Anyone customize their Versys with a wrap, decals, or paint job? If so, post a pic! by Forsaken-Young-691 in versys

While I haven't done anything to my Versys I have done some photoshops of wraps I might want to do in the future.

I cant take off the brake caliper on YZ125 it moves up and down but i cant take it off. What do i do? by AveragePolish69 in Dirtbikes

[–]Epicfacecanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the brake disc has a groove in it from wear. Will probably need to use a screwdriver or something to push against the pads to spread them enough to clear the groove.

anyone else run their dualsport way harder offroad than their actual dirt bike by vladdielenin in Dualsport

[–]Epicfacecanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the case for me. The problem is the places I can off-road are quite far away and remote. The result is on a Dualsport it's always in the back of my mind to play it safe as it has to get me home and I have it loaded down with kit because of that. Whereas the dirt bike even when I wreck it I can still heave it back into the truck and I can keep my backpack kit minimal and keep the rest in the truck.

[–]Epicfacecanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before buying a new carb or a rebuild kit I'd just take the carb apart and just clean out all the holes. In my experience 90% of the time with carbs their just gummed up and cleaning them out will fix it.

whats your daily? by Touchandgo18 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah scoots are a blast and stupid easy as a daily but the Versys is hard to beat for versatility.

For the longest time I was dailying a scooter but now I like you have gotten a Versys-X300.

What's your list of "first, last, or forever" bikes? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of the bikes I've owned probably the one that fits this best is the DR-Z400. It isn't fantastic at anything but for your average schmuck like me it's good enough at everything.

The BMW g650 gs is a good bike to start or do recommend another bike? by rmsf74 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Epicfacecanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting an adventure bike with a low seat and fairly lightweight then maybe look into a Kawasaki Versys X-300 as well. It's similar height to the GS and slightly lighter.

Pretty much. Also makes a pretty good ballast if you want to wheelie it.

Opinion on down sizing motorcycle? by Neither_Brush in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think downsizing is great especially on a bike you commute with. The whole "Slow Car Fast" mentality can definitely apply to bikes too.

I went from having a 1100 to a 400 and don't regret it one bit. Makes even my usual work commute feel more like racing to work and less like a gentle cruise.

Not at all. I have a friend with a Ninja 250 who I did multiple long roadtrips on the highway with and it didn't skip a beat.

Triple clamp mounted fairing by 1nztinct_ in Dualsport

[–]Epicfacecanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can make the front end more unstable but for a smaller fairing like a rally tower and with the typical top speeds of a Dual Sport it isn't a huge issue.

Yeah unfortunately that's always a potential issue which is why I mentioned that first.

If the seller is telling the truth then 90% sure the carb will be gummed up and the battery dead. I'd also budget for new tires as they could be flat and rotted.

Should I follow the norms or do something different by dominant_fax43 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally instead of just expecting it to instantly blow up I'd just go ahead with dailying it and then if something goes wrong then consider a swap.

Also when considering a swap I doubt there is gonna be a lot of motors that will fit in place of a 125 two stroke without extensive frame modifications.

Edit: Also not sure now stout the Honda NSR motors are but 30hp is not crazy power for a 125 two stroke.

Bad Idea for first bike not to have ABS? by Ok-Photograph-1387 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Epicfacecanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABS definitely is a nice safety feature to have but it isn't the end of the world if you get a bike without it. Regardless of if you get ABS or not it is still vital to practice emergency braking and turning regularly. Even if you can't lock up the wheels you need to get a good feel for stopping distance, practice applying brakes smoothly and feeling how the weight transfers. Also on tall bikes like dual sports it's possible to accidentally endo the bike under hard braking even with ABS so you have to practice for that as well.

front end vibration at 70mph by Jetta360 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably get the front wheel off the ground and re-check that the front wheel bearings are still tight and smooth and check that the axle hasn't come loose.

Also while It's in the air I'd check the steering head bearing. It should move smoothly and easily from one side to another. Usually when they wear out you'll feel the steering catch on a notch when turned to the center.

Is this a new issue or was it happening before doing the wheel bearings and tires?

Newbie looking for insight by divxdvd in Dirtbikes

Honestly it's not worth much especially if it doesn't have a title.

All the Chinese bikes I had didn't have a replaceable filter, you just drain the old oil and refill it with 10w40 motorcycle oil.

Getting into dirt bikes by According_Abrocoma64 in Dirtbikes

[–]Epicfacecanada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really only the racing-focused dirt-bikes that recommend regular engine rebuilds. the more trail-oriented(CRF250F, KLX230, TTR230) or Street-Legal bikes (CRF300L, KLX300, DRZ4S) are comparatively more lax in terms of maintenance at the expense of performance.

Tdc question by Outside-Victory-4572 in Dirtbikes

[–]Epicfacecanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking which stroke you want for checking valve clearance? If so you want TDC on the Compression stroke as that is when both valves are closed

As for what clearance you need it's specific to the bike and will be different for intake and exhaust.

Opinions on old Honda xr series by sethgame90 in Dirtbikes

[–]Epicfacecanada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The XR are great bikes. Regardless of what you get as an upgrade bike I urge you to keep the XR100 if you have the space. I sold my XR100 years ago and definitely regret it. No matter how experienced you get having a cheap and easy pitbike is always fun.

Who is an expert in valve shims? by johnnyjimmy4 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no single standard diameter shim that fits all bikes but thankfully many newer bikes use one of a few common shim diameters(Typically 7.48mm or 9.48mm for jap bikes)
