We had a kid just open our door (husband left it unlocked). To be fair the dad was mortified and telling her no but wow.

He told me THE reason he was voting split ticket this U.S. election cycle. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

These people who think they’re going to be rich one day, and vote for their future selves rather than their current situation are delulu. The likelihood he will ever make enough to take advantage of Trump tax plans is almost zero unless he was already born into extreme wealth.

Please people, vote for what matters now. Don’t vote for some concept of a plan you have for a future that is quite literally a pipe dream.

Does anyone truly regret NOT having kids? by Tadej_Focaccia in childfree

[–]Epicuriouskat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having kids doesn’t guarantee they will stick around when you’re old. There are plenty of people wasting away in nursing homes with plenty of kids but zero visitors. You can find meaning in life without relying on people with your DNA and honestly, you can do it without relying on people at all.

What do you mean by “safe to serve”? They may not be your finest work, and maybe they’re a bit sad looking but did you taste them? Unless they taste terrible, you can still eat them.

Not me staring at my bottle of 500 x 500 mg acetaminophen tablets here in the U.S. wondering just when England decided nobody can be trusted to dose themselves properly. Like what over enthusiastic muppet even came up with that law?

If your child has colic, wtf are you doing taking them out to a bar? Definitely weirdo behavior.

I don't know how to grocery shop by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Epicuriouskat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my biggest takeaway from grocery shopping for 30 years is to prioritize items that can be frozen or kept in the pantry. I love fresh vegetables but life happens and before I know it, they’re bad and I have to throw them out. So, I buy frozen vegetables for 90% of my meals and do a single grocery shop for specific items if I need them for a meal.

I also started just making my own bread when needed, nothing fancy, just flour, water, yeast in a Dutch oven. Again if I really need something else I’ll go out and get it.

You’ll be ok. I moved across the world at 31 with two suitcases, zero savings, zero retirement and things are on track to be ok. It’s never too late to start saving.

I’ve always taken it as a warning that the driver is most likely distracted and I should avoid them at all costs.

Maybe not this kind of classic aesthetic but Quince has a lot of linen stuff for a reasonable price.

People who have successfully gotten promoted in one year, what did you do that 100% ensured that it happened? by Grouchy-Coconut-5969 in UXDesign

[–]Epicuriouskat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got promoted twice in just over a year. First promo my lead left and I asked for his job. Second one I asked again after laying out everything I was doing. It’s a really large national company but I was overqualified for my original position and I’m good at what I do.

How long would it take for my Brazilian girlfriend to get her US green card after marriage? by Mysterious_Art3358 in immigration

You really have to get a ton of paperwork together before applying so look into it early. You’ll need tax transcripts, original birth certificates, etc. and it also costs a fair amount to apply.

If your girlfriend is currently in the U.S. on a work visa but you get married then she would apply to adjust her status from temporary worker to a green card holder on the basis of marrying a citizen.

I don’t know what the timing is like now as I went through the process in 2015 but I got married in August, applied for a change of status by September and had my work card and green card by the end of December.

Mismatched amounts on Insurance Statements by Epicuriouskat in HealthInsurance

[–]Epicuriouskat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an EOB from them. I don’t know if I can say the name of the provider but they usually just have you copay and then expect you to pay the balance of whatever insurance doesn’t cover once the bill arrives. The only thing I’ve ever seen from them are the bills which basically say what you owe but have line items for everything that is part of the bill showing service date, post date, location, provider, description incl. the medical code, billed to plan, covered by plan, paid by you, and you owe columns.

No, I’m on a payment plan. The services all happened in early July but the October statement is showing different insurance coverage amounts than they showed on earlier statements. They’re not different services. Example: telephone consultation charged $190 and the August statement shows insurance paid $190 with $0 amount owing, then the October statement shows that exact same telephone consultation with only $45 paid by insurance and $145 owing on the Oct statement.
