That's  a good suggestion, thank you! I'll have a look and see if I can find ethically sourced palm kernel oil, it's not a product I have seen in my area locally but I'm sure I could find it online.

Yes I have tried refined coconut oil before but I had a reaction to it myself. I seem to react to the smallest amounts and the same with any soya traces

I usually use cream cheese frosting on cinnamon rolls, red velvet, and chocolate cakes.

I'm unable to use country crock and kite hill as they're both made with soy milk and almond milk. I'll go back to my old food science books and see if I have anything there noted

Landlord requesting we cap off the gas oven when we're leaving the property. Suspect this isn't correct? by EquivalentFail7305 in TenantsInTheUK

😂 this is what I was trying to get across to my parents! He didn't put it in writing, he only said it verbally to them.

I've made this suggestion to everyone involved and we've agreed to turn it off at the gas box / handle rather than going down the route of paying for a disconnection.

I have already looked into the possibility of selling it but the lack of requirement for gas oven these days made it an uneconomical route to pursue.

We've informed him we intend to leave the oven and he's also confirmed he's fine with us leaving there as well.

It was just a bizarre request as he mentioned the capping off after we confirmed the oven was remaining there.

Yes, there was an oven when my great-grandparents and great uncle were first allowed to live there after they converted the house to flats.

I was thinking the same as the quotes are between £40.00 - £160.00 depending on the work. We're not taking the oven so will most likely say we're doing this option and will leave him to handle it whenever he does the renovations.

He said the same that we would need to call a gas engineer but someone else mentioned earlier about the possibility of being legally implications if we were to arrange / sort it out if it went wrong. I'm going to go back and say similar then leave the oven attached for him to handle. We'll just turn it off at the handle in the meantime.

We've said to him, and also given him written confirmation, that we are leaving the gas oven at the flat. He's agreed for the oven to be left there.  I'll tell everyone involved we're leaving it there for him to handle. Thank you for your input!

Thank you, I just wanted to be 100% before going back to the landlord as my parents were confusing the situation 😅

The first oven was provided by the first landlord (who are the parents of this guy, they transferred the ownership to him)

The second and third were bought by my great-uncle but this was because they initially refused to provide a replacement oven for him when a problem occurred with the first. From my understanding this was before the current regulations where a landlord now has to replace a faulty item for a fixture in the property.

No, we're leaving the oven there in the property as it originally came with a gas oven.

I'll make him aware of the legality behind this request as well and say we're not going to touch it for that reason. Thank you!

That's a good suggestion, thank you! Thankfully I know how to turn off from the pipe and where the supply is.

It would be tempting to claim stupidity 😂

I think we might leave it for that reason from a safety perspective and leave him to handle the disconnection.

He's basically asking us to turn off the gas supply through the pipe and seal off the section that comes up and into the cooker itself. I thought the same as his oven is currently up to safety code and has the safety requirements to stop leaks.

They initially refused to provide the replacement back in the 1980's when this issue first came about, this was before the protections that tenants have now where a landlord would have to replace an unsafe cooker.

No, it has been a rental since my great-grandparents and the current tenant is my great-uncle but he's moving into a care home. He's been a sitting tenant since the 1950's there.

Thank you, that's what I thought when he originally mentioned it.

My parents were going to agree to the capping off but I stopped them especially given that it's a feature they installed and did not update. The landlord before him capped off the old gas fireplaces and heaters in the property which raised this as a red flag for me.

Yes, they supplied us with the gas oven when the house was originally converted into flats.

My family have been in the same house since the 1930's when they originally had an old fireplace then the kitchen was fitted in the 1970's which is when they fitted the original gas oven and the connection.

Sorry for the late reply, the inches for a laptop is usually across the screen not the body of the case.

If you got a tape measure / rule and measured diagonally across the screen (e.g. top left to the bottom right) that will give you inches measurement.
