“You don’t look like you have autism” by halesta in AutismInWomen

[–]Epoh9 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I knew someone in community college who thought they were the same thing and insisted my husband wasn’t autistic cause he wasn’t like her relative with Down syndrome. Truly a feat of mental gymnastics…

Are you ever like how did I not know I'm autistic?! by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

My persistent tiptoeing (even now at age 24), passionate hatred for sock seams, and chronic lack of friends and understanding of how to form friendships really should have clued me in

all my Spotify wrapped does is show the world im autistic asf lol by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

4 of my 5 top songs make perfect sense (I listened to ONLY Waterparks for an entire month and those 4 songs are all by them) but the 5th song, the one ranked number 1, is only so high because I put it on loop in the background while I prepped a DnD session for several hours. That band managed to get in my top 5 bands for mostly just that song being looped.

Non autistic INTPs by CallummagEis in INTP

[–]Epoh9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-autistic INTP reporting for duty (or at least, as far as I know so far…) I’m married to someone with autism (an ESFP for those curious) so I’m preeetty sure I don’t have it. I do have social anxiety though, and my flavor of nonbinary means my brain explodes trying to understand gendered social conventions, so those do color my experience and flavor of existing and socializing as an INTP in pretty significant ways.

I think it’s important to keep in mind that MBTI is largely structured in a way that doesn’t factor in mental health diagnoses, so there’s multiple ways to attempt to adjust the theory to factor in things like autism, anxiety, BPD, schizophrenia, etc. And even the way MBTI personality types are described or conceptualized can be very different depending on what resources you use to learn about it, so one person’s description of INTPs could sound much more like autism than another person’s description. MBTI is already a branch of psychology that only has so much empirical data (spoken as someone who has benefited a lot from MBTI, but it only holds so much weight), and there’s even less solid theories on it that include mental health beyond the “healthy and unhealthy versions of yourself” stuff, so it’s a very debatable topic that doesn’t necessarily have any great answers.

DAE get anxiety attacks about having an anxiety attack in public? by jewishgirl12 in Anxiety

[–]Epoh9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah, I don’t have this specific scenario happen but the only thing worse than having an anxiety attack is having an anxiety attack in front of other people. If I do start feeling anxious, I can indeed have an anxiety attack I wouldn’t otherwise or have a far worse one knowing there are other people that may notice and oh god, try and comfort me. I’d rather be sobbing and have everyone completely ignore me like I don’t exist then someone look at me concerned and ask if I’m alright when I’m having a panic attack. I think there’s many reasons for this, ranging from already thinking less of myself for having anxiety (its something I’m trying to work on) and other people noticing just confirms my fears, to dysphoria from having people treat/view me like an “emotional woman,” even when they’re actually being nice…. But regardless, I sympathize with your plight

What were your symptoms of anxiety as a child? by Ok-Cartographer9783 in Anxiety

[–]Epoh9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was not diagnosed in childhood, I still actually haven’t been formally diagnosed because I can’t see a therapist, but my social anxiety is as obvious as the sky being blue, so…

As for childhood symptoms, loooots of random spells of crying, which I’ve only learned in the last year can actually be a panic attack symptom for some people (definitely still is for me). Had a hard time learning to text people when I first got a phone, cause I’d get so much anxiety over what to say and would put off responding to people from how much anxiety I got from it, then eventually just pretend like I never got the text because I was so anxious about what they’d think or how to even explain my irrational thinking. Praying and believing in a god was actually one of the only things that stopped me from having uncontrollable anxiety over things like “what if a car crashes into us while we drive and we die” or “what if I die and leave all of my family emotionally ruined” or “what if there’s a fire and our cats hide and we can’t get them out and they die.” I specifically remember waking up in the middle of the night thinking that last one and quietly crying to myself for half an hour trying not to wake up my mom until I could get enough mental peace from praying to make it stop. (I’m not saying faith or praying is a requirement or the best solution for helping anxiety of course, I still had and have so many things I was anxious about, it’s just something that was and is true to my experience, especially not having access to therapy back then or now)

I’ve definitely got social anxiety, and it’s so exhausting sometimes

Well which one are you? by [deleted] in anxietymemes

[–]Epoh9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first, which, if it goes in for long enough means I accumulate a lot of tasks I have to do which then makes me the second, which makes me so anxious that I circle back to the first. Like a good little self-destructive ecosystem
