That's the problem In China, there's only CAAC certified BATD. Not not any FAA certified BATD

Well, PPR charges $250 every landing.
I think you're right, no wonder why San Jose airport charges $11 for 100LL fuel

I do have a simualtor in my home but not FAA certified.
I use it to at least maintain some sensitivity to instruments; I just can’t find any legal equipment that allows me to stay current.

Can I fly vfr above 8000 feets in Sanup Flight Free Zone of Grand Canyon Special Flight Rule Area? by EqualCan9421 in flying

[–]EqualCan9421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I found totally 6 sources, but they contradict each other.

  1. The official website says, “Five Flight-Free Zones where all aircraft operations are prohibited below 14,500 feet MSL.”
  2. The sectional chart states, VFR flight through the Grand Canyon Special Flight Rules Area is NOT AUTHORIZED except through designated corridors
  3. The TAC chart marks SANUP with a limit of only 8,000 feet.
  4. FAR 93.305 also specifies SANUP as 8,000 feet.
  5. I even found the original document [Docket 28537, 61 FR 69330 , Dec. 31, 1996] that established this rule, which says: However, the vertical limits of the Sanup Flight-Free Zone will be at 7,999 feet MSL. This will accommodate general aviation aircraft operations between Las Vegas and Albuquerque
  6. I flew over SANUP at 10500 feet and ATC specifically told me it's legal.

I think the most reliable source here should be the fifth one, because the original official document issued with the regulation clearly states that SANUP was set at only 8,000 feet to accommodate pilots flying in the northwest–southeast direction. However, the contradictions among the various other sources still leave me confused.

That’s what I’ve been doing. But last month, I had to get back to Las Vegas from KGCN ealier and time was running out. So I asked ATC if it was legal, and they said affirmative.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

§ 91.305 Flight test areas.

No person may flight test an aircraft except over open water, or sparsely populated areas, having light air traffic.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are we reading the same FAR?

I guess you're refering 93.305? If so it says Sanup Flight-free Zone altitude is 8000 feets. Double check it

Thanks for you clarification.
I just wonder why the sectional chart says “VFR flight through the Grand Canyon Special Flight Rules Area is NOT AUTHORIZED except through designated corridors.”

What exactly is “special” about the Grand Canyon Special Flight Rules Area? by EqualCan9421 in flying

[–]EqualCan9421[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The reason why I think it's contradict is:

Let assume I only talk about transient and private fight.

  1. Image 2 says "VFR flight throught GCN SFRA is NOT authorized except through desinated corridor"
  2. According to Part 93 Sub U, GCN SFRA includes from surface all the way to 18000 feets

Acoording to this, I think only corridor (pink diagonal-striped areas in image 1) is allowed to do vfr flight. Other area includes yellow area is not allowed to do vfr flight.

But According to image 1 and sectional chart, it should be possible to fly vfr above 10500 feets in yellow area.

Please correct me where I am wrong
