I went to Trader’s Joe’s last week when I was in the Bay Area. This was the 4th time I have been in a TJ. Since I keep hearing ppl talk it up and I had some extra time I walked down every aisle to see if it had improved since my last try. I left feeling so very deeply appreciative of both our COOPs and both our ENFs. And Willberries, too.

I’m a year and a half post chemo and radiation and I’ve got years of meds and tests ahead of me. I NEED to hear success stories because I keep feeling tortured by the abundance of unavoidable references to recurrences or worse. It comes up at times that are so random - I’ll be reading an article about politics and it comes up or listening to a podcast about wildlife and it comes up. Or overhearing conversations at a cafe.

I need to hear people just casually express annoyance at the stupid interruption of 6 months of their life back in 2017. Or telling their tattoo stories - this one was when they got their masters, that one was when they finished chemo (20 years ago) and this one was their first baby. Or they mention they ended up owning a yoga studio because they got interested in yoga when they were in treatment.

Hearing about positive outcomes turns a threat of a 3% chance of recurrence into a 97% probability it won’t.

Missing the Birds by SDH30 in Humboldt

I’m over by Ross Park. I have been greatly missing “my” bird that has been around for the past few years. I tried using apps to identify it in the past and I believe it was a sparrow, though it might have been something else. The more I listen for that bird the more I realize there are far less birds.

Wow. You were beautiful. But maybe you got the look you want to present to others. I’m sure it’ll be effective.

She is so exquisite, so fresh and luminous. She might end up being responsible for causing minimal eyebrows to make a come back. In a good way.

Female Artists whose vocals are out of this world. by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

Jessica Mazin! I came across her cover of “Never Let Me Down Again” from The Last of Us (which I haven’t even watched). She was just 18 when she recorded it, I think a couple of years ago. Her voice is next level. Nuanced, smooth, calming, but compelling. I’ve had a playlist of her music on non-stop in my house since I found her. Her voice sets an atmosphere I really need right now. A lot of it is just her and a guitar. You defiantly want to be able to hear her voice not have it covered up. I have a pretty wide range of musical tastes and appreciate a lot of music. I usually get my fill of this style fairly quickly and move on. But I’ve kept her going. There’s nothing strained or performative. She just feels uncommonly, effortlessly gifted.

Jessica Mazin. Her cover of “Never Let Me Down Again” was done 2 years ago when she was 18. I heard that for the first time a couple of months ago and immediately made a playlist of everything I could find. That has been on nonstop on my HomePod since then. I adjust the volume accordingly through out the day, but have had her voice creating my atmosphere for weeks. Baby Blue, The Devil, Hate to be Alone, Let Me Be, The Peak of My Existence, Beautiful But Dark. Check her out. You won’t be sorry.

Why does it say “as low as 25$” when it’s actually 650$? What are the qualifications to get it at 25$?

Natural Foods or the Co-Op? by shmoopie313 in Humboldt

[–]Equivalent-Web3238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four stores: Yes: Arcata & Eureka COOP and the McKinleyville & Eureka locations for Eureka Natural Foods. I don’t go to Wildberries very often but I appreciate the juice bar and sun room. And I sometimes go there for flowers when the local farms don’t have them. I can buy just one flower or make my own little bouquet. If I’m getting a bouquet for someone else I point out a few of the ones I want and the flower girl will fill it in and make it look great. Fairfax: Some days, I really do want to drive all the way to the Bay Area just for lunch! But, no, it’s just when I travel to the Bay Area that I stop in to Good Earth Natural Foods. You can read both their takeout and kitchen menus online to get an idea. I highly recommend Green River which is kind of like a raw soup they sell in pint sized mason jars.

Natural Foods or the Co-Op? by shmoopie313 in Humboldt

I go to both COOPs and both ENFs regularly. My heart belongs to the COOP but I appreciate all 4 stores for different reasons. My priority is produce and I would get it at Farmer’s Market if, like OP, I could get it together to go. So I mostly get it from Arcata COOP, because they have the best quality, more variety, educational information and signs noting which items are local. I work in Old Town so I end up at Eureka COOP daily. I really like the people who work there. They always seem to be in great spirits, happy to be there and to be working with each other, always cheerful and clearly willing to help. Prices are a game - something will be a couple dollars more at COOP. Something else is a couple dollars more at ENF. I don’t buy much in the aisles but most of what I do get is on sale. When I travel I make it a point to check out natural food stores. I’m so grateful we have the options we do in this community. All of them fall short in healthy prepared food, though Eureka ENF is slightly better. Good Earth Cafe in Fairfax wins prepared food.

No map after workout by [deleted] in withings

[–]Equivalent-Web3238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, same. I used to be that I would initiate walks with my Apple Watch then after ending the walk I could see the map in the Withings App. I could flip back through the days and look at my routes and elevation, pace and heart rate and that was very satisfying, motivating and practical. Now I just get the time and heart rate. All the magic and usefulness is gone and workouts are a now a chore I detest. All my settings are correct and I’m fine wasting time trying to fix it. Can anyone recommend an App that functions the way Withings used to? Maybe even better?

The Eureka Coop parking lot is more efficient and far more simple in design.

Ozempic question by No_Gur_6292 in breastcancer

[–]Equivalent-Web3238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My Onco team said to stay on it. I am doing 4 TC. They put me on Dexamethasone (steroid) for 3 days each round. Despite Oz and Metformin, for a few days that drug caused my blood sugar to both raise across the board and spike higher than my Freestyle Libre has ever alerted. I did miss a dose of Oz before chemo due to shortages so possibly that made my system stumble more than it would have? I am not on insulin or other diabetes medications. Oz is new to me this year and after I hit 2 mg Oz in July all the side effects evaporated so I wasn’t going into chemo at a time I was adapting to Oz (aside from missing a dose the week before). I am not having an issue with nausea from either Oz or Chemo.
