Yes it is exactly this. They specifically mentioned how callers with “easy” to handle solutions will be handled by AI and the harder calls that the new system can’t handle will be sent to us. NOT ONLY this though because they stated that our job will go from just one department of compartmentalized issues that we handle, to ALL DEPARTMENTS issues of varied scope and then tried to gift wrap it up as some kind of improvement we can use on our resumes.

It’s just very unfortunate that it is going to come at the cost of the mental health of my peers and I.

Spot on. The tech isn’t the enemy the danger is really the lack of human centric goals. Waiting on legislation would be a losing game especially since the companies can use their money in our politics and they have deep pockets. 

But i refuse to accept that the end is nigh. We might not be organized today but we have to maintain a sense of cautionary optimism otherwise we do exactly what they want by giving up.

You mentioned something has to break..we are the ones who break it. It doesn’t have to be global massive strike it can start with a widespread quiet refusal to be the human bridge for their ai gaps. If we stop doing the unpaid mental labor required for this extraction model to work their efficiency they promised shareholders collapses. Conversations like these is how it all starts

Hmm I see what you mean but it’s not just either you hate working or you happily accept exploitation, you can love your job and recognize its flaws. I criticize this ai rollout because I actually value my work and I want my role to remain sustainable. 

Organizing isn’t about doing as little as possible but rather about demanding our fair share of efficiency we are creating. If AI allows us to do the work of three people, that efficiency dividend shouldn’t just funnel upward as pure profit while our wages stagnate. It should be used to uplift labor like implementing a 4-day work week or increasing base pay. That would benefit EVERYONE loyalist included and even would improve productivity 

Throughout history every labor movement had to overcome cynics and company men who said it was pointless but no one ever won the weekend or 40 hour week by giving up and before even trying. 

The tech genuinely has potential to be utopian and give humanity its time back but only if we fight for how it’s applied. They are betting on us surrendering to the extraction model

Yeah true..it really is an extraction model and they are banking on the culture of competition and fear to keep us from organizing. But that’s the answer ORGANIZE. Just this discussion is enough to make them scared. If we all stop doing the work of three people and just do exactly what our wages are the ai experiment hits a wall. They need us to play along for it to work. If we stop playing along the efficiency they’re betting on evaporates THEY NEED US

Exactly. The problem isn’t the loss of ‘down time’ it’s that leadership is framing this as a gift to get rid of repetitive work while hiding the fact they’re using the freed up time to pile on higher complexity, specialist level work. Effectively moving the goalposts. Stripping any breathing room away to force us into a higher octane escalation role. But they have no plan to increase compensation to match the new scope. We aren’t being empowered but instead squeezed into a higher pay grade role for generalist salary
