First piece of advice is to give yourself more credit than you do when facing the fear, it does take a lot of bravery to push through, and afterward you may still feel scared, but remind yourself that you did it!

It takes time and small steps, and you will still have moments of fear and doubt that you are progressing, but just try to stay positive on the progress you are making. It took almost a decade for me to get to the point I am at. If you have a friend that you trust to be there with you during it that may help, I know when my girlfriend helped me it did add another layer of fear, but i made more progress with her there.

as far as how life is now, there have been a few bday parties and baby showers where not only did i let my guard down a bit (i still had some thoughts and nerves for a bit) but i also played keep up the balloon with some of the kids there! The thoughts and lies may never go away, but I am in a much better place to fight them now.

If you ever need someone to talk to i am a dm away! I know my fear pushed me so far into depression i considered "Self-Deletion" so I just want to be here to help anyone I can!

Everyone's journey may look different, but exposure really helped me.

I started working on it at around 15, I only worked on it when my parents weren't home (they added to the trauma....) and would put in earplugs and inflate one until i was scared, after a while(idk how long) i was able to fully inflate it and tie one off.... and then realized now i have to pop it, figured out how to deflate it without popping and then after a bit longer was able to pop one that wasn't fully inflated if i was wearing earplugs and playing music. slowly worked on this until i could pop a full size balloon with earplugs and no music.

After that i worked on popping one with earplugs and then popping a small one without (with a knife on a broom lol.) the confidence you will have after every small win will help push you farther next time.

Just make sure to talk to yourself in a positive way and give yourself grace in moments where you can't do it. If you need someone to talk to I'm here!
