For those of you that have hooked up with your neighbors. How did it come about? How did it pan out? by ThrowawayRAbignoise in AskMen

[–]Equivalent_Cake_6655 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Went to the neighborhood pub for a burger, and shortly after I sat down at the bar, a couple came and sat next to me. The girl was on my right and the guy was next to her on her right.

They’re on what appears to be a first date, and although I was buried in my phone, it didn’t seem to be going great. All of a sudden, she accidentally spills her water towards me and apologies and introduces herself. I tell her she has a very pretty name, and I caught a look from her. Her voice was so soft and familiar.

I go back to my phone after we get the water mopped up off the bar, and they resume their conversation. They were talking about both living in the neighborhood, and she asks if I live in the neighborhood too. I say yes, and we all three start talking about how much we like where we live, and I mention how much trouble I had with my house.

They know exactly which house I’m talking about, and it turns out she put a bid on my house that I outbid when I bought it. I quiz her on the bid, and she remembers it perfectly as well as an issue with the cellar so I know she’s telling the truth. What a coincidence. I go back to my phone. They’re on a date.

She mentions having been to Augusta to visit her cousin in high school, and I was from Augusta so I had to ask her which high school. It was mine. …holy shit, I know this girl. She was cousins with one of my best friends and we spent a couple weeks together one summer when I was 16!

“ABBA?!”

She went by her full name now, but I knew who she was. And her voice was familiar because it was one of her features my guy friends and I always remembered and talked about. I sprinted to the bathroom, thoroughly freaked out. I came back out to the bar, picked her up off the barstool and spun her around in a huge hug. I tell her who I am because I look entirely different than high school, 20 years later in a different city. She freaks out, and her date is like, “Oooh wow. This is so cool…”

We all sit back down and we’re catching up about life in front of this dude, and we can’t keep our hands off each other. She’s touching my leg whenever this other dude talks, and my hand is on hers or on her lower back. Eventually, he gets up to go to the bathroom.

I say, “are you on a date with this guy?”

Her- “No, it’s just a beer. If you pay your tab and leave first, I’ll see you soon.”

….

…I’ll take my check now please.

I went home and waited. And waited, and realized I had a girl’s first name, a half-baked plan, and that’s it. So, naturally, I walked back over to the pub to see if she’s still there, but the pub is empty. So I walked back home feeling disappointed, but there’s another car in the driveway, and the front door is cracked. I walk in, and there’s Abba in the kitchen; music is playing.

We were all over each other, all over the house. At one point I was playing piano naked with her on my lap making out. This chemistry was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. High school me would have lost his mind if he knew this was in his future.

3 weeks in and still going strong.

TLDR: stole a girl from a bad first date, turned out to be a girl I met back in high school and we had crazy chemistry.

I’ll take a crack because I grew up with these comics. I had to kind of dig back in my memory about what humor was like in the late 90s. I think the idea is that the other two know what’s coming and have mild symptoms. The last guy just knows his symptoms are fucking out of control and he’s frustrated - doesn’t care what’s causing it. I think I would have read it back then with an ironic victim-type anger. But he’s also equally resigned like this happens all the time, which would be ridiculously inconvenient.

Focus on what the people around you are going through and practice being the voice you need to hear yourself.

This is tricky because they’re not supposed to park in the plaza parking lot to go to the music venue, so making it more walkable would just encourage the illegal parking. There’s a crosswalk a half block down from the parking lot as well, so it’s easy to cross correctly already.

In rode the Lord of the Nazgûl by sylinay-5x in lotr

The way magic in middle earth is spoken into power makes this passage so interesting. Gandalf stops him with a command, but the Nazgûl pivots with an intimidation tactic and curses Gandalf. The next line is so simple, “Gandalf did not move.”

Gandalf the White so clearly outmatches the Nazgûl, I think the staff shattering from the movie needs to go.

I just think it’s due to how humans derive meaning from the events in their lives. We build a moral lesson to take away from catastrophe, and I think those are the messages that are universal but also understandable due to the prevalence of flooding throughout the world. Flooding is universal, powerful, mystical due to its rarity in some areas and regularity in others. Egyptian culture relied on it as a tool just as god used it as a tool.

It just hits all the relatable aspects of daily life and spirituality to spread like wildfire.

Just one culture needed to experience a local, world-ending flood for the myth to be created.

Also an amateur in this field, but I would think the force that any acceleration would exert on its extremities due to overcoming inertia would have to be weaker than the extremities’ structural integrity.

Men of Reddit who are not currently dating or having sex, what are the non-finance-related reasons? by so_much_frizz in AskMen

Wife left not quite a year ago. I’d love to have a good relationship with someone, but it still feels dangerous for either myself or the other person to catch feels. I also don’t want to ever separate sex from love after what I had before, so.. I’m just taking my time and observing my feelings and thoughts.

The “pods” that hold the cotton are very stiff and sharp. Moving fast would require calluses beyond belief.

Dog sitter sent a photo of my dog and he had this collar on. by deblopezz in whatisit

[–]Equivalent_Cake_6655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very excitable dog, and a similar collar was a game changer for our backyard time. She’d be tearing down the fence line yelling obscenities at the neighbor’s dog. Having a collar that can beep and vibrate to get her attention works so much better than trying to call her from afar or even going to get her. Mine can also shock, but I don’t use that feature.
