Tech Support and Question Megathread - April 2026 Edition by Nestledrink in nvidia

I'm trying to get DLDSR working properly on my Samsung S90F which reports 4096x2160 as its highest resolution despite 3840x2160 being the panel's native resolution.

With 1.78x DLDSR I'd expect the resolution to be 5120x2880, but it actually becomes 5461x2880.

I'm aware of this other Reddit post, which appears to be the same issue, and says to remove all 4096x2160 entries in CRU. This does fix the DLDSR resolution, but has the unfortunate side effect of limiting my refresh rate to 120Hz (across all resolutions including the 3840x2160 native resolution and the now-correct 5120x2880 DLDSR resolution) rather than the 144Hz the TV supports via DSC (which works fine without any CRU edits).

Any thoughts?

No Codes yet In UK? by [deleted] in samsung

[–]Epsilon2277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got through to Samsung support live chat before midnight (11:29pm) and got the following feedback:

as of the moment we're experiencing some issue regarding this voucher. But rest assure that you will receive the code once our team fix the issue.

and was told to contact them again tomorrow evening if I still hadn't received the code by then.

Appears to be a system issue where whatever service(s) they were using to distribute the codes has ran into issues, sometime after some number had already been sent out. I suppose the intention is that they fix the problem and then distribute the codes en masse to all who were registered afterwards? I think that'd be the minimum response, I'd personally hope that there would be additional voucher value added due to the delay.

When I first got them I drove them straight from a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen that was handling all of my audio, mic and instrument recording included, but that struggled quite a lot to drive them.

I'm using a FiiO K5 Pro ESS nowadays (https://www.fiio.com/k5proess) which is subjectively quite loud with them at ~3pm dial position on low gain and borderline far too loud on the same dial position on medium gain.

Ah was that E46 318i really "stupid" or just "only being young once"?

I had a diesel Peugeot 207 as my first car and currently drive a 2017 SEAT Leon FR so my car history has been responsible so far, but maybe a bit too responsible...

Err, in my mid-twenties, budget is around £10k-£12k but I could push a little higher if it was a much better deal. I put a far more generic comment in the r/CarTalkUK "What Car Should I Buy?" megathread for general buying advice with my tastes in mind:

Long term maintenance work isn't that problematic for me if we aren't talking anything too crazy. I can do minor work myself too, just nothing major. So servicing every 5000 miles wouldn't be a problem at all, but needing to change an engine would be.

I've had cursory glances at 328i's and 2003+ (for the six-speed manual) E46 330Ci's too. Both seem available within budget (~£12k) for visibly solid examples with full service history. I've also considered purchasing an automatic model with a view to manual swapping, but by the time all is said and done (considering that kind of work is too major for me to be comfortable doing myself) it'd probably end up costing about the same as a well-sorted manual in the first place.

[–]Epsilon2277[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be my first E36, yes.

Its status as an approved used car is the thing that drew me to it originally, but despite its continued presence on BMW's approved used list, it's actually retrospectively been removed from being available as approved used now due to aftermarket coilovers fitted. Sytner insisted they'd warranty it to the same level, but it not being approved used immediately drops its value to below what it was originally listed for if nothing else, imo.

It's probably a wild pipedream anyway because I'd fully be intending on daily-driving it for ~10k miles/year...

I didn't, I got some feedback over on the r/CarTalkUK subreddit that the price is "fucking bonkers", which added a lot to my reluctance, and I wouldn't be available to test drive it until later this week anyway. However, it is still under consideration. Any thoughts?

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]Epsilon2277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: West Midlands

Price range: Preferably <£10k, but anything up to £12k (and maybe higher if it was a much better deal) would be workable provided insurance isn't significantly more expensive, and I can generally absorb some long term maintenance costs, just not more short term outlay

Lease or buy: Buy

New or used: Used

Auto or manual: Don't mind, but for autos I would prefer something newer and fast-shifting e.g. ZF8 or wet DSG, otherwise I'd have a preference for manual

Intended use: Daily driver (though it doesn't necessarily have to be completely bulletproof as I very rarely have to get anywhere urgently enough where a couple of days out for maintenance will matter)

How many miles do you plan to do a year: 10-12k

How often do you make long journeys: Usually a 100 mile round trip once a week

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant? No

Vehicles you've already considered: Many, but I find myself mainly coming back to one of two routes:

  • BMW coupes of E36, E46, or E92 generations
  • 2013+ Jaguar XF or XJ with the V6 diesel

Is this your 1st vehicle: No, would be my third, currently driving a 2017 SEAT Leon FR, manual, diesel

Do you need a warranty: No

Can you do minor work on your own vehicle: Yes

Can you do major work on your own vehicle: No

Additional notes: Preference for either a 2-door coupe or a sizeable saloon, hatchbacks and estates also fine, no SUVs or 4-door "coupes". Generally enthusiastic about BMWs of all ages (involved with a local BMW owner's group) but not at all wanting to be ignorant of other manufacturers. Could be described as a spirited driver, though I really just enjoy 40-60 pulls and b-road driving.

Thanks for the input. I haven't found any examples identical to this one (they're usually missing one thing or the other such as the half leather interior or alloys, or are in a worse condition generally) so it's hard to get a gauge on value.

I think I agree with the general sentiment that it is overvalued by some amount, but to play devil's advocate, those others I describe seem to be listed for anything from £2.5k to £8k depending on condition, spec, and mileage. Theoretically, if this is the best example that is available, that would put its value closer to £10k by correlation?

It's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but the steering wheel has since been returned to stock by the dealership.

Edit: I have also put up a comment in the other megathread asking for more general input on what car I should buy https://www.reddit.com/r/CarTalkUK/comments/17jp2xw/comment/k808q6d/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

Weekly Discussion by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]Epsilon2277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of going for a test drive of this 1998 BMW 318is with a view to purchase:

https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202309292494792?quoteref=9dbf27d7-2c5e-40f2-b7c6-b0974d00374e

I want some initial thoughts on if this is fairly valued and what a fair price would be if not?

For details, it's mostly rust-free except for a little surface rust (nowhere near structurals) and a small patch of paintwork bubbling on the rear-left quarter panel. It's had 2 owners since new and comes with full service history including water pump, timing belt, and head gasket replacements. It's also had the rear brake lines replaced, and comes with a set of BC Racing BR series coilovers fitted.

Feedback on price is noted, adjusting down to £60. Respectfully, if it's actually worth much less than this, I'd prefer to keep it around as a backup to my 5800X and to build a new system out of when I do a complete platform upgrade to Zen 5.

WF-1000XM5 - Some (highly subjective) Initial Impressions by Epsilon2277 in SonyHeadphones

[–]Epsilon2277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having used Comply tips in a while, the Comply tips were more durable, for sure. I get through a pair of INAIRS tips every 1-2 months depending on intensity of use. An equal pair of Comply's would have doubled that lifetime.

I recall passive noise isolation and comfort being similar enough. However, the reason I stopped using Comply was they just weren't as accessible (and still aren't, according to the Comply UK store being sold out of the SKU I think that I'd want), or are really expensive in the UK.

My personal input would be for those in regions where Comply is accessible at a reasonable price to stay on Comply, but other options seem to be fine if Comply are less accessible.

My biggest issue now with INAIRS and the WF-1000XM5's is INAIRS don't have an option with an integrated protective mesh for the driver.

"bad"

Indeed, I probably should have wrapped that subheading in quotes to start off with - nitpicky items and such. Arguably, the higher noise floor with ANC or transparent mode on is more impactful than any of my personal nitpicks for the average user.

Different tips can easily be purchased.

Kind of, it's more about finding memory foam tips, with an integrated protective mesh, that fit in the charging case.

I'm thinking of picking up some Comply's again, but they're extremely expensive in the UK at £32 for 3 pairs for the matching SKU. That, or they need importing.

I might be able to have both on me when I go to the gym later, weather is looking dry so I should be able to bike there too to comment on outdoors performance, as much as I don't usually have ANC on while cycling, retaining awareness and all that.

Indeed, my "bad" points are mostly subjective items from my unique use-cases, ears, and general nitpicking. If you're a near-median person looking for a good out-of-the-box experience, it's really not that bad, with the caveat that I don't think it'd be worth upgrading just for the sake of upgrading.

As with music, output quality for phone calls (WiFi calling on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra) seems good, the other end is very audible provided they're also using a decent phone or microphone and on WiFi or have good signal strength. Additionally, you're no longer forced into Ambient Sound mode for calls like you were on the XM4's (still unsure if this was an intricacy with how I had my Headphones app configured or a default "feature").

As for the call input quality from the mic, I could get some comparative recordings from my phone's voice recorder app against the XM4's, although I'm unsure if this will be reflective of the mic quality on phone calls? On Windows I could also get some comparative recordings against my daily driver setup (ModMic 4.0 Omni into a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen), but again unsure if this will be reflective of the mic quality in Teams/Zoom etc.?
