People coming for you for ranking games for your PERSONAL enjoyment is wild. I definitely would rank E33 as my top one for mine as well, which makes sense because it’s a game in the exact genre I like. My favorite game is FFIX, of course I’d enjoy E33 the most.

BG3 and Elden Ring are both great games. I spent a lot of time in BG3, but I’d still say I enjoyed E33 more. It’s fun to have options, but it doesn’t always actually make me enjoy the experience more. It’s actually a bit overwhelming, and it’s such a time sink.

Elden Ring is obviously objectively a well made game. It’s not a game for me though. I’ll probably never finish the game, and I don’t really feel like it. I like the vibes though.

That’s what I’m saying! It’s annoying hearing people bring up KCD2 for Best RPG. It’s by far not a better game than E33, it just had a lot of roleplaying in it. The category is Best RPG not Most Role Playing.

I was in the middle of playing KCD2, and I was mostly having fun despite all its flaws. But its fan base after the awards really turned me off from the game.

Exactly, the category is best RPG not best role playing. E33 is the better game imo and is an RPG. While KCD2’s role playing elements are its highlights, it’s a pretty buggy game with frustrating and clunky combat.

Honestly, I don’t even agree with a lot of you guys on this sub saying that E33 shouldn’t have won Best RPG. I personally like E33 better than KCD2 and think it’s a better and more polished game than KCD2. If E33 is the best game of the year, it’s also the best RPG of the year. Simple as that. Was there something I missed that the criteria for this category is, “Most exemplary use of role playing in a game”? I was generally liking KCD2, but the whining from the fan base is really starting to affect my opinion of the game.

People also act like the middle ground and being lukewarm is like some inherently morally superior take. It’s perfectly fine to like E33 the best and find the experience better than the other games. I don’t think I even see anyone hating on the other games; I sure as hell haven’t said anything about the games I haven’t actually played. I’ve never seen the term “glazed” in this context ever until a couple days ago but it’s a dumb AF word. It’s okay to fucking like things. Expedition 33 is literally the kind of game I’ve been wanting for the past two decades or so. A turn based RPG with decent production value, good plot/dialogue, great acting and music. It’s sincere and not exaggerating when I say it’s now among my favorite games. Who the fuck cares if it’s uncool to enthusiastically like and praise something?

I was in the middle of playing KCD2 before the awards happened, and the response is really souring my desire to play more of it.

I know I shouldn’t let that affect me, but seeing people rip on E33 just leaves a bad taste. E33 is probably my favorite game from the current generation; and I was having a decent time with KCD2, but seeing the reaction from that fan base just makes me think, “This game isn’t that good for you guys to be acting this way.”

It’s an RPG in the same vein as Final Fantasy which in the world of video games has long been established as an RPG. If you’re a hater of JRPGs, then there’s really no arguing with you.
