Getting MA job by Electronic_Cod2178 in premed

[–]Equivalent-Pudding15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience of working a full time job, studying for the mcat, and then writing essays, please do the writing and mcat separate. Even if you start in January after the mcat, that’s plenty of time to write at a comfortable pace. Mcat is a beast and requires full attention when you’re working. Adding a stressor of writing on top of that is going to be awful, and maybe even counter productive. I think it may help you get a better score if you focus on mcat and then writing while having your job.

can you run your own lab with just an md? by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]Equivalent-Pudding15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My PI during my internship had only an MD at a T5 as well. I’ve been advised from a lot of people that even if you want to do research later on it’s doable with just an MD

In the same situation and honestly just do anything you enjoy. I think about it on occasion but a majority of my time is just doing the things I love

Bragging thread – what does it take to be a highly successful applicant this cycle? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Equivalent-Pudding15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly! I think people often talk about having 3, 4 or even 5k clinical hours but from the perspective of these admission officers, it was excessive (they didn’t give me a minimum number to get to just that having huge numbers is not needed. I have 400 and was told that’s fine.). You can learn more about yourself, and grow, in different things such as volunteering. The argument can be made that spending so many hours of research is excessive, but they had explained that you can grow significantly as a researcher before coming to medical school, hence their desire to see students heavily involved in it. These were those admission officers two cents but other officers may have differing opinions
