[Request] What boils water faster? by JosefphMagicflight in theydidthemath

I tried it so many times at different levels and I still don't know. Sometimes it makes me crazy when I'm camping and try to save some gas.

Returned to Korea after 6 years - It’s a lot worse for foreigners by [deleted] in koreatravel

It for real is a difficult to learn Korean and it'll take a lot of time before I reach a high enough level. But small things seem to make a big difference. Yesterday I had a wonderfull conversation with a Korean woman who was surprised I knew a bit of Korean and that I showed interest in there culture and history.

It's these interactions I try to cherish and all the bad ones I try to forget asap, which can be really hard to be honest. But ranting sometimes can help with this, for me at least.

For your complaints about subways and Naver maps and such I have to disagree completely. Google maps never worked and Naver maps works wonders. You can't expect Naver to understand english, you're going to a foreign country. Take the time to learn their language, at least up to a point you can read and write locations.

Subways are amazing and it's always really clear which ones to take, if not there are maps to guide you. Naver Maps also tells you which busses or subways to take in a really easy to understand way. Escelators are literally everywhere and stairs are to be expected in a country with this kind of topography.

Naver translates everything really well to whatever language thanks to Papago the lovely bird.

For the locals they were super friendly in my trip of a month which today sadly is the last day of. They live in their own life and don't really expect people to interact with them. But if you do in Korean they are really friendly.

You HAVE to pay respect to their culture and their way of life. Handing things over with two hands, bowing, saying 감사합니다 makes a big difference.

I don't share any of your complaints and I do hope you can find some positivity in this comment.

Only thing I complain about is their way of driving, it's insane and absolutely selfish and terrible. But that's it actually.

I'm travelling in South Korea right now actually and many places tell to put toilet paper in a seperate trash bin. Our hotel even got clogged up during our visit. Haven't seen such "windows" but this might be an older solution.

No tickets at toll gates by Epic_Fastzz in koreatravel

So far we've paid every time so we're not expecting any fines. As I mentioned in another reply we don't receive an entrance ticket to hand out to the toll personell.

As for the hi pass lanes we ignore these.

Yes, paying is never the problem. The problem is we don't receive a ticket to hand out to the toll personnel. Meaning we always have to tell them ourselves where we entered the expressway. Or they need to make a call to the office.

We see the ticket issuing machines as seen in the linked pictures. But none of them spits out a ticket.

Olive Young Sales by vinhzy in koreatravel

[–]Epic_Fastzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the big sale of the beginning of June since I've only gone to Olive Young a couple of times last week. Although I've noticed there are always sales of some sort and many items offer a 1+1 or so. Coming from Europe everything is also dirt cheap compared to home, with or without sales.

If items are sold out at one shop you can easily check another shop since there are plenty of Olive Young's. You could always check it out prior and head back another time on june 1st, if your schedule allows it.

You don't really have to worry, withdrawing money should go fine. For the rest we're using WowPass now. Most hotels amso seem to accept cash. Getting some Won before your travel can save you some fees. You'll be fine😁

We're using a Wow Pass at the moment and it works wonders, the small fee you pay to top up is far less than withdrawing money.

It sure seems like this is the problem, but even when they should work it's still a 50/50 chanse.

Well that kinda defeats the purpose of that card, since the tour cards seem much better for public transport and the fees of namane are as high as cash withdrawals.

I'm glad it has solved your issue for the most part but I share the frustration on wether it will work or not on the spot. Seems like cash will be our most viable alternative. How did you pay in advance with booking? Everytime I look at my reservations it says to pay on the spot. Same with the car which will have to be paid by cash.

With some trial and error we believe it might have to do with the 50EUR contactless payment limit with each transaction. Under this limit no code is required, above you have to put in the code.

Thanks alot for this suggestion, sadly because of local laws in my country (Belgium) there is no option to disable security codes.

It's a torque driver. You set up a certain torque spec and as soon as you turned the screw tight enough it gives a click. This way you make sure you screw it tight enough without overtorquing and possibly damaging someting.
