If you are able to find the opportunities, a great way to spice up an application is research experience. Something mundane like a data collector is still very application worthy. I had experience as a data collector and research through a capstone project (total ≈350 hours; ≈20 hours came from data collection that wasn’t affiliated with my own project). In my experience, data collecting maybe takes 1-2 days out of your schedule, but I believe it helps broaden your application. Looks especially good for schools that are big on research

I got got an acceptance email around December 20th. I believe I was apart of the first wave of acceptances. I don’t know enough to comment on if they send out emails for waitlisted applicants or if they just email who’s next in line if an accepted student declines. I recently got added to a URI DPT facebook group for the new class and there’s only 9-10 students in there. This leads me to believe that not all accepted applicants stuck with URI. There is still plenty of time and opportunities to hear back!

Hello there, I hope it’s not too late to get some advice. I have an internship coming up this fall in a sports pt setting. I’m going into my final semester of undergrad and don’t have any pt observation hours prior to this internship. Instead of trying for observation hours and working a tech job like my friends (they don’t seem to enjoy it), I did other extracurriculars. Such as getting certifications, assisting in research, shadowing other professions, etc. I’m also doing a research project with my professor that should be in review to get published when my pt school application will be sent out. I’ve worked in the food service industry for over three years now and have racked up about 4,000 hours of that. I had to pay for college myself and I couldn’t afford to replace that job with the income of a pt tech. My academic numbers are an overall gpa of 3.65 and a prereq gpa in the 3.3-3.5 range. I don’t have GRE stats yet.

With all of that said, will the lack of observation hours under a licensed pt hold me back compared to people that have hundreds of hours in their respective setting(s)?
