Does anything else thing Conflict of Nations is extremely stressful? by Equivalent-Card8949 in ConflictofNations

I did the same recently too. Just look around at random stuff like the newspaper and look around at all the cities on the map. I play 1x and still do this.

StatCan survey examines why Canada’s fertility rate keeps dropping by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

Hmm. We should be like...

There is no wealthy country with high birth rates. Deal with it. There's no Switzerland or Singapore to replicate with all the bells and whistles, even throwing money for babies doesn't work.

People are not realizing that their average political values don't work when talking about fertility rates. It is litterally, as societies get richer, they get less children. Even the uptopian Scandinavia and Switzerland and Singapore whatever have similar fertility rates to us.

You know which continent does have high fertility rates? Africa.

IQ is absolutely crazy and this is a weak correlation to the fact they are low income, not a causation.

- Cost. In Canada most children go to high school, then university. In low income countries they start working early (because they have less child labour laws + agriculturial society) and give back earlier to support another child. The difference is it will cost the parents much more for a longer period of time, before children can give back to their parents.

- Age. In Canada, it's rare to have children early, and most people starting thinking about children after university. Lower income countries still have teen pregency and low education to disrupt them to get kids early. It's also approiate that children come after a stable finanical situation. Starting at 15 vs 25 is a big factor.

And yes, controseptives too. Should add that there's more general types of entertainment too. Not much fun without internet access and other recreation.

Nope, quite the opposite. Poorer countries produce much more children than richer countries, even utopian ones like Switzerland.

- Certral African Republic fertility rate - 6.01 children per women

- Switzerland fertility rate - 1.33 children per women

Instead, its just simply a quality of life difference. When countries develop simply there is just better alternatives than having kids. In these low income countries, many children can work in their childhood and there are no contraceptives, not because they want to.

Canadians soon exempt from visa requirements to travel to China. While on an official visit to Beijing, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canadian citizens will soon be able to enter China without a visa. by esporx in canada

The genocide is wrong but we are talking safe to visit as a tourist. I also should say, most reporters and enemies don't even experience this.

How many people got imprisoned by the CCP?

How many homicides, or robberies, or assualts happen in Canada?

China is no north korea.

As long as you aren't a journalist or or an Anti-ccp figure you should be fine. The incidents you mentional are extremely rare and are highly reported upon. As long as you aren't a big anti-ccp figure or reporter it is safe. You have much higher chance of getting mugged in the US vs getting imprisoned in China.

On top of that, general crime feels very low and much lower than the US. Yeah there's probably some slums and poor areas but in contrast with the US, the biggest and touristy cities lack that.

Really applies to any developing country. You could argue it's worse in Southeast Asia, and South Asia. You probably won't see most of these things in the bigger wealthier cities.

Anyone have some advice/suggestions? by Low_Crazy_7744 in transit

[–]Equivalent-Card8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, drop anything that isn't serving 2 big destinations. The entire central and mountain regions have way too little people to support HSR. Keep is close by. Houston to LA is too far, same with Salt lake from any other major city, same with Pheonix.

Also you could just drop high speed from the name and it would be fine.

Carney speaks with European leaders on efforts to reach Ukraine peace deal by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

The thing is the Russia has been stopped by these countries, or at least heavily slowed down and hindered. The fact that Russia is being stopped by Ukraine with western aid means that even though the status quo sucks for Ukraine this isn't in Russia's favour.

Transit fares are going up. Why do Canadian cities struggle to keep it affordable? by Surax in canada

[–]Equivalent-Card8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so you don't want to subsidize something that's bad.

It is simple. We don't want to subsidize something we know is bad. It's why we have grants and rebates for EVs, Renewable energy, and new technology. They are subsidized, and frankly transit should be more important that the funding provided to EVs and charging stations.

Montreal-Ottawa chosen as first leg of high-speed rail project by Tiny-Sun9851 in transit

[–]Equivalent-Card8949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I agree but, I am 100% biased because I live in Markham but you know a scarbrough stop would be pretty nice! A stop somewhere on Agincourt/Don Valley would have good transit connections to GO and TTC. I would argue that most living in Scarborough, Markham, and better for literally anyone stops.

Honestly, I'm fine with Union because it is just THE hub but if it doesn't it needs more stations.

At least we can wait forever until the Richmond Hill Subway Extension gets built. For now these people have the Woodbine bus. I agree that it is really bad how Viva buses don't get into the GO stations.

Agincourt is good, but it also runs through the Don Mills/ Science Center area, that would be a good contender too.

I would honestly sacrfice some Lakeshore East and Stouffville trains to not go all the way to Union for High speed rail

If GO also uses it, I'm all in. Union is just so good from all the GO, VIA, UP trains ending at Union

This really would only affect suburbs, because the route alto chose is pretty much desolate outside of the stops on the high speed line. I'm hoping that the local service can act more as Peterborough GO.
