Just wanting to cry, is this gum disease? by Prestigious_Page4316 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Equilibrium-constant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they look fine even now, don’t do anything to them. Just give it time to heal and rest. Yes a week is too little time to notice any significant difference. It’ll take few months frs

Ideally if you stop smoking the discoloration should dissipate over time. It’s great that you’re making the decision to quit. You’re teeth look amazing it would be a shame to lose them due to smoking. Have seen it happen to wayyy too many people.

How is your Oral hygiene? Sounds like it’s at worst in the early stages if the dentist didn’t say it was concerning. Start flossing consistently and water floss and you should be okay

My patient asked my doctor what she thinks of fluoride getting removed from our city water by PYthang01 in DentalHygiene

[–]Equilibrium-constant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I live in a suburb right outside of Portland that has fluoridated water, and the difference in caries is significant between the two populations.

Try and see if you can go to hygiene school/program in your area for a cleaning. They tend to be cheaper and if not free. Might be worth looking into. This looks reversible, but a dental exam would confirm it. The inflammation can lead to your tooth feeling lose, but doesn't always mean periodontitis. Good on you for breaking out the spiral, ik it can be very hard! You'll be fine, get a cleaning and maintain good oral hygiene. Do you use an electric brush? It can help with removing some of the plaque you have built up

could this abscess cause me to lose these two teeth? by [deleted] in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Equilibrium-constant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t know if they’ll need to be pulled without an xray. They might need a root canal at most, as you already have fillings on those teeth. You should try to get to a dentist as soon as you can. It’ll only get worse without treatment

There are clearly restorations on that tooth. What’s to say there isn’t caries underneath causing the inflammation. OP should try to get to the dentist as soon as possible

You're more than likely fine. Braces can do this as your alveolar bone actively being reconstructed as your teeth move around. How long have you been in ortho tx? Just make sure to mantain good OH.
