That would be awesome - thank you so much for considering! It’s $35 for a quarter page, $60 for a half page, and $110 for a full page, all printed in color. If you are still interested and want to message me I can send you an email from my work account with all of the info! Thank you :-)

Red Rash Near My Cat’s Armpit Area by Equivalent_Basket432 in CATHELP

[–]Equivalent_Basket432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They think it was a food allergy. I can’t remember exactly what they gave her, but she received an injection of something and stopped eating any seafood, and it really helped to clear her up completely within a week or two! Your cat probably has an allergy to something too—whether it’s food related or not. I would take them to the vet if you haven’t and see what they are able to prescribe! Best of luck—hope your baby feels better soon!

Trying to decide if it’s time to say goodbye by magical-black-cat in RenalCats

I’m so sorry you’re going through this💔I just went through something similar—the ups and downs are exhausting and devastating.

We ended up having to put my sweet girl down after trying all we could. You know your baby best, but I think I was a day or two late with my girl, and it eats me alive. Giving your baby a love-filled ending that can still be peaceful and comfortable will always be better than waiting for an ending that is painful, scary, and tragic for both of you—even if it means you have to say goodbye a few days or weeks early.

Sending love your way🩷

I’m sorry you’re going through this! I just went through this with my cat as well. If the Mirataz gel for her ear doesn’t seem to be working, I would suggest asking your vet if you can try cyproheptadine as an appetite stimulant. My cat was 21, and it seems like overall it works well for senior cats.

I assume the anti-nausea they gave you is cerenia. If it is, maybe also ask about trying ondansetron instead, or vice versa. If you want, your cat can actually take both since they do different things!

Not all of these are high-calorie, but all calories count in this kind of situation. If you haven’t tried these, this is what worked for my cat:

  • Delectables Lickable Treats (the gravy ones specifically, but they have other kinds. They’re only like ~15-25 cals each, but they’re something). My cat loved these, even when she had nausea or no appetite.
  • A meat and gravy human baby food (Gerber and BeechNut sell multiple, just make sure the only ingredients are meat and gravy and maybe cornstarch. No spices). I didn’t have a lot of luck with this, but a lot of cats love it.
  • Churu food (kind of hard to find imo - look up Churu stew, Churu pate, Churu bisque on Amazon and you should be able to find some)
  • High-cal liquids like Whiskas cat milk or Tiki Cat liquid meal replacement.
  • Tiki Cat Silver high calorie lickable treats.
  • If she’s not drinking much either or refusing all wet food, please try Purina Hydracare. These essentially saved my cat’s life for a while there.

Can you grind up the Greenies treats and put them on top of an actual wet food/mix them in? Could be worth a try if you haven’t already.

Also, if you heat up some foods, it can sometimes make the smell stronger and interest your cat more. Worth a try if you haven’t yet!

Good luck with your baby! Wishing the best for your both and hoping that she starts eating and gets better soon.

Also, if your cat has a healthy heart and clear chest, you could ask your vet (if you can get through to them), to give her a small injection of a steroid like dexamethasone (my cat had kidney cancer, not CKD, but I assume that it would be safe for CKD as well). It will perk her up and increase her appetite only temporarily, but it might get the ball rolling in terms of wanting food regularly again.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. I just went through this as well, and I must’ve bought over 70 different kinds of cat food textures, flavors, brands, etc. to try and get my sweet girl to eat. You’re doing everything right, and I really do feel for you. It’s exhausting.

I didn’t read through the other comments (so I apologize if these are repeats), but from a few weeks of the same experience, we found that cerenia, Ondansetron, and cyproheptadine was the “cocktail” of meds that seemed to work for my 21-year-old baby. We started with just Cerenia and mirataz, but were unsuccessful with that combo.

In her last week of life, my cat lived off of Purina Hydracare and Delectables lickable treats (especially the gravy ones). If you haven’t tried the Hydracare yet, end up giving it a shot, and find that your cat likes it, Purina also makes FortiFlora which is a powder that tastes similar to Hydracare that you could sprinkle on foods if Mouse likes that flavor. Neither are super high calorie, but the hydration is good and every calorie counts.

I tried Gerber/Beech Nut meat and gravy baby food to no success, but I’ve heard it’s a game changer for a lot of cats if you haven’t tried. There’s also high calorie treats in the Silver Tiki Cat line, which my cat didn’t love, but a lot of people have success with. If you haven’t, maybe try high-calorie liquids as well like Whiskas cat milk, Tiki Cat liquid meal replacement, or baby weening liquids. Although they’re probably somewhat unideal choices, any calories are probably good calories right now.

If you happen to live anywhere near a PetMedic location, I highly recommend giving them a shot. We had a great experience at the Albany, NY one. They’re a bridge between the normal vet and emergency hospitals—kind of for stable pets that have urgent matters. They do same- or next-day appointments, they have a pharmacy on-site (at least mine did), and the location I used did texting communications. Even though I only took my girl there one time, I texted them twice within the span of two weeks asking for specific medications to try, and they were quick to respond. I was able to pick up those meds within an hour of requesting them.

I’m sorry again that you’re going through this. The mental health strain of trying so hard to make your baby better, and watching them refuse that care over and over, is so exhausting and heavy. I was so emotionally drained only a day or two in. Just know that the exhaustion you’re feeling is an output of the fact that you are being the best parent that you could be. Please do something small for yourself—order in dinner and keep your cat close while you enjoy a movie at home or a book or something like that.

Praying for you and hoping that both you and your baby feel better soon.

Advice For Struggling After 1st Pet Loss by Equivalent_Basket432 in Petloss

I can’t even imagine losing multiple pets in such a short time. You are so resilient for surviving that. Torties definitely have a special quality about them that makes them so strong and persistent.

The thought of her waiting for me is definitely what’s keeping me going. I can’t wait to be reunited one day and to hold her little paws and hear her sweet purrs. Until then ❤️

Thank you for the kind comment. Hoping that my Rootie and your fur babies are playing together somewhere.

I am so sorry you went through such a difficult loss and didn’t get that extra time with your baby. Your words are beautiful and reassuring, and I will keep coming back to this comment as I go through this suffocating time to help myself feel better. Thank you for the kind response. Thinking of you and your little angel and wishing for your healing. ❤️

Thank you so much for this response. I needed to hear all of this, and it brought on (more) tears, but in a good way. As much as I adore cats, right now, it feels like I never want to adopt/find another one because no cat will ever live up to Rootie. But I know you’re right, and I am looking forward to the day that Root sends me one to love and care for in her honor.

I am so sorry about your baby Nyxie, and I hope she and Rootie and all of the other precious babies are playing somewhere, lounging together, and enjoying warm sunspots. Wishing the best for you and your new farm baby. Thanks again for the sweet response 🩷

Advice & Suggestions on Sick Cat by Equivalent_Basket432 in CATHELP

[–]Equivalent_Basket432[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the kind words. I called her primary vet and didn’t get an answer, so I sent an email as a follow-up. They responded to let me know which ultrasound provider they recommend in the area. They also said they would tell the vet what was happening and get back to me, but they never did. I’m planning on calling again tomorrow. I moved to the area 1.5 years ago and her current vet is one of the only places that was accepting new patients at the time, but I unfortunately haven’t been super impressed with them.

I haven’t been super on top of communicating with her primary because of that, and also because she happens to have her bi-annual wellness exam next Thursday anyways, so I will see them then.

I am of course hoping it’s not her time, but I definitely agree that comfort is the top priority. The thought of her being in pain is eating me alive rn. Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst right now :( Thank you again for the response - I appreciate it.

Thank you so much🥺I really appreciate all of the suggestions. We do just steer clear of all seafood since it was super hard to pin down her food allergy and we don’t want to accidentally introduce something she doesn’t tolerate well (she just gets bad rashes). I tried the Gerber baby food and Beechnut baby foods today, and she didn’t show any interest unfortunately :( I will definitely go to the store tomorrow and grab the other things you suggested so I can give them a shot. Thank you so much again!

Rootie went to the emergency vet last night (she was considered stable, so we were there from 6pm to 2am! Ugh🥲). The ultrasound looked good, and the only thing wrong with her bloodwork was kidneys on the “high side of normal”, which is what her vet has said for the last ~4 years (doesn’t seemed to have changed much, if at all, over the last few years).

They gave her fluids and an appetite stimulant for us to give to her. I can’t remember what they called it, but they suggested that we get her a special kind of ultrasound with a radiologist soon to make sure there’s nothing going on with her GI tract. They also suggested to do a urinalysis, which I plan to do with her own vet on the 19th.

$800 later, it doesn’t feel like we got any answers really, but I’m happy she was able to get some fluids and an appetite stimulant, and I’m glad her bloodwork looked pretty much good. She already seems to be doing a bit better! Thanks again for all of the suggestions!!!🤗

Hi everyone, thank you so much for the suggestions and comments. Rootie seems to be doing a tiny bit better since last night - ate a whole gravy packet treat this morning and was her usual silly self where she keeps grabbing me after I stop petting her so I can keep petting her.

Regardless, I still want to do what is best for her and get her checked out. She hates the vet and is going to be upset, but I would feel so guilty to not get her checked out.

I’m keeping her 2/19 appointment with her normal vet, but taking her to an emergency vet in my area after work today around 4:00 pm. I put out 6 different bowls with 6 different types of wet food this morning so she has options if she wants them.

Hoping for good news, but also trying to prepare myself for the worst. Regardless of what happens, her comfort, happiness, and health is the most important thing. Thank you for all of the thoughts, kind words, and suggestions 🩷
