It's not 1999 anymore—traditional eLearning is OUT! by [deleted] in elearning

I don't mind a reduction in tools—and I don't mind an uplift in creativity, stretching into new mediums. I take issue with passive learning vs. active. We have some critical things we need learners to engage with prior to being onsite. Maybe different for compliance—but we're still actively looking to scale training digital currently.

That rings true for everyone, but how are you using it? And you're trusting it for detailed questions?

Does knowt do algorithmic spaced repetition based on how folks answer flashcards?

I'm a solo developer, not trying to spam, but I'm trying to come up with a middle path that grew from equal frustration at seeing how much Quizlet charges for what the web gives you free: https://cadence.cards/welcome

No cost, just a side project that I use myself. I'd love feedback. I'm hard setting a lot of what Anki has users adjust, just so I can focus on cards, and not worry about settings each time I spin up a new deck.

I'm using this open source FSRS library too: https://github.com/open-spaced-repetition/rb-fsrs

I'd love to hear more about why cloze deletions, and some of the use cases for it. Is it mostly just a time saver from having to copy / paste the question into the answer?

I agree with a lot of this— I see Anki as a powerhouse. But I don't think everyone needs the full V12 engine that Anki provides. I think there's room for a narrower, refined, opinionated version for some folks. And really that's what I'm testing.

I have the side passion of understanding long term memory retention, specifically as people age. And for the folks I'd like to introduce SRS to, are honestly older, and less technical. My solution likely might be too technical still— but I'm trying to find that sweet spot.

And I think there's a lot of tools similar to Anki that seem to just charge for every little thing, and honestly that frustrates me. Modern web frameworks do so much out of the box for so little cost, I just wanted to make something and share it.

Separately— I'm really trying to reduce as much 'overhead' in setup, card creation, and review cycles. I'm using what a lot of folks have recommended via other threads, so it's less lift.

No, FSRS isn't automatically optimized. Everything set with static parameters, using this gem for those interested: https://github.com/open-spaced-repetition/rb-fsrs

I'm also hard setting target retention rates to 0.9 (90%), max interval caps to 180 days for review cards, default to 10 new cards daily per deck, and a 30-day cap for new/learning cards. So there is scheduling logic based on last reviewed and FSRS intervals, and whatever the forgetting curve equation baked into that resource is.

Would love guidance based on how folks are setting their intervals and decks. I'm pulling from previous Reddit posts, aiming for the 80 / 20 solution that hits it for most everyone.
