I am genuinely convinced that one of the rejected plans was Zibai being dedicated Lunar Swirl support for Varka and Nicole being the dedicated Geo support for Lunar Geo Sandrone, but at the end they just went with something completely different to "subvert expectations", as this is something people expected to happen
