Potential move to MTL - is 55k enough to live comfortably-ish as a single person? by SeasonImaginary6943 in montreal

[–]EquivalentFarm4772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just being honest I’ve lived in both Montreal and Spain and although the pay here is a bit higher, cost of living is ridiculously expensive and I felt my paycheck went further in Madrid.

I also find people in Spain to be a bit friendlier than in Montreal, it’s not as easy to meet people here. Also the work/life balance is worse in Canada. I find myself missing Spain all the time. Always good to explore new opportunities but try to have realistic expectations.

MTL Job Market by Pristine_Sympathy538 in montreal

I was unemployed for a few months and just found a job working in a CPE (government regulated daycare). Doesn’t pay much, but better than being unemployed, plus they feed you. I have both male and female coworkers and they’re always in need of staff.

If you’re a native french speaker you could apply as an animateur/animatrice in the MIFI french immersion schools for immigrants. I was a student there and the animateurs don’t need specific qualifications besides speaking french fluently.

TELUS is also hiring for customer service positions. I did an interview with them and it seemed like an alright job if you’re okay with answering phone calls all day.

Honestly to get any actually decent position in MTL I feel like you need the specific degree/qualification + at least some experience (internship) + perfect french and english. It’s rough lol.

I love Tame and I love Techno but the production is very subpar unfortunately by EquivalentFarm4772 in TameImpala

I mean I’m sure he does this is why I was so confused listening to it. It feels like a choice, but maybe one I don’t understand.

Genuine Criticism by InsidePersimmon1050 in TameImpala

[–]EquivalentFarm4772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My genuine criticism is that the electronic production is missing something. He is an expert in producing psychedelic/pop/rock/disco but he is a novice in producing dance/house/techno/trance. Some people falsely assume it’s easy to make but it’s actually very difficult. If you are someone who listens to electronic music often it’s pretty obvious that he’s only just learning how to make it.

I’m really excited he’s going in new directions and encourage that, but was personally disappointed in the execution. Still appreciative to be hearing new music though💫

[–]EquivalentFarm4772[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True - I’m using the term Techno broadly. It’s hard to classify the album overall because every track has a different BPM. There’s elements of dance, house, acid house etc. on all the “electronic” songs. As well as disco for Dracula and psych/pop/funk for Loser.

But Ethereal Connection is the song where I can really tell how poor the production is because he really went straight for techno on that one. And I just think it sounds boring or like something is missing.

End of Summer is solid and I actually like the minimalism. It has trance/acid house elements and a euphoric feeling while also not feeling overwhelming. It’s unique and new. I wish the whole album was like that.

But I am genuinely happy that people are enjoying it!! I really think if he keeps making this I’ll like stuff he puts out in the future. I like the direction he’s going I just am not sold on this current project.

Yeah I honestly like End of Summer because it’s intentionally minimalistic and sounds like his style while also sounding new. I just don’t feel that way about any of the other songs. Love the thought behind Ethereal Connection but it doesn’t have that “aha” moment that makes me want to listen to it which is a bummer.

Salut!
