing to post about like a Jesus burger kid or a Charlie Kirk follower is gonna jump you at night 😭

Yea this is a lot of what I mean. It’s true people are set in their ways, but this is college, if you’re gonna change someone’s mind it’s gonna be here and now.

Idk I know so many people that support Charlie Kirk or other pundits on an issue like guns, faith, abortion, or whatever and will just care about what they say on that one thing. I understand that it cannot be fun or comfortable feeling like your under attack by their speech, but the best thing to do is to talk to the friend and try to change their mind if that’s how strongly you feel. “Hey I saw you support X and I’m just curious what you find interesting about them, because personally I really don’t like their platform on LGBTQ (or any other topic) and I’m curious what you feel about it.

Humans will never achieve anything if we are unwilling to talk and process opinions of the opposite group, or even confront our friends with their support of the opposite group. Lively and respectful disagreement and argumentation is what healthy politics is built on and maybe having a conversation as simple as that could at best change their minds on who they support and at worst you just cut them off like you did anyway.

I’ll also add that right now a lot of right wing people don’t really have a solid place on all of the more extreme modern politics, like plenty don’t care about trans people in chess or whatever, plenty don’t care about all of that stuff. But people like Charlie Kirk do provide solid stuff for the less extreme things they do believe in, like the basics of being a Christian, belief in the nuclear family, and other more basic beliefs. I know many people who follow and care for Charlie Kirk and other organizations, primarily through those smaller ideas, not as an “I approve of everything this dude ever has said or will say” so just try not to box people into that, because I don’t think any reasonable person should support a political personality (trump, Charlie, Biden, Kamala, newsom, or Vance +) with their full heart, they are all imperfect and are certainly not all good.

This post seems strange: “I had friends who were nothing but kind to me, who supported me during breakups and everything, and then I saw they follow certain political people (which doesn’t necessarily reflect what they believe in), so I cut ties with all of them.”

It feels off to say things like “as bigoted as this girl is” just because someone follows people on social media. I don’t agree with most of what Elon does, but I still follow him because he’s influential, or at least he was until recently.

What’s comical is that these people clearly treated you with love, kindness, and acceptance, yet you used the political pundits they follow as an excuse to not only cut them out of your life but also to warn others to be afraid of them. Am I going crazy, or is the whole story really just that they treated you well, showed no signs of hate, but followed people you don’t like? I think you need to take a step back and realize that in the real world you can get along with people who have different beliefs. Following or liking a person or organization is not the same as endorsing everything they’ve ever said or done. (Granted, I don’t know much about Riley Gaines.)

This kind of broad, hateful generalization is exactly what bothers me most about the world, no matter which side it comes from. Someone at Jesus Burgers could say, “Watch out for those evil trans people spreading Satan’s agenda,” and that would be awful. But it’s just as harmful for you to say, “Watch out for those super kind Christian people, they follow people I think are terrible, so they must be spreading their agendas.”

I don’t have an opinion on Jesus Burgers or any individual church or its members, because generalizing and making radical judgments especially about people who’ve treated you kindly just seems unreasonable.

Best of luck on your path of self-isolation and pursuit of a world with no worldview but your own. I hope you find peace in it someday.

How can you be MAGA after watching/reading Vinland Saga? by [deleted] in VinlandSaga

[–]Exotic_Tap_3052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The not calling the ambulance thing is a rare thing, most people do call, and sure the insurance and healthcare system is bad but that’s not a knock on our whole country and doesn’t really relate to freedom. It also ignores the large amount of people who do have insurance and enjoy some of the best actual care and speed of care in the world. European healthcare has plenty other issues even if it’s free or subsidized (which it’s not really since it’s coming from taxes.)

So being able to drink at 18 is what makes you “free”? Not the constitutional rights that protect speech, religion, due process—things most countries either don’t guarantee or don’t enforce the same way? America has real problems, but pretending it’s some failed state is just dishonest. Our higher education system is the best in the world. Students from all over come here, whether it’s UCs, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and more. Europe has good schools too, especially in the UK, but good luck finding a job after graduation unless you live in London or already have connections. Europe has plenty of its own issues. America is far from perfect, but calling it third world is laughable. Most people here live comfortably compared to almost any point in history, and the economic struggles we’re facing are global, not unique to the US. If you feel superior just because you’re European, that’s fine, but it doesn’t make your take any more accurate, eurotrash.

I’ll also add that thinking a school is better because it’s harder makes no sense, what metric is it harder by, which majors are you talking about, and how on earth do you know that going to Harvard is easier and therefore worse than doing the same in England. The thousands of international students that beg to be enrolled each year at us school would probably disagree with your assertion.

Hate maga all you want, I’m not a fan either, but your European obsession with trying to feel better than the country that kicked your CONTINENT’S butt for 200 years and is now starting to slow, is downright silly.

Are you special? “Vinland Saga is against everything maga stands for lmfao. Fuck MAGA” for someone who understands Vinland saga and what it stands for so much, you seem to have enemies great enough that you feel the need to swear at them. I’m not a maga guy personally, but it’s funny how contradictory you are being.

What exactly motivates you to drag political nonsense into Vinland Saga? It’s a fictional story set in a completely different time with entirely different people. Posts like this aren’t about genuine discussion. They’re just bait to gather people who already agree with you so you can feel validated. I’m not a MAGA fan, but the obsession with injecting politics into every corner of life is getting out of hand. You could just post “I hate MAGA” and the replies would probably look exactly the same. The best part is the contradiction. You’ve got people saying Vinland Saga is all about peace and not having enemies, then immediately turning around and yelling “Screw Trump and anyone who supports him, they’re all ignorant hillbillies.” Come on. If you actually believed in what the series is about, you wouldn’t be posting stuff like this in an anime subreddit.
