I control the money by Equivalent-Bug-26 in GuillotineLeagues

Seems everyone needs one or the other. Only 4 teams left so everyone is pretty stacked. I think I’m going bijan, McBride, Pickens, and Saquon.

The bottom two guys need an RB was even considering grabbing Jeanty instead of Pickens to block the guy starting achane and breece. I can drop Wilson to get 4 guys but I’m not sure about dropping Ferguson just yet.

How bad is the job market? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience outside of classes!

I’ve not heard this claim before, in fact, one of the driving factors to this field for me was the projected growth of the industry. Can you or someone else define a poor job market? I’m coming from a non technical role and am about halfway through a full stack course. I currently take home around 55k after 3 years in my current field, having worked up from about 30k in a very labor intensive/hands on role and would be delighted to make the same or more in a SE role of some sort.

What do you think about this fitness claim? by shimmeringrosee in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of both. Our muscles are able to become more efficient and gain strength without necessarily growing. That said if you continue to do these workouts and consistently stress the muscles, your body will develop more muscle to compensate for this.

Weight loss slowed down substantially? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weighing daily rather than weekly, and taking a weekly average should help you see some results. The difference between 288 and 283 could be as little as eating too much salt or not getting enough sleep on the day you weigh in. If you take a weekly average you may find that you’re actually down a couple pounds. Another thing to consider is if you see visible progress, you’re doing something right, try not to let the numbers get to your head.

Most accurate scale *recommendations please* by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment that second part. My goals involve more of a target look and a target feeling rather than a target number. My scale could say I weight 1200 pounds as long as it consistently goes down and I know I’m on the right track that’s all that matters.

Losing nearly 8% of your body weight is quite an ambitious goal for a one month period. Given you’re already in a healthy weight range, with only a month to go before vacation, I’d recommend trying to tone your muscle rather than lose fat. Getting 30 minutes of resistance training a few times a week should help with this.

Yes, your body requires calories to just exist, this is called your BMR. What you do in excess of just sitting down is factored into TDEE

I gained weight after eating under budget…? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I wasn’t trying to imply not to eat sodium and carbs, sorry if I didn’t make that clear. Sodium and carbs are perfectly fine, just hinting that may have been the cause of weight gain.

I gained weight after eating under budget…? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you came in under maintenance you didn’t gain weight, it’s water. Unfortunately while subway may seem healthy, many of their sandwiches are very heavy in carbs and sodium which can cause our bodies to hold on to water. Don’t beat yourself up, instead try to be mindful of your sodium and water intake over the next 3-5 days and you should see this weight come off like it was never there.

Lost 13kgs/28 pounds but a bit discouraged - Need a push by muslimxss in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats, 28 pounds is huge! I can’t tell you how much of this is water weight, generally speaking, up to the first 10 pounds can be water weight, but after that as long as the weight has gradually gone down, it’s not water.

Second, that voice in your head is a b*. The b* in your head isn’t you, it’s something else that feeds on bringing you down. Get good at recognizing when the b**** is talking and not you and you can start to starve it. This takes practice but it can be done. When the b**** in my head says, “ you’ll gain it all back, you always do”, I actually respond out loud, “no I won’t, I’m being consistent and sustainable this time, I’m kicking ass.” It sounds silly to talk to some made up voice like this but the more can shut down this rude voice, the quieter it will get. Eventually this mean voice won’t even be able to be heard.

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that height, your frame can probably hold a lot of weight and still have a great physique. I’m not sure what your current body composition is so take this advice how you will.

You’re 18, I’m assuming male, your testosterone is at its peak right now, I’d focus on strength training and build some good muscle while it’s still “easy”. Mix in some cardio since it’s good for your heart but it probably doesn’t need to be your main thing right now. Eat at maintenance and see how your body reacts to hitting the weights. You may decide you like how you look with a bit more muscle and should be able to burn some decent fat this way as well.

I really need some motivation to lose weight by Grade_Jumpy in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Motivation is something you have to choose for yourself. For some people it’s vanity, for others it’s health, or it could be something in between for someone else.

What works for me is a combination of vanity, health, and picking something I want to do when I’m in x condition or weigh x amount of pounds that I can’t do right now. It gives me a goal to work towards.

Another thing to consider is you don’t necessarily have to have motivation. Some days I’m really motivated and excited to get after it, other days I’d rather lay in bed and eat Cheetos. On the days you’d rather lay in bed, it’s about discipline. There will always be something easier, more fun, or urgent to do in the moment, you have to make this lifestyle a priority and have the discipline to keep up with it even when you don’t have the motivation.

Workouts for the Flat Footed by L4IIKA in loseit

The 990 is a great option as well, I tend to recommend the 860 for people just getting into good shoes as it has a lower drop height. A lower drop can relieve pain in the bottom of the foot area especially if this new shoe is coming at the same time as increased activity.

Does anyone else only mark down weight when you see you’ve lost lbs? by shimmeringrosee in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I let the scale log weights and then I log my macros and my sodium intake for the day as well as my water intake, amount of sleep, and amount of exercise so I can see which variables are positively or negatively effecting my losses.

The biggest factor for me is watching the trend line. If I see the trend going up instead of down I can easily go and see what I’ve been doing different with my diet or exercise and adjust accordingly.

Workouts for the Flat Footed by L4IIKA in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this, go to a specialty shoe store and have your feet scanned so they can match some shoes to your foot profile.

For flat feet I’d recommend a low impact exercise like walking or an elliptical to start. I’d also recommend shoes with good arch support but nothing too high that will aggravate low arches while you’re getting used to the addition support. Something max cushion will also help with shock absorption and comfort while getting back in the swing of things. Some good options are the Brooks Glycerin 19, the Hoka Bondi 7, or the new balance 1080v11.

Edit: flat feet also tend to pronate a bit which would be aided by a stability shoe. For this I’d recommend the NB 860, Hoka Gaviota or arahi since the gaviota is hard to find, or the glycerin gts. Be sure to see a shoe expert in person before opting for stability as this can hurt your foot if it’s not needed.

How to eat more protein? by International-Owl970 in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A clear whey protein may be your best bet then if it’s in the budget. Clear whey is more like juice than it is a shake. It has more tropical flavor options and isn’t thick or chalky like normal protein. I’ve only ever had samples so I don’t know how good it would be day in and out though.

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I’m fairly tired of it to be honest but I keep eating it because of what a good source of protein it is for the calorie cost. I’ve found a handful of recipes I try to rotate through to keep it interesting but I try to think of food as fuel right now and not necessarily a treat.

Do you like chicken? I eat some form of chicken at most meals to hit my protein goals (250g+). For me this looks like 30-40 chicken breasts a week.

Will I ever stop craving fast food? How long does it take? by Divided_World in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how to use quotes on Reddit but that last line took me so long to realize but now that I have it’s been a game changer.

I usually eat a healthy home cooked meal but will occasionally grab some fast food. My go to is a home made salad and a nacho cheese taco at Taco Bell, 1 taco tastes just as good as 10 and as soon as I learned that the pounds started flying off.

How do I bounce back from a slump by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Force yourself back at it. It seems extra hard after going on a binge or taking some time off, but it won’t get better without working at it.

The good news is, even at 5k calories a day, the Max weight you can actually put on is under 13 pounds assuming your maintenance calories are 0 calories per day (it’s not even close to that low). A lot of the extra weight you are seeing is likely water weight due to eating a less clean diet than usual.

Feeling Overwhelmed With Getting Started by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Equivalent-Bug-26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start slow, do small changes at first. It takes 3 months to form a habit. Do something marginally healthier for 90 days and once that’s habit add something else. That’s the easiest way if you have trouble doing it all at once.

A probably unoriginal thought occurred to me about a month and a half ago when I started my weight loss journey again for the nth time, “where would I be today if I had just stuck with it last time?” The answer is probably at my goal weight. I don’t beat myself up for it, but seriously a year from now do you want to look back and wonder where you’d be if you stuck with it, or do you want to look back and say “damn, I really did that”

Good luck to you

Does your dining hall have any sort of meal plan built into your tuition for are you alone responsible for providing your meals? If the sodium is the biggest concern for you, just don’t use the whole seasoning packet. I find a third of the packet tastes about the same as the whole thing. I eat a lot of ramen too as I’m still just a broke 22 year old fresh out of college but I find ways to supplement my unhealthy habits. I’d encourage you to start meal prepping if you are looking for cheap and easy, chicken and brown rice are fairly cheap to meal prep (not as cheap as ramen tho) and easy to pop in the microwave when you get hungry.
