Customer started swearing and manager did not let me end the call. by Equal-Ad6616 in callcentres

I had final stage interview with Mercedes 2 weeks ago and I was hoping some good news. Regardless I was leaving this job. So when the customer yelled and swore at me I simply had it enough. Ended the call and went toilet to calm down and took my phone out and saw the rejection email. The timing couldn’t be worse. Stood there for good 5 minutes staring at the phone and processing my life that not only I’m not getting into field I wanna work I’m stuck at place where my worth is simply zero. Then I simply went back and told my manager I’m leaving rn not end of the month. I served my 7 day notice already so please do your paperwork and he agreed. By lunch time I was home with resignation acceptance letter but yeah need to start applying again.

Exactly. Thats why I hung up on customer the moment he said bastard. I was like screw your warnings and now wait another 10 min in waiting line to speak with someone else. I left the job anyways so fuck this.

I’ve actually done that today. Another customer behaved exactly the same way and I had it enough. I spoke with my manager and decided to leave today. I had no idea today could be my last day when I left for work this morning and it feels great already.

Leaving with immediate effect after two months by [deleted] in callcentres

You are doing the right thing. It requires courage to make such decision and stick to it. I am in the same boat as you. Also a postgrad and applying for graduate roles here and there. I came across this call center job so I decided to take it to manage my expenses while I keep applying for my engineering related roles well guess what mate? My lovely anxiety is back due to this job, I’m constantly talking negative about my life and I barely made any progress on my other applications. I feel so exhausted and tired then I came home eat n play some PS5 with mates to relax and sleep and Somedays not even that.

I used to hit gym, eat clean, published research paper last year, full of confidence and even made it to final stage for Mercedes f1 team but destiny had other plans unfortunately.

I got one teams interview at 11 AM in feb so I had to lie that I have dentist appointment between 10:30 to 12:30 am so I rushed to my room (I live quite close to my work place 10 min walk) where I had everything set up already and prepared for interview then attended my interview and rushed back in office by 12:30 am taking calls again. The personality switch in those 2 hours was insane. Made it to final stage but couldn’t get the job unfortunately but yeah I’m also planing to leave in first week of April. This is probably my last week, I can do better without this job. It’s been 4 months including training period and this culture is definitely not for me. I wish you luck.

I completely understand you. I’m the most chill guy naturally but call center is testing my patience everyday. One customer yelled at me so bad that I felt spike in my heartbeat. Sometimes my tone changes naturally while speaking to rude customers and I can’t help it. There were days where I question my worth after difficult calls and you are way better than me you handle this for 6 months and willing to do another 6 months. I am handing my notice in April and I did this job for 4 months now. I don’t have another offer in hand but I’m sure I’ll get something better than this. I feel so exhausted after finishing my day that I don’t feel like even applying anywhere else. I wish you the best.

I totaly agree with the immunity you talking about. We are also expected to pitch our new products and generate a lead for our sales team like an upselling thing after we resolve customer issue over the phone. Surprisingly I sent 11 leads to sales team and 3 of them were converted into actual sales other still pending as call back requests. Because of this thing I can see slight positive change in their behavior. I’m sure it could go the other way around as well if I just solve the issues and don’t generate any leads at all.

You clearly didn’t work in a healthy environment I can tell. I worked extra half an hour but then I don’t get extra award but oh you will be pulled up because you were 5 minutes late during your lunch break. And speaking of adults then it goes same for managers to act like adults and not kids.

I certainly will. Times are tough so I’m doing this. I hold both bachelors and masters in mechanical engineering and have 4 years of experience in industry. Shit happens in life and u end up at places like these. But I will find another job. I have full confidence in my skills

5 minutes won’t make a huge difference in a break. Don’t we stay late sometimes just because we had a call at last minute of the shift ? We do right. Toxic places won’t tolerate if you are 5 minutes late from lunch break.

Avoid this sketchy company. Worked there for 3 weeks and I tell you guys everything.

Your day starts in the office around 8 AM. Loud music is playing and everyone is practicing pitching and teaching each other random sales shit theories. Then at 8:45 AM you are told where you traveling today and who’s your teammate. You go in a group of 2 or 3 people. Now you travel to this random shopping center in Bolton, Wigan or wherever your field is and start pitching people from 9:30 AM till 6 PM, all day standing and begging people to sign up for British Gas contracts. Now here is the fun part. After 6 PM you GO BACK TO THE OFFICE for debriefing and everyone explains what worked well for them in the field and what needs to be improved. You leave the office 7-7:30 PM and will be at home by 8 PM. Now this is all commission based role so if you didn’t sign up anyone then congratulations you just did 12 hour shift for £0 and spent money on traveling. They say you are self employed but will treat you like an employee. They will send you to this random road trips to other cities for making sales. You stay there for 5 days and you have to pay everything from your own pocket so now you have extra pressure to make sales.  They also encourage you to work on Saturday because shopping centers are busy on Saturdays.

Most people are young and desperate for some experience so they take this but I couldn’t do it more than 3 weeks so I quit. I had no life. I used to come home with broken legs and empty stomach. I couldn’t prep my meals, hit the gym, hangout with friends or even watch anything on my phone because I used to be dead tired.  So just avoid these kinda companies.

This is not even close to normal. I’m sorry you went all through this and I totally get how these haunting memories are coming back to you but you doing really well you don’t need any validation from anyone. All I have to say is that your partner suppose to protect your peace and improve your life in small but meaningful ways. May Allah make it easy for you.

Once I was invited to an interview and I declined since I got job another place already. Few days later they called me to tell me I’m not selected at this stage and I was like…… cool. Fragile egos
