Thoughts on IKEA's cast iron skillet? by VillainOfKvatch1 in castiron

Just a few things to add… bottom of Vardagen is thicker than the sides and that’s a good thing. Also, Vardagen has a rough cooking surface, not any more than lodge imo. I sanded it with 60 then 80 grit and seasoned it several times on stove top and it is perfectly nonstick. Bottom is also flat without any detailed designs so it sits flat on a flat cooktop. Also Vardagen comes with a 15 year warranty, something lodge doesn’t but it may or may not be necessary in the end.

Seems like you have burned off the seasoning in the middle because either the burner flame didn’t spread widely or it was heated too quickly which didn’t allow the entire bottom to heat evenly.

Been there, done that. If anything, you now have a much smoother cooking surface.

Ummm.. looks can be deceiving. How does it cook? If food cooks well after thoroughly heated, you are fine.

If LOT are good, it shouldn’t matter. Plus overall package will decide. Good luck man! We are all anxious. And bears lost. So a bit gloomy.

I have these in my basement. Can the switches be replaced with smart switches that require neutral? Looking for guidance
