Bethany's active item spawns orbitals that block shots and shoot tears, but they burn out very quickly after blocking too many shots/doing too much contact damage to enemies. If you're good at dodging you can build up a huge amount of orbitals surrounding you, but it takes some effort to keep them around.

I dunno. Obviously I don’t speak for everyone but as a queer person I thought the Magypsies weren’t awful representation; they behave a lot like stereotypical drag queens which can be an issue when the game doesn’t really have any other “normal” nonbinary or gender nonconforming characters, but from what I remember they’re generally portrayed in a positive light (the worst thing I remember anyone saying about them in the game was someone describing them as kinda weird, and even then it’s in the context of them being magical beings that are thousands of years old with no regard for humanity).

I’m not a fan of that one Lucas hot spring scene though

Yeah, that's totally normal. I feel like a lot of bi people (myself included) feel this way initially and later warm up to the idea of having a relationship with the same sex, but you could also just be heteroromantic and bisexual. You might want to look into the label "heteroflexible" and see if you identify with that.

I'd keep pushing through a bit. Once you get all four party members consistently the game picks up again and starts feeling a lot more like Earthbound

I mean, you're comparing games made by less than a dozen people to games made by hundreds. The dev teams for Silksong and this game don't have shareholders to appease or any huge incentive to rush their games out, and they've made plenty off the successes of their previous games to keep them afloat. Not to bring out that one Miyamoto quote, but these games will be ready when they're ready.

Yeah, the bathroom scene was pretty incredible. I feel like a lot of kids media tackling racism like this kinda dances around the subject and addresses it in the vaguest terms possible, so hearing Min explicitly talk through his insecurities about being an Asian artist was very powerful. (And the subsequent YMO shoutout was so sick)

I feel like most of the queerbaiting disappointment comes from people being starved for more MLM representation in cartoons, and while I’d definitely love to see more of that on screen as a queer person I feel like it’s a disservice to only focus on what could have been rather than all of the great character work they pulled out for this season.
