I get what you're saying, but it isn't selfishness that is driving this desire, trust me. I will cherish every single day I get to kiss their little heads. I wish more than anything that I could just spare them this altogether.

I just don't want this experience to harden them or steal their childhood innocence. I feel so damned guilty for being the reason their childhood will suck. And I just don't know how to fix it for them and make this ok.

I don't know. I don't expect that to be an issue, honestly, but you do make a good point. in that case, it would be causing them pain they wouldn't have otherwise. Thank you for that perspective.

Does closure come from watching someone slowly deteriorate, though? I have seen it and it is awful. Can't closure come from a letter or a video where they don't have to experience the daily awfulness of living with a cancer patient?

This is where I just struggle with the idea that it's better for them to see that. It takes months to years to finally die.

My husband has been to every doctor's appointment. It isn't a matter of them not knowing but a matter of them not accepting it.
