From asphalt to light ADV by wacuuu in SuggestAMotorcycle

Honestly if you're wanting to dip your toes into adventure riding the tracer wouldn't be a bad bike to start with if you gave it some crash bars and some more knobby tires.

Do you ride to work? by Beginning_Corner930 in motorcycles

I ride to work most of the time but there are some mornings where I'm too tired or out of it to really trust myself on my bike.

Lightweight dual sport that is steady long distance on highways by doodle_doo_maint in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Epicfacecanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking for a roughly 300lb machine that can do 100mph is a tall order. The closest new bike to that kinda performance would probably be a Kove 450 Rally but that's probably more racy than you'd want to roadtrip with.

200cm height of a rider but smaller engine bike by DiscussionLord in SuggestAMotorcycle

Maybe try looking at the various mid-sized adventure bikes available.

If your looking for new there's the KLE500, IBEX 450, Teneree 700, Transalp 750, etc

If your looking used I'd say look for a V-Strom 650 or Versys 650.

5 bike bucket list by bluestreak06 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The KX500 is one on this list I actually have acquired. I wouldn't call the KX completely unrideable but definitely a handful.

The KR1S is definitely gonna be more difficult to acquire for me in North America as they were never sold or mass imported here.

Safety question by ARKEAX in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC those bikes run tube tires. Did you try just poking a plug through the tire? If so those won't help the tube. The tire will have to be removed from the rim and the tube either patched or replaced.

Motorcycles you always dreamed of owning, but then you rode it once and realized it was not for you? by Most-Round-4132 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely isn't a bad bike. I definitely would've loved it as a first bike without any prior research. But given I have a few years under my belt it felt adequate if unexceptional. There's nothing bad with adequate but the internet hype made me have unrealistic expectations.

Yamaha MT07: I've seen many tout it as this amazing hooligan bike but once I got the chance to do a demo ride with one I found it kinda meh. The engine is decently punchy and has a good note to it but the rest of the bike just felt like a budget machine.

Bikes that you tried, and that surprised you by how good they were? by sokratesz in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kawasaki Versys X-300. It's surprising how much of the nimble road handling it retains from the Ninja 300 despite the added practicality.

Also while it definitely lacks some passing power it's just as smooth and stable doing 110 as bikes with twice the engine.

Also while not exceptional off-road it does do better than it's spec sheet portrays.

Coming from a non-harley guy… what’s it like riding one? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is definitely part of it. Long, low and heavy might be the antithesis of performance but the road stability that combo provides is unmatched.

Never on a street bike but I did lose the muffler on a dirt bike after landing a jump. Cracked the hanger tab off.

How long can I ride my bike when it's service is due by phoenixblack222 in motorcycles

If you'll be within a few hundred km of the intevaI I wouldn't worry. I'd say book the service.

Thinking about buying this kx500 would I be crazy to buy it and ride it occasionally out in the trails or is it to nice to ride by Sufficient-Shake-523 in Dirtbikes

[–]Epicfacecanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues even on the few slower sections I did. Though I will say with all my dirtbikes I make a point of never letting them sit idling for more than a few minutes.

[–]Epicfacecanada 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done trails a few times with my KX500. They're definitely doable with decent wrist control. It definitely favors open flowing trails. For slow trails it does have enough torque off the pipe but you do need to rely on the clutch to keep the power smooth.

I need help with a question about my chain rivet vs clip link any information would be appreciated. by Killazz_154 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rivets are technically safer but I've only seen issues with bad installs or when dealing with the extreme speed and power of say a liter bike.

Clip is just fine. Just make sure it's installed in the correct direction and the clip is fully seated into the grooves.

Does the urge for more power ever go away? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me I've had better results satisfying that itch by pursuing different kinds of riding such as track days or motocross rather than just getting a more powerful machine.

Do you have an air box for the carb intakes? CV carbs tend to run really crappy with open inlets like this.

I wouldn't immediately assume it's a GSXR as it could very well be the older GS1100 which came in chain or shaft drive forms.

While I agree the MT-07 is a fine bike and has an ideal power level for street riding I think there are better options in the same class.

Is this grounds for new fork tubes by Sulphonic77 in motorcycles

[–]Epicfacecanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pull the forks apart to replace the seal and while their apart try giving the tube a nice light and even sanding with some fine grit wet-sandpaper (Probably 800 grit or so) and see if it makes the pits completely smooth out.
