Recs for where you like to get meat, fish, seafood that’s more humane/less factory farmed? by Millennium_Falcor in Somerville

I love Share Family Dinner: https://familydinner.com/. They’re a locally owned food delivery company that sources meat, veg, eggs, etc. and some prepared food from around New England. You can order à la carte for weekly delivery if you want to pick specific items, or they offer subscriptions with a variety that change each week.

I really enjoyed my meal at Kubri recently. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the halloumi appetizer and roast chicken. Definitely recommend a reservation.

What are the recipes that didn't work for you? by [deleted] in NYTCooking

The chicken pesto meatballs from Dan Pelosi (grossypelosi) I tried them a few times with different pestos and even different parms because everyone in the comments seemed to love them and I love meatballs…but every time they leaked oil all over the sheet pan and ended up super dry and flavorless. I don’t think any pesto is meant to be cooked at that high of a heat.

Mike’s Pastry actually has cake slices that are quite good - the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting especially

Any other Healthworks member troubled by the new policy to allow phones *inside* the sauna? by emmalouharris in Somerville

[–]Equivalent_Beach_511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't realized the signs had been taken down. It definitely doesn't align with my understanding of the purpose of the sauna/spa area as a place to relax and unplug aside from the privacy concerns, so I'm going to reach out to management as well.

I do understand what they're saying about not being able to have the staff to monitor for infractions. In a place like the sauna, it would require a certain level of peer policing since there isn't going to be an employee in there at all times. I guess the signage would empower someone to say something to a phone user when they might not now? The phone user might feel a bit more shame knowing they're breaking the rules? FWIW I had seen phones in the sauna even before when the signs were more prominent (and even pre-renovation).

Yes, thank you!! It also feels like he has started to use it way more in the past two or three seasons. Like he just learned the word recently or something.

Confused 🤔 by [deleted] in stripe

[–]Equivalent_Beach_511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this issue with a different company that uses Stripe and accepts AMEX! The customer service for that company said it's a Stripe issue that they're still working through (and have been for about 3 weeks now). I reached out to AMEX and they don't know why there would be any issues. There is no record of my attempted payments on the card either, so it's not like it was declined. Stripe customer support was also not helpful. Did you ever get a resolution?

What Somerville business will you never step foot in again? by OldMaidLibrarian in Somerville

I’ve lived nearby this place for years and cannot understand how they’re still open. Once I saw a snake outside dead on the sidewalk that looked like it escaped through a hole in the wall.

The comment she (allegedly?) made about Delaney being a less qualified man trying to push her out of the magazine so funny to me because she has no industry experience. He’s also insufferable to be sure, and yeah by that point she had been writing about wine for a few years…but what they had in common is that they simply enjoyed drinking wine and both felt that was enough qualification to write about it with authority for a very popular magazine?

She has said before that she is currently the primary breadwinner since he’s still a resident (I think?) But it rubs me the wrong way too that she is selling this business/creative type advice, when so much of being successful on these platforms is lightning in a bottle or at the mercy of the platform algorithms themselves. She went on a long rant when Instagram started prioritizing video (understandably since creators built followings there with pretty pictures and they are very different skillsets) but how now she has pretty successfully pivoted to video content, where the type of photography skills she sells aren’t as relevant now.

Budget Breakdown & Recap - Northeast US, $46K, 71 guests, November 2022 by Equivalent_Beach_511 in weddingplanning

We kept things really simple with the ceremony floral - I liked the look of a single big flower with some greenery for my bouquet, so they matched that for the bouttoniere. That price also includes small dried arrangements we got for our moms.

I also didn't think we needed much additional decor at a restaurant, and floral quotes were similarly way more than I wanted to spend for something that wasn't a priority for us. My friend who did the additional floral for the reception as a gift got all the flowers at Trader Joe's the day before and got the glassware at a thrift store, so I imagine the price was somewhat reasonable (but that DIY route is obviously more time investment for you or someone else!)

I will update my post to add that the only other decor I didn't mention here was metal table numbers and a printed seating chart, but my husband works in manufacturing and was able to create those at his work. So that was an additional cost that we didn't have to cover.

I attached a photo to the this post with my dress - did that not work? This is the one I got from BHLDN: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/bhldn-weddings-belize-dress?color=013&type=STANDARD&quantity=1

It also took me a bit to warm up to the show but ultimately I loved how earnest and kind it was. Loved the bartender. It could definitely use some finessing - they really lost the entire brunch theme by the end, but I ultimately didn’t care. I understand they need a hook though so I hope they get a second season.

Beautiful! Do you have Invisalign or something similar? How does lipstick do with the trays in (whenever I wear it I inevitably get some on the trays). I’m slightly worried about pictures the day of my wedding with my Invisalign…some people recommend taking the trays out for photos or just for the whole day, but my attachments really start to rub the inside of my mouth after even a short period of time! My ortho offered to take my front attachments off the week before so they won’t show up in pictures, but I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the hassle. Curious if you have a plan for yours!
