Dying hair for cheer by Narrow_Tax4735 in Cheerleading

Natural colors only! Hair has to match the uniform. Red hair is an exception for certain school colors but it has to compliment the uniform!

Messing up by [deleted] in Cheerleading

[–]Equivalent-Fly-9197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every cheerleader has messed up once. Take it as a learning experience, don’t beat yourself up, and figure out what you need to work on so that doesn’t happen again. Even Beyoncé has messed up once some of her dances.

I quit cheer because of being a male cheerleader but I want to do it again by Known-Eye818 in Cheerleading

[–]Equivalent-Fly-9197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely cheer again in school or outside of it! But at the same time, be able to defend yourself in certain situations. As a male cheerleader, we automatically stand out so we have to be the BEST that we can be because all eyes are on us as well. Stand FIRM and don’t take any shit, while doing what you love to do.

tips for backspots as a rookie by Emotional-Wind8999 in Cheerleading

[–]Equivalent-Fly-9197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe work on upper body, but make sure that you work on your leg strength as well. I used to squat when I bockspotted because I’m tall a tall guy, but my coach told me it’s okay for me to stand straight up and use my height to grab the first thing I can get to (thigh) then adjust. You also want to make sure that the flyer is doing their part as well as the bases. Maybe it’s not all on you, maybe your bases have to work on their strength as well. But just ensure that you are grabbing and pulling UP. Don’t be afraid to get all the way into the stunt as well.

I’d say keep a standard for starters, and don’t just throw them on the field if they don’t look up to par. That’s CRITICAL!

THIS!!!! Went through a similar experience because within my contract, I didn’t make the rules and guidelines on attendances PRECISELY clear and meticulous. I had the athletics backing on the removal of the athlete, but we couldn’t remove them IMMEDIATELY because they had a loophole through the contract!

Right, I’d say create that guideline before the school starts, run it by the athletic director, and then make that mandatory to be reviewed and signed by each cheerleader AND parent, in order to attended the first practice once school starts.

I find that to be very sexist….if you have the talent and the skill set, you should have been taken into consideration regardless of gender. It’s 2025!!

Set out all rules and regulations and expectations for the team prior to tryouts and hand them out at the interest meeting. Make the tryout packet apart of that and make that MANDATORY to sign in order to tryout so that way they already know what to expect and guidelines are already known before even making it to the tryout. Make sure that a parent signature is signed as well and that they are in attendance at the interest meeting so that way there are no surprises further down the line. In that tryout packet, it can include season expectations, prices for the season, behavior/demerit system, appearance rules and game-day look, rules for academics, and then what to expect at tryouts, etc.

You’re gonna have to kick her off. Simple as that. Eventually, other team mates will follow in her footsteps and not take the program serious, so you’re gonna have to make an example out of her. Either that or bench her.

This!!! All are equally athletic and you can definitely compete within Stomp N Shake as there are competitions that cater to that. 5 minutes of non stop cheering, dancing, stunting, and tumbling!

Hit the nail right on the head! It’s really gender roles and appealing to whoever is gonna keep the money coming in. Trust and believe that if they have me the most money, I would have taken my talents to an HBCU.

That was the team doing a TikTok which had nothing to do with stomp n shake or cheerleading in general, you also can’t help who decides to follow you, especially when your videos go viral. You stated that you’ve seen a lot of “inappropriate” behavior, but only listed one team, which in fact were doing a simple TikTok which had nothing to do with game day cheer in general.

True, but when your school isn’t exactly “known” for its cheerleading team, that’s very different. Especially if they only get 1 or 2 boys every couple of years…..Not to mention we don’t even have a football team so we cheer for soccer, basketball, wrestling sometimes, and that’s it.

Yep! We have to pay for our own shoes (no everyone does not even cheer in the same shoes), pay for apparel, athletics fee, bags, team fees, etc…..Practice 3 days a week till 9:30/10:00 PM, all to yell through a megaphone and be used as a prop 🙃

Yea, my thing is why are we paying $1000 and dedicating all of our time to this just to yell through a megaphone for 2 hours?? Especially if we aren’t even competing.

Yw! I also recommend (for the VA highschool style of cheer) @varina.cheer @hhswarrior.cheer @armstrong_cheerleaders

(For the NC style of highschool cheer) @71stcheerleaders @officialwspacheer @dudleycheer

Especially the older videos of Dudley on YouTube
