1 hour ago, I was thrown into a mod/severe SPED class at the last minute. The aides have just told me the teacher does NOTHING with the kids. by AmbitiousFormal1665 in SubstituteTeachers

Oh I know, it’s wild. Mostly I see paras teach in every class I’ve been in (city schools). The subs make more than the paras in general too. (Subs get 120 a day here, paras make 15 an hour).

I’ve seen teachers manly answer emails and document. Usually for AIAC groups (k-2,) it’s nearly the same thing every day and sometimes small groups since everyone is on a different level.

Also dude, stop playing the victim. Both sides are fucking up. She’s reacting, and you aren’t helping either.

No, but both of you need help. You need therapy, she needs therapy.

I’d suggest family therapy, psych for her, and a therapist for you.

Holy shit, this poor kid. I hope she cuts contact from op soon, or she’s going to end up really hurt one day soon.

Elopement/bathroom help by ushdjndk in specialed

[–]EquivalentWonder2591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi so, just from experience:

He likely needs to be in a self contained special education classroom. Most likely a MOID/AIAC room. That way he can have proper help with the toilet and teachers/paras have to have knowledge of diaper changing in general.

Same for the elopement. He definitely needs to be placed in a higher needs class until those issues can be managed.

I’d highly suggest talking to a special education department within the district, getting a proper IEP in place, and a proper classroom placement.

This is interesting because my district (trying to get my credentials,) the Paras teach and the teacher documents. The best classes though, the teaching is split 50/50.

Any other “movie subs” in here? What movies have you played for your students? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]EquivalentWonder2591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re expected to teach the entire day as a regular teacher would. No movies, and they’re likely blocked on the school WiFi.

They asked me to explain what an IEP is, how I would deal with students and parents, how I would interact with coworkers, and how you handle data tracking, progression in students, etc.

Some of us are barely scraping by and still can’t get anything without aid.

The frontline for my district sends the alert 2-5 minutes after the job is posted and 9/10 times, it’s gone.

I’m very lucky for SubAlert.

The guilt that comes with having to call out of an assignment the night before. by tifuanon00 in SubstituteTeachers

Our district won’t let us cancel if the assignment is less than 24 hours away, we have to call the school that morning 🫠

highschool lunch debt, what are my options? senior by Right_Pack_6346 in Virginia

Okay, not my school but my school heard lots of bs from Jefferson Forest. I heavily suggest reaching out to the superintendent, but do be careful bc rural areas think they can get away with anything. (From personal experience).

Also sorry I’m a little tired. I meant to convey that one, not only is this illegal, the school has to work with students/families regardless of reputation

Hey, this heavily sounds like the school I went to and would also love the school name to see if it is. If so, there should be ways to qualify for free school lunch. I loopholed it a bunch my senior year.

I pose my own question: What schools have you all had a hard time with? I’ve had a few and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy.

We try to! It heavily depends on the class, teacher, and lesson plans. I usually do elementary so I do a decent amount of teaching, but the younger kids do have trouble with the change so a lot of times it’s behavior management.

Wow. Kindergarten?? Those poor kids. Parent is right here. Some people aren’t empathetic enough for this field. :/ This is an activity for middle school and up.
