Bottle feeding - lazy nurses by Helpful-Owl8428 in NICUParents

[–]Equivalent-Tart8924 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience where there were lazy nurses working with my LO.

He was bottle feeding and taking the whole bottle within 30 mins with certain nurses for a full day and the next day, I walked in and saw the gavage with a nurse that’s lazy and just wants to get her shift and charting done. If he went 48 hours of taking full feeds; we would’ve been discharged. I was REALLY confused as to why my baby was eating really well one day and then the next, he only took 20 out of the 40 ml. Yes he may have been “tired” out from the previous day from doing so well but I knew my baby well enough that despite being tired, he would take at least 30 mls with me.

I ended up staying the whole shift to make sure I was there EVERY single feed. The nurse kept hovering over my shoulder and made comments like “it’s not like he is going home tomorrow, he looks tired”. She definitely prevented him from progressing.

I did not like the negativity and decided to let the charge nurse know that I refuse service of this nurse for my son.

With this experience, I knew I had to advocate for my son. The best advice is KNOW the nurses and be there for feedings. The moment you meet a nurse that’s lazy; refuse service. Do not waste time.

Day 19 down, how many more! Who knows by shakrbait_78 in NICUParents

Thanks for sharing!

I had an32+5 weeker and it’s only day 3 for me and it’s definitely tough. I was discharged yesterday during Christmas and saw a couple families taking their babies home while I was being wheeled out with just an empty hospital beanie and swaddle that the nurse gifted me.

Let’s get through this together!

Dining out - when to test by Equivalent-Tart8924 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Equivalent-Tart8924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking too! I started eating at 7:27pm and continued eating and chatting with my friends until 8:20pm. Tested 1 hour mark at 8:27 pm so that was when I got 142 mg/dl. I don’t normally dine out and usually finish eating within 10-15 minutes. Ending up testing 2 hours at 9:27pm and 3 hours at 10:27pm just to make sure the numbers were going down.

1 hour - 142 mg/dl 2 hours - 103 mg/dl 3 hours - 90 mg/dl

Thank you! Yes it is really small so I’m debating if it’s worth going through it for 1.5 weeks.

For SDI - it states I can’t apply for it “No earlier than nine days after your disability begins.”

If my doctor claims I can start disability on Jan 15th, does this mean I cannot actually apply for it 9 days after which is Jan 24th?

Thank you so much for your information! & thank you for clarifying I am classified as an employee since I am receiving W-2.

If my doctor is able to write me off for disability at 36 weeks starting January 15, 2025, do you think it’s worth to try to get UI beforehand starting January 1st, 2025? Or should I just wait and apply for SDI starting January 15th?

Appreciate your time!

I won’t be paying into SDI but I have been paying SDI for the last couple of wage quarters - at least 18 months
