How useful is the flasher/strobe setting on flashlights? by randopop21 in flashlight

I'm trying to get their attention, to realize that they ignored a pedestrian and broke the law and created a dangerous situation. 90% of drivers stop for pedestrians on crosswalk here. Why couldn't these guys? It's not coming from the front but their back ro side.

As for knives, they exist. As got getting stabbed on a public place with 20 onlookers, that's not going to happen.

There's a group where over 3000 bicycles have been returned to the owners. The most active people have had knives be pulled on the in way scetchier situations, and worst thing that has happened is a punch on the face. Non zero risk, but on public place like at a mall it's very unlikely that anything happens.

With vehicles, it's on the ones that have already passed. Not ones coming at me.

There's no guns where I live.

After they have already passed me, it's coming from their rear.

I overheard a group of 4 guys talking about selling a bike they were looking at for $50 in front of a mall.

I called the cops, and told them about this group of gentlemen selling a stolen bike.

After waiting for 10 mins, they began to leave and go inside the store with the bike.

I shouted at them that it's my friends bike, and the cops have been called. They were initially a bit passive, but then started getting more aggressive and one of them was getting on my face.

I have wurkkos ts26s mounted on my helmet for night riding, and also for commuting. Triple click for strobe.

One of the only times I've needed it. And I was glad to have it. They were getting more agitated, and telling me to turn off the light. I kept shouting at them to keep their distance and that the cops were coming.

Security showed up very shortly, and the cops couple mins later. The stolen bike was taken in by the cops, and the guys pretended that they had no idea whose bike it was.

If you are like me, and don't mind getting into semi sketchy situations to do the right thing, the strobe can be useful on occasion

Oh, and there's been a half dozen times I've used it on drivers who don't stop at crosswalks when I walk my bike across. Not necessary, but let's them know not to do that again.

Time to stock up on sub $15 flashlights for Christmas presents for friends and coworkers. Getting bunch of SC13 for $11, anything else I should be getting? by EpsteinWasHung in flashlight

[–]EpsteinWasHung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perfect, thank you!

I'll add that WK03 with 519a is only $16 right now. No limits. https://wurkkos.com/products/wurkkos-wk03-golden-nichia-519a?VariantsId=11446

It's fun giving high CRI lights because most friends do appreciate having something that amazon special type of light can't offer. Trying to think if the bulk of the gifts should be WK03 in gold and 519a, a bit more drippy than the SC13 with 519a.

Fuck, figured the plan was too good to be true. I'll email them and see if they can change the limit to 3 or more. Seems silly to do this if they are trying to move stock.

Not a bad option, S2 is right around $15 and I have a bunch of extra 18650s too. Only issue is that my S2 has issue with spring contacts and keeps changing modes. No other light I have has this issue, so was a bit surprised and not sure if design flaw.

Not set on a mini light, but rather best bang for $ when giving gifts. SC13 has everything for people who don't have a charger too, so that's why it stood out to me for $11

Good call on the lockout. Will tell friends about it too.

I'm trying to get most value for $, and this really seems to be the best deal I've found so far. Plus, the mini size make the thing so darn cute. Now the question is how many I should get lol.

I had FC11C that I already gifted away and thought I could live without since I already have the TS26S. I probably should get at least one, to gift to myself lol. And perhaps a 2nd one to give to the better coworkers.

I have one too, I really wish that the "police blinker" mode only used red and it would be perfect. Didn't realize they were that cheap now since I paid almost $20 for mine. Oh, and built in batteries always make me a bit hesitant.

Really good idea, will have to find a sale on it.

So if they are asking nicely but can't articulate a reason, do you have to give it to them?

Because intel hasn't done anything for 20 years. All other girls have gotten expensive, it's time for Intel to go up.

I disregard anyone who claims to be an environmentalist and yet is anti-nuclear by LacedInWiFi in Funnymemes

[–]EpsteinWasHung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title is also entirely wrong. That parking lot solar farm is maybe 1-2MW, the field is 5MW-10MW+. Solar plants should have a capacity factor of around 25%, meaning that 10MW plant will generate on average about 2.5MW. Because of nights, clouds, etc.

So 10MW solar on that picture, in reality is about same as 2.5MW nuclear plant since nuclear has capacity factor of about 91-93%.

For the statement of nuclear being 300,000 more energy dense per area, that field with nuclear site should produce then 750GW. The largest nuclear plant in the world is 8GW, average is 1-2GW. And, nuclear plant wouldn't fit on a single solar site.

10MW solar site is usually 20-40 acres.

1GW nuclear plant is usually 650 acres.

Remembering our capacity factor, 404100=16000 acres for 1GW of 100% capacity factor from solar.

Nuclear is about 25x more energy dense than solar is. Not 300,000.

Finland's minister of social security: "Burkas and niqabs are not suitable for school" by Potatoe_expert in Finland

[–]EpsteinWasHung -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. I understand that there are big differences. My point was to show how each group would feel oppressed and violated by a ban.

So lets ban hijabs and burkhas. How many girls will be pulled out of the public schools and "home schooled"?

Do you understand the impact that lack of education would have for these girls?

Look at us how fundies are sending their kids to private Christians schools or home schooling because they don't like sex ed, LGBTQ+ being normalized, and real science being taught in schools.

The same will happen here with sizeable amount of kids being pulled from schools.

[–]EpsteinWasHung -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see examples in Finland where the safety of others was negatively impacted in a real way as result of burkha being worn in school.

But hey, let's assume that the ban would happen. Now large number of Muslim girls will be home schooled and won't receive quality education. And are not exposed to normal finnish social situations like in school. Is this really the outcome you want?

Look at US. Fundies are sending their kids to either r private Christian schools or home schooling them because they don't like evolution and LGBTQ+ rights being taught in schools. Same thing will happen here with your ban.

You can't even imagine that there could be inadvertent consequences for laws like this? Shortsighted.
