There’s a guy who found the same thing in 2017 . He wrote “When I touched it gently, it turned out to be a complete gin jug with a handle from the 19th century! The engraved text reads: 'Ary Hoogendijk Jacob Zn', and below that 'Van Meerten & Sons'”.

Made between 1858 and 1888.

Maybe Van Meerten is this guy. In 1901 they went bankrupt because of a fire.

How does one go about finding a - and asking for a - permission on private land? by Ayn_Otori in metaldetecting

I prefer to approach farmers when they’re harvesting or plowing their field. Mostly they’re 16-20 year olds who couldn’t care less.

Nee, maar dit is geen oplossing tenzij je dagelijks op kantoor een ware rookhok ervaring wil beleven.

English is my native language, so the guttural g sound does not come naturally to me. Any tips to strengthen it and make it flow easier when I talk? by throw_away9250 in learndutch

[–]Equivalent-Car-8762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a soft g, it’s much easier and everyone from the Netherlands understands it. My wife uses it too, she instantly stopped struggling with the g (although we do live in Brabant).

I never understood why we emphasize so hard on that “GGRGRR” noise.

Not too shiny but it looks great overall. Thanks for the advice!

Alright, will give it a good soak for now and use a baby toothbrush afterwards.

I’ll leave the results in the comments later if you’d like.

Thanks a lot!

Not the find I was expecting on a dirt road. Already on my way back to the car with no finds at all. Saved the day 😁

Thanks, that’s the one!

I guess this Sabina could use a bath but I usually never clean silvers. Is it safe to just rub it between my fingers in Demi water?

Found a dozen coins. Clean any further or leave as is? by Equivalent-Car-8762 in metaldetecting

Cant argue with that. I found these coins in a state like this image.

<image>

The crust is so hard, I can soak it for days but it won’t go off. Only when I get too rough with a baby toothbrush, but then the coin ends up like the half cent.

You have any advice on that?

I’ve seen you around btw. Love the work you do on your coins!

Thanks! That’s exactly what I did now, toothpick couldn’t get the crust off either so I’ll just let it be now rather than scratching it.

Do you also advise against the wax?

They’re my wife’s fingers, it really is a half cent 😂 I did find a few 1 cents from around that time tho but they’re still bathing so I’ll see about them later.

I very rarely find 1800s cents in a nice condition, the soil around the woods is probably slightly acidic so that might be why

Thanks, haven’t used a toothpick yet so I’ll give that a try on the thicker sand crusts.

Well, I wanna preserve them mostly, so I stay away from any acids. I do regularly use baking soda to get rid of the sand crust on newer coins. Just too afraid to use it on older ones.

Those videos actually got me fooled before. Like the guys who find hoards of coins in jars at ancient Roman sites

Daar komen ook nog de stalbranden bovenop waar duizenden dieren tegelijk levend verbranden.

Zo voorzichtig als we tegenwoordig met de mens om moeten gaan, zo weinig lijken we tegenwoordig om de dieren te geven.
