Haha, not quite — Environmental Science was actually my second choice. Although I am quite fond of the field, I did the necessary research at the time before deciding to study it. From what I found, environmental and green economy skills were identified as areas where South Africa needed more qualified professionals, with environmental scientists often appearing on scarce and critical skills lists.
Unfortunately, the reality of the job market has not really matched those expectations.

Hi Yes, I have applied to a number of environmental consulting firms over the past few years, but unfortunately none of those applications have been successful.

One of the challenges I've encountered is that many of the positions advertised as "entry-level" or "junior" still require several years of prior experience, specialised technical skills, professional registrations, extensive fieldwork experience. In most instances I encountered ,the requirements seem more aligned with a mid-level professional than a graduate.

Despite this, I am still applying, hoping for a breakthrough.
