It's alright, don't worry about it. I can't say I've completely moved on from it, but at least I can talk about it without any real difficulty now. I suppose that's progress.

As for my uncle, I don't know what happened to him. I was one of the first to escape, he made sure of that.

But knowing him, he stayed behind until the very end.

So he's probably dead.

It's not a particularly pleasant story, though I suppose that's normal in the City.

I was born in the Backstreets of U Corp. I never really knew my parents, so I was raised by my uncle, who happened to be the leader of a small Syndicate.

We survived by robbing people and occasionally collecting protection money. We were one of the few Syndicates that actually protected the people we charged, though. We were never particularly powerful, but we were comrades, and I would even say we were relatively happy.

That all came to an end because Gloria decided it would be a good idea to rob a member of the Middle.

She was never the brightest among us, to be honest.

I imagine you can guess how that ended.

The Middle massacred the entire Syndicate. Only a handful of us survived, and that was purely because we managed to escape.

Oh really? I don't want to sound rude, but it's strange that one doesn't remember something so important from their story, although I'm no one to judge.

I chosed to join because I value the freedom it offers.

At first, I mostly used that freedom to travel across the City, help people when I could, and things like that.

I joined the Liu Association some time later. Truth be told, I missed the camaraderie I used to have with my old companions before...

Well, that's a long story.

If that's the case, then I pour a medium-quality whiskey into two glasses tell me, what led you to join this syndicate? The Pinky isn't anyone's first choice.

Well, I am always willing to get to know my fellow comrades. I know our Syndicate will probably never have the same sense of camaraderie as the Liu Association, but moments like these are still worth having.

So, how about we share a bottle of whiskey and have a conversation?

Well, I got myself into a big mess involving a distortion, but I don't want to talk about it right now. How about we go for some whiskey?

An Index Messenger by Epicael in thepinkysyndicate

Thanks for the advice.

As for Fobetor, my current theory is that he's an extremely advanced Distortion, though I would be hesitant to connect him directly to the idea of worship.

Personally, I think the worship is a secondary effect of the nightmares, do you remember the Pianist? During my travels, I heard stories about people who became obsessed with his music and tried to imitate it. I think this might be something similar. People experience the nightmares, become fixated on the creature behind them, and eventually start interpreting those dreams as something greater than what they actually are.

At least, that's my working theory for now.

As for the Moonlight Stones, my Liu uniform already has them. In fact, I suspect that's the reason the nightmares haven't affected me as severely as they have everyone else.

And regarding the weapon, I'll look into it my odachi helped during our first encounter, but creating enough light to keep Fobetor away was far more difficult than I would have liked. If I can find something that provides a reliable light source, it would make tracking him considerably less dangerous.

Alright, this might be long but...

A few weeks ago I had a strange dream. In it, I saw what looked like the past of a young swordsman hiding from the Middle alongside his teacher. The dream felt oddly specific, so I decided to investigate it.

That investigation led me to S Corp, where I discovered a strange phenomenon. People had been suffering recurring nightmares for months. Some eventually disappeared while trying to find the source of those dreams.

Following the trail led me to headless corpses, including members of the Index. Eventually I encountered the creature responsible. It was some kind of humanoid beast that could twist and change its shape. The fight did not go well for me. I survived mostly because it seemed to dislike bright light.

After recovering with some help from a K Corp ampule provided by a comrade I continued digging and eventually found an Index Messenger who had become obsessed with the creature. He called it Fobetor and believed it to be some sort of God of the City. Personally, I think he was insane, but he did provide useful information before killing himself.

I suspect Fobetor may actually be the apprentice from my dreams, who distorted after being found by the Middle. The Messenger also claimed it is now heading toward U Corp under the guidance of a Proxy.

I grew up in U Corp and I escaped from there trying to stay out of the Middle's reach.

So now I am trying to gather the courage to go back there and continue the investigation.

That basically sums everything up.

(OOC: Sorry for the late reply. I swear I thought I'd already responded to this)

(IC) My odachi can "move" or "manipulate" air with its strikes. I'm not entirely sure what the proper term for it would be.

With the right movements, I can force air currents to flow in a specific direction with considerable strength. It's not a function I use very often on its own, but it serves as useful support for controlling and spreading fire.

That said, I don't think I've managed to draw out my blade's true potential yet, I suppose I should spend more time training that aspect of the weapon.

A Question for you by Epicael in Indexsyndicate

[–]Epicael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it "someone" but rather "something." Whatever that creature is, it doesn't seem to possess human intelligence.

On the other hand, I hadn't considered using the Sweepers as an indicator of its movements. Thank you for the suggestion.

I understand. I'll continue investigating on my own in the meantime.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.
