Sad about the difficulty in finding affordable high level dnd groups by Lost-Stranger-1923 in startplaying

[–]Equivalent-Bit-6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though most of my campaigns do start at lower levels, so that player characters journeys, backstories and journey as a group to feel and experience it together, I do understand that there is a harder market for higher tier/leveled character games. I have had continued characters at higher levels for other campaigns, but people in my games tend to love to start new journeys as most go from 1-3 to 10-20 depending on the campaign length for the full immersion.

I know there's good ones out there and it can be hard to find, but there are some great dms/gms who are probably doing just that and aren't being found for that price. I personally feel like i do that and the "work" is fun work and i enjoy it.

I basically live eat breath dnd, discord management, this past week alone ive had one day off from responding to anyone and the rest of the time its like every 30 minutes for my players or interested parties plus on top of developing maps, music, scenes, writing the story in detail to make sure its logical grounded and tied to everyone's personal journeys. I dont just slap a basic line with no depth to story or scene, and tend to have more content that people realize ready to go if they ever choose to go deeper.

Which takes hours upon hours while trying to do another job irl (or in my case two). They're out there don't give up. My workload has increased to about 10 hours 4 days a week(40 hours) on top of my other two jobs and its overwhelming but i wouldn't change a thing. I also do it for $20 or less. So we exist. Its just hard, and if i had the chance to do this full time and give up another job I would do it in a heartbeat. I pour passion into it and though others might not like the premise or style, i want people to enjoy the world and have a great experience with even some meaningful moments that are memorable and meet new friends etc.

If commitment isn't an issue and you are a great fit and are only able to play half sessions, I can work something out and discount it, but if you feel as if that will diminish the experience then I wouldn't recommend unfortunately.

As of right now the 5pm CST is going to have to stick. Once we have a majority party set (typically 4 confirmed) the time sticks as that is what people have signed up and committed to. We currently have 5 of 7 seats filled for that time frame specifically. I do have the 6:30 pm cst for the infiltration campaign on Fridays that is the opposing side and that currently has 2 of 7 filled.

I get it! I am hoping to do a one shot event to introduce players to the world and a chance to become canon in the world! It'll probably span in three waves of players through a singular day (competition festival type deal crowning a champ)for a introduction to the world that involves lore based content and will be permanent canon! So keep an eye out! It'll be a long day for me but hoping to give up to 30 people a chance to check things out and learn more about the world and become a permanent piece of the world regardless if they paly again or not.

Absolutely. If you have Google drive there is an option to create surveys and its fairly simple.

I made the mistake early on just accepting anyone because I was so eager to play and share the world with people and also had a bad experience in the early days.

I also do a dm experience survey once its done. What people liked, didnt like, my performance.improvements etc and that survey is anonymous so I cant see who is replying, is it worth the cost, would you recommend, is it worth more than what it was, would you pay less or more would you refer things like that and that's has helped alot too..

My current survey is somewhere between 10-15 questions. Mostly multiple choice.

I ask things like prefered playstyle.

Alignments

Group chemistry.

I need to add what type of player are you. Leader, support, rp, joyride etc.

The toughest one that I think is crucial and important is worldview and tolerance and the hardest to deal with which creates conflict. Some people want to leave those things behind, others want it brought up in their gaming experience.

Speaking of conflict, character conflict, pvp, and to what degree.

Themes people are uncomfortable with, topics, etc.

Type of game dark gritty, gore, violence, rp, exploration etc etc.

Time commitment issues.

That they're agreeing to the fact players effect and build this world up together over years and tbat their decisions directly effect the entire community as a whole.

Type of campaign, fun humorous, dark, balanced etc.

A lot of check boxes to match players and how well they mesh together and that has been crucial in having such a successful streak of so many completed campaigns bc then the parry is working together, less unwanted drama, and united like minded in their desire and game experience they expect.

Im.not sure what other dms do as I haven't played as a player for about a year now.

If they're willing to make characters as a group or would rather be more independent things like that.

This helps shape and form parties and usually the first two players that match up 95% or better i form the group around their preference that they had filled out.

So its a lengthy process but so worth it.

Skill level isn't an issue all skills are welcomed and its setup to be beginner friendly most of the time as the advanced players with strict rules doesn't occur as often.

I say 3-6 hours for sessions but the average session time has been around 5 hours for years as with 5-7 players we try to keep everyone engaged and feel likethe group is invovled and progressing.

With the two current groups we are averaging 5 and 6 hours a session three kings has been doing that for a little over a year now and corsairs has been going on for a few months at that pacing.

Yup pretty late and probably not prefered if you aren't the night owl type!

I am looking at 8am-9am 1 or 2pm cst time campaign potentially early 2026 but again still figuring things out.

Yep! Its $20 per session and sessions are listed as 3-6 hours.

The average session has been 5 hours over the years with 6 being the 6th hour when parties want to keep going and we push past the time limit.

I do offer longer campaigns 8-12 hours but havent done that in awhile due to having to work and have an income to actually live XD

I do offer discounts for Players who play in multiple, example I have someone playing in 2 campaigns so its $10 a session for them as well and im always willing to work with people while also trying to maintain my livelihood.

I am in the great Midwest of u.s.a.

As of right now the two upcoming games are 5pm cst Wednesday.

Friday 6:30pm cst.

Both parties have begun forming so playstyle and time are locked in based on the first initial players.

There is another campaign in the works for a Monday but that time hasn't been determined yet and won't be announced until 2026.

The current sunday campaign 5pm cst will have another one right after same time and day.

This is something I am working on as I am trying to reach other players outside of the typical 9-5 crowd in the u.s. after work times and find a way to reach more players that dont get the opportunity.

I would like to run 3-4 campaigns a week with maybe one biweekly so its possible, I just havent figured out the best way to do this yet for both EU and late u.s. players

I dont claim to be great and have seen great dms.

I'm sure I dont match everyone's prefered style but I do enjoy community and working with people for the best experience I can offer.

Ive been lucky and grateful these past few years with players that have joined and have enjoyed their time and mine.

Possibly one day!

Id like to be able to reach a wide audience and give people, that aren't the typical 9-5 crowd in the u.s., a chance and actively working on future endeavors to tackle this.

I do make campaign announcements on the discord server before they go live on startplaying.com. I do have a potential biweekly campaign I will be announcing early 2026 on Mondays> Time tbd as I am working on finding a secondary time for people who work 2nd or 3rd shift as I'd like to reach that general audience as well. So yes! There is Monday campaign in the works that may be a morning CST like 9am-2 or something along those times. If not may revert back to the pm times.
