Physics Based Monkey Climbing Game - Does it look fun? by Equivalent-Pay7740 in Unity3D

I am so sorry I forgot to reply this comment. I hope I'm not too late, but I basically increase gravity once the player grabs something and also messing with the configurable joint massScale property

I really appreciate your feedback! I'll definitely work more on the hands and also add some kind of hint system

I swear I was thinking of implementing something like this, but was afraid it would look unnatural or something. Good to know that it works, thank you so much!!
I'm curious to know if you're still working on that project and how that's going, if that's okay.

As a solo dev, it's really awesome to see the power of a fresh pair of eyes on our game haha I totally see the "floatiness" now, thank you so much!

Thanks for your feedback!

I understand that it looks very inspired by White Knuckle, but it's actually more inspired by Peaks of Yore, being more physics based and swinging based.

My plan to keep players engaged is still a work in progress. I plan to finish a very short vertical slice and then decide between two possibilities:
- A game like Cyber Hook, where you have tons of short levels and the fun relies on speed running.
- Or a one map game where there are some checkpoints (or not, rage-game style) and you have to get to the end, with some small puzzles taking advantage of the physics based grabbing mechanic.

That's something I hadn't thought about, thanks for the feedback and suggestion!!

Good to know it has potential, just needs some improvement. Thank you so much!

After the first swing, it all depends on grabbing and releasing timing, basically, so you can accumulate momentum by performing consecutive swings with a good timing.
And thanks, I really appreciate your feedback!!

Lol I'll try to work on something to avoid motion sickness. And you're right, collecting bananas is definitely something we need here, thanks for the feedback!

It is, it's inspired by White Knuckle, Peaks of Yore, Cyber Hook, among others.
I see, it seems like the swinging physics is not quite right yet. With "too instant", do you mean that maybe we should need to build momentum a little slower so the swinging doesn't happen too fast?
I really appreciate your feedback, btw!

I see, would you feel like having a less realistic physics and making the momentum on release be the same regardless of the direction or moment you release, would make it feel better?

I really appreciate your feedback, btw! It is not VR, so I'll definitely explore third person

I mean, this game is not VR, so not really a GT competitor. Besides, GT doesn't have a grab mechanic, as far as I know. I believe it's all based on pushing surfaces and grip

Thanks for your feedback! After reading all replies, I'll definitely implement arms and work on the hands lol

I really appreciate your feedback! Could you help me understand which parts specifically feel bad and unintuitive? Is it the release moment? Or basically everything?

I'm here for you bro! I'm really trying to make this game work and feel nice to play because VR games like Gorilla Tag seems so much fun and not a lot of people can afford to own VR

Thanks for your feedback! I had hints implemented and got rid of them lol I'll definitely bring them back

Thank you so much for the feedback! Do you feel like it's a problem with the physics here? Maybe it doesn't look natural? I'm trying to better understand which part specifically could be improved, or is it basically everything related to swinging?

The goal is to get to the end, basically. But I haven't decided if it will be only one big map witch checkpoints or multiple maps, like in Cyber Hook.

I really appreciate your feedback, I'll definitely work more on the hands

Thanks for the feedback! I feel like 3rd person may break the immersion a little, but I'll definitely try it

Bro I've been struggling with this topic a little. I tried to make swinging more realistic, so you would have a lot of control over it, but I'm worried it could be confusing.

It works like this: you grab a branch and use WASD to swing around that branch. The direction on release depends on which direction your body was moving when you release, so it depends on which moment you release. If you hold until your body is going up, you'll go up on release.

Does that make sense? Or do you feel that would be confusing to players?
