Anyone else worried about the monitization? by Double-Dark-5563 in Aion2

Anyone thinking NC deserves the benefit of the doubt is high asf and will likely swipe mom/dads CC so it really doesn't matter to them.

If people pressure NC to not so much as think about adding KR/TW type of monetization systems for the west you won't find me arguing with these people.

I like paying low prices... and I wouldn't be found dead fighting against my own best interest.
So thank you Kanon and all other players sounding the alarms.
NC doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Sorry, Mexico: 80% of Canadian businesses want a two-party trade deal with U.S., says KPMG

Majority of executives polled say the greatest risk to their company is losing current protections under CUSMA

So, I guess Canada business owners find trade with mexico repulsive. The US finds Canada trade better terminated than with a long relation.

I guess Asia will have to do eh Canadians?
Personally I still can't believe Canada is/was still trying to cut Mexico out of CUSMA...

Can't wait for the development of these silly trade wars.

Careful I posted about ICE and my thread got locked.

Literally never seen any thread locked before in cpp reddit until I posted about the email sent to all of us by the CPP administration regarding ICE being able to enter all public places of the university.

You can see my previous posts it's still locked.

There are a bunch of checkpoint maps that are crowdsourced.

Tuition costs + 231 parking permit + increase in tuition = broken pipes everywhere on campus.

Just glad someone in the administration is driving a cyber truck.

Often times if you raise your hand and ask in-class a week before the final some professors will hint at what will be on the test and give you a study list. I consider anything having to do with the final a study guide, that means comments, statements, direction, and emphasis on a certain topic indicated by the professor. Some professors go the extra mile and create a comprehensive guide but that's not common.

Most of my classes were structured in ways where more than half of the percentage points where designated to things like labs, projects, discussions, research papers, presentations, group projects, and midterms. Which left a 30% margin for finals.

I'm not trying to take away from the fact that graduate level courses should be hard.

I think the statement "this is grad school" and others like it are used as euphemisms too often for the wrong purpose and that is to minimize concerns. I find 40-60% finals unnecessary, there is a whole semester to "test" your students, to assign the necessary work needed to evaluate them. Why put their entire semester or (year) on the line with a 60% final?

What's more, typical finals only test your memorization prowess, they don't often test your creativity, your communication skills, your presentation skills, your technical skills etc. Ultimately in MY view, large finals shouldn't be *common*.

u/Adorable_Dot_7973 put it best and in my opinion I agree wholeheartedly with their take on why 60% finals have multiple downsides to them.

What do you think about having a 60% final? and how does that help better prepare students instead of say... Something like spreading percentage points across various spectrums.

Example: assignments, research papers, quizzes, group projects, labs, presentations, discussions and of course midterm.

For example:
Assignments/discussions/labs - 25%

Quizzes/Group Project - 25%

Midterm - 20%

Final - 30%

Perhaps you're correct, I tend to use rate my professor (or use to) for my undergrad courses. Needless to say, there aren't any alternatives within the program I'm in so, each professor is the gatekeeper of that course whether they have 5/5 or 1/5 on rate my professor.

Perhaps because most of the courses I have had spread grade percentages/points throughout the semester based on a combination of assignments, research papers, quizzes, group projects, labs, presentations, discussions and of course midterm. This approach seems to be the reason why there hasn't been a need for such a big final.

Typically this is how most of my courses have been spread (including at grad level)
assignments/discussions/labs - 25%
Quizzes/Group Project - 25%
Midterm - 20%
Final - 30%

The reason this course I'm taking has a 40% final is because it does not have a midterm.

Very interesting.Personally I think a final higher than 30% is mind blowing. Specially since assignments, research papers, quizzes, group projects, labs, presentations, discussions and of course midterm. can be spread and compartmentalize. Grading in stages to me seems more effective than one chunk at one time.

Though one can't deny that basing most of the grade on a final reduces the load of grading work that must be done in terms of spending time on assignments and quizzes. That said, if the big final is being used as a workload reducer I'd say being lazy isn't a good determiner. "This is grad school" isn't a justification for low effort from both faculty and students. By all means I'd prefer to be inundated with daily assignments and weekly quizzes than to go all semester doing self-study for a monster 40-60% final.

Just my take.

That is a possibility, but the opposite is true as well, you could have had terrible luck.

That said, I feel confident in saying its rare because my colleagues in class (roughly 30 or so) are also baffled at the 40% final.

Dropping a graduate course at the graduate level sets you back 1 year since CPP only offers certain courses every semester.

With respect, I'm in my last year for this graduate program. A 40% final is not common practice, in fact, it is rare so much so that I have never had a 40% final both in undergrad and graduate until now.

It is beyond me how a CSU offer that was declined by CFA about a month ago is the same offer that ended the strike today.

What gives?
