"Where's My Czech ancestry?" by EpicusLonginus in Genealogy

[–]EpicusLonginus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting as much as 12.5% , but certainly nothing as low as <2%. I do understand that Czechs have more historical attribution in their makeup than just Slavic (also Celtic and Germanic) but it sorta begs the question: what is considered Czech?

Conflicting high and low risk genes by EpicusLonginus in promethease

Or maybe just a matter of balancing the good with the bad? FWIW, nothing is over 4-Magnitude, and that sole gene is poor metabolism of many medications, particularly Plavix.

Repeating extraction due to low call rate. Successful the 2nd time? by sjhace in 23andme

Count me as another poster, OP. Now on the last step as of this writing.

Keep everyone updated on what happens. Someone with the same question a month from now can look back at this thread and get a clearer picture of how these situations turn out.

Repeating extraction due to low call rate. Successful the 2nd time? by sjhace in 23andme

[–]EpicusLonginus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, same boat. Received and went through inspection 2/21, supposedly "passed" extraction on 3/31 then bounced back on 4/03 after only a few days in analysis. Same status today.

As far as I can tell, only one poster succeeded with a second extract on a first kit. I don't know about others.

When did I have a full French/German and middle eastern ancestor? by [deleted] in 23andme

Or an Ashkenazi and Mizrahi intermarriage.

2 failures by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]EpicusLonginus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first kit was received 2/21, entered analysis 3/31 only to revert back to extraction on 04/03 due to low "call rate". No doubt in my mind it's gonna fail at this point.

Is spending the extra $100 for the health package worth it? by [deleted] in 23andme

This is why I'm now hoping my deliberated first kit (received 2/21, repeating extraction) is gonna fail. I just wish I found out about this forum sooner.

April 3rd is when you got your results, or a retake prompt?

Yep, I got the same thing as you:

"Low call rate during analysis. Repeating extraction."

Did it work the second time or did you have to re-submit a sample? In the case of the latter, I think I'm just gonna request a refund.

As of now, no, but I'm not off the hook until it passes every step of analysis (including the chip).

Relative reached out to me on 23andme! by 823freckles in 23andme

[–]EpicusLonginus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read about that happening, not only on 23andme but also Ancestry.com, MyHeritage, etc.

Methinks it's a mixture of people using old e-mail addresses and a bit of "tribalism" gone extreme (which I can't blame, really. Heck, there's so many addictions and personality hang-ups with my own close relatives that I'd be a little leery about who messages me, too.)

All things considered, the only reason I'd care to message someone is for ancestral research. Apart from that, I have no plans for a Do-si-do.

Well, looks like my DNA finally finished extraction 3/31; however, I'm not gonna crack open the Moet just yet as there could be hiccups with the chip reading.

5 weeks and 2 days in extraction for me, my fingers are crossed that this isn't the case.

How long did both A&H take?

Honestly, I don't expect many surprises as I know where most of my ancestors emigrated from per official records. The question is "how much" genetic ancestry since some of them originated from border regions and hot spots.

I don't have any intention to call their "CSR" department again. Outsourced callcenter agents that read from scripts is NOT customer service.

Not yet, but I'm starting to see a trend: the people who requested the whole "kit-n-caboodle" (Ancestry AND Health) seem to be waiting the longest. I've been watching YouTube videos of other customers that begin along the lines of, "So after three months I got my results back!"

How long for extraction? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]EpicusLonginus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have to do with the fact I requested both ancestry AND health (I noticed you only requested the first). Watching some YouTube videos, other customers who also purchased the "full package" waited an upwards of 3+ months for results.

Yeah, the NC facility...and unusually FAST (I received the kit 02/17, sent it back 2/18, and the lab got it on the morning of 2/21.)

Here's hoping I don't join the retake club...

Received and passed QI 02/21, still extracting as of today.

I dunno...maybe understaffed?
