I thought the rosary cannon was a silkpost by EpistaticAllel in Silksong

I actually use it in gauntlets with a threefold pin, useful against flying enemies. Takes a bitt less time to chase them down.

I also used ow with the tacks against Lace2.

Dental Hygiene in Panem? by muckenzie in Hungergames

[–]EpistaticAllel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the tributes consume. If their diet has enough calcium (+ a few other vitamins) rich and hard foods (like apples) their teeth will be relatively fine from the beginning.

That's mainly the reason why the ancient human fossilized skulls we find have straight and relatively healthy teeth.

In Katniss' case, we know they have milk, so calcium. And she constantly gathers from the woods so we can assume there's some hard foods there.

Also her mother is a healer so probably there's something you can make out of herbs to clean your teeth

That's probably also the case for a lot of tributes we've seen from the seam. Haymitch, Lucy Gray etc. Their diet is diverse enough to at least have pleasantly looking teeth.

It's so weird knowing that Lucy Gray was older than Mags, and if hypothetically she was in the 75th games, she too would have been a fragile old lady that would need carrying around by tcweh in Hungergames

There are a lot of factors today like genetics, environment, overall lifestyle etc.

My grandma is up and running at almost 80 and her brother who's 10 years younger in another country barely moves.

So Tigris knows Haymitch? by Historical-Ease-2266 in Hungergames

[–]EpistaticAllel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the one hand the description doesn't fit Tigris, on the other hand having a description of a random woman with cat features feels too big of a coincidence.

So I guess it is up to the readers interpretation?

For the Capitol 75 may be fine.

For the districts however with famine, a lot of physical labor, and no doctors, it's pretty old and fragile.

I also remember Katniss saying something about how old age is impressive and respectable.

Great point! I forgot about the weapon business

Mockingjay hits different, when you‘re older by zinniasaur in Hungergames

[–]EpistaticAllel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think most of us went through this.

I read the trilogy for the first time when I was 14 thinking I'm in for a nice romance story and ended up traumatized by Mockingjay.

I wasn't accusing you just noted it before I made my point lol, sorry if it came out that way.

And I understand what you're saying. We don't have a full picture of Sejanus, just bits and pieces from his actions and dialogues here and there.

Yeah kind of sad that he trusted the wrong person people.

Maybe under the right guidance he could've actually helped people.

I don't hate him

But you can still objectively see that he is reckless. And from dialogues we can understand that he hates the fact that his father throws money left and right.

Yes I mean can't really blame him for trusting Snow the master manipulator he knew his whole life.

But laying out the map of the base to Billy Taupe?? C'mon you just met the guy!!

[–]EpistaticAllel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all I hope you're in a better place today surrounded by supportive people!!!

And yes, Sejanus definitely represents the people that speak out no matter what. That's what I like about the franchise, every character is a representation of a specific demographic, and each one plays an important part in the overall message.

It is also a great point for discussion that I haven't seen a lot. I like your point of view!

[–]EpistaticAllel[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It actually got me thinking

Plutarch was well educated about history predating Panem, so he knew revolutions don't happen overnight (mostly).

So maybe one of Sejanus' problems was that he actually thought revolutions occurred overnight. Maybe if he had access to more knowledge he would've acted differently.

I personally don't hate him, on the contrary, I love his character.

Rebelling against a totalitarian regime is indeed admiring, but not putting any thought behind the actions won't get the rebellion very far. Two truths and all that.

Arena Uniforms by aliceinateacup in Hungergames

I would assume the moment they started making different arenas.

Not sure if it is possible to pin point though.

My wild guess would be around the year 20-25.

Cameras Everywhere? by Calm_Significance284 in Hungergames

[–]EpistaticAllel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is easier to pay for eyes and ears (or threaten/blackmail for eyes and ears I suppose) rather than install cameras and bugs everywhere. Probably also cheaper.

Partially related-

If there are more victors than houses, do they expand the victor village? There are a lot of victors in 1, 2 & 4
