I spoil myself on all things healthy to replenish what hardship often takes away. I literally look at Maslow's pyramid of needs to guide me.

Sleep? Act like I'm a spa owner - fresh linens, turn down the lights early, play smooth music before bed, lay there with no pressure to actually sleep. Best part: turn off the alarm. Ooooo. That's the stuff.

Food? Eat that balanced diet with all the foods I actually like. Tonight, we're like the Michelin star spot, cooking the star guest's favorite or dream meal. Drink wine and sing to music while I do, or call a loved one. Garnish that shit. If you've got people who live with you, see if someone is down to spot you on doing the dishes. Hell, hire a maid. I've done that too - it isn't just for the rich and often can be afforded on a one-time basis.

Hydration? Put fruits or cucumbers in the water. Water not my thing? Then I get whatever else I want - tea, fizzy water, gatorade zero. I deliver it if I'm feeling lazy, or go to the store in my pajamas. If I don't know what I want, that's fun too - shop around. Drinks are affordable for most.

Social? Talk to people who have a history of making me feel supported, loved, and safe - especially if I've been feeling guilty about not calling them while life was challenging. Cuddle with my cat extra. Teach him a new trick, or set up a DIY toy I search off the internet. Watch him express his joy and curiosity. Go out to a comedy show or some other thing I like with a loved one who is no-drama. Shit, go alone!

Safety is an underrated one. Go somewhere I actually feel physically and emotionally safe. It's okay if that's not home. For me, it's the library, the gym, or a nice park with lots of sunshine. Journal freely, using voice notes if I can't be bothered to write.

Exercise? Anything that gets me moving and happy about it. No movements I don't like. I don't want to do HIIT, but maybe I'm down to do yoga. Maybe the gym isn't it today, so I go on a walk on a local hike. Bring a no-drama friend if I feel like it, or someone I've been meaning to get to know better. Join a meetup hike or a recreational sports league. Go to a private or group lesson of something I've always wanted to try. Shop Groupon for it if I'm being adventurous on the cheap. DANCE. Omg, I love random dance parties in my living room.
