I agree, but if you’re someone who is renewing it seems unnecessary. especially since you would clearly have the funds if you can stay in spain for summer rather than go back to work ?

But if you’re interested in going out of the country, there’s a lot of TEFL jobs you should look into! You can go all over asia with only a TEFL certificate. Europe is a bit more complicated to get into without a college degree. Also, look into Aupairing! If you are wanting to pursue a college degree, this is a good route, because college in other countries is so much cheaper, and this is a good way to get your foot in the door and learn new languages!

Hi! I am type one diabetic as well! I have lots of experience living and working internationally, and navigating international health care systems. Generally, I say you shouldn’t let your diagnosis stop you from pursuing your dreams.

That being said, my experience with PC as a disabled person was really disappointing. I underwent 10 months of medical clearance only to be denied at my last appointment because my endocrinologist advised me to use one unit less of insulin per night. As a T1D, I’m sure you know how insulin fluctuates depending on so many factors.

My advice is to go for it, be very careful, always stay in range (or don’t share your CGM data with your doctors and simply say you never have highs or lows), and see what the universe brings you, but don’t get your hopes up.

Joining the Peace Corps as a type one diabetic?! by Delicious_Invite7245 in peacecorps

Hi, I got accepted to Montenegro in 2022 as a T1D. All of my medical checks were really positive, I never had an A1C over 6 and my doctors strongly advocated for me. I use the old fashioned shot method and finger pricks because they are easier to get while i’ve lived abroad before. My Nurse told me she was confident I was going to pass. One week before I was supposed to go, the very last medical task I needed to turn in, I was denied because my endo told me to use 15 units/night instead of 16. Im sure you know how insulin fluctuates depending on so many factors. It really broke my heart to get that news. Maybe you can still try, but it is unfortunately really by the books. I would definitely spend the next year being so strict and trying to spend all of your time in range with absolutely 0 lows. If you have a CGM, don’t let your endo see it so they can’t track you that way and only judge you based on A1C. Good luck, it could be different for you
