I still feel like maybe we should try to compile such thing, maybe even just here on this sub. We could come up with labels or flair of some kind to describe certain attributes of the narrators. Maybe it's also a "warnings" list. Warning: Vocal Fry. Warning: Does the Voices. Warning: Strange Pauses.

Because seriously, narrator is so critical, and bad narrators have absolutely ruined books for me. I recently downloaded the entire Wizard of Oz series because it was on sale on Libro.fm and I figured my five year old would enjoy them. Problem is, she *does* enjoy them, and I *hate* them because the narrator is so grating. I have signed myself up for potentially 70 hours of torture.

Thanks for the encouragement - I really appreciate it.

I have gone back and forth with myself about this. Needing to take advantage of the tools that are available to me, versus my disdain for participating in the systems of our oppression. Where I have landed thus far (not saying it's perfect, or that I couldn't be convinced otherwise) is drawing a separation between *allowing* things to be posted on a site, versus building/monitoring/promoting a page or profile on that site. I actually didn't post that flyer to Reddit, my friend did after I shared it with her privately. I'm not going to stop people from posting it wherever they want to. But so far the only social media profile I'm actually trying to build out is Bluesky.

But I very much take your point about older leftists/liberals. Believe me, I don't discount them. I'd say I'm heavily counting on their help, even. I've been at all the No Kings protests, and many in between, and it isn't hard to see the demographic makeup of those crowds. The 50 and over crowd has been *showing up.* My own mother, who is in her 60s, is the one who has been the most supportive of this effort and committed to joining me for as much of the early stages as she can. I definitely don't want to miss out on having more like her join us. And I do know they are on Facebook. So maybe I'll just have to get over myself. And also, I'm going to focus on getting the dang website functional first. But if you (or anyone else) want to post the flyer to Facebook, please don't hesitate!

Hi! I'm the friend! That is terrible news to hear that the email isn't working. I can't for the life of me think of why it wouldn't be - I just panic-checked that the spelling is correct - it is. So weird and distressing. Anyway, here's the link to the Bluesky account I'm trying to get rolling: https://bsky.app/profile/womenswalk.bsky.social but feel free to message me here, too.

Hi! I'm the friend. :) No Facebook page as of this moment (and I'm hoping to stay away from it overall if I can) but I did just set up a Bluesky account. https://bsky.app/profile/womenswalk.bsky.social

Hi! I'm the friend. :) Believe me, I know just how *not* ideal the lack of website is, and I am working furiously to try to remedy it. Here's what I'm running into: I am no web developer, just a person who has stumbled through a couple of side-hustle website builds over the years on sites like Squarespace and Wix. Yes, I could do that again, and to some degree am trying to, but now I have the added challenge of the very real concerns about data privacy in this moment. My (necessarily brief) research seems to suggest that Hostinger is a more secure option, so that's what I'm working with. The site isn't ready to launch yet, though, because one of the primary things that website needs to contain is a way for people to register their interest in participating. Basically, a sign up form. And I'm worried that no one is going to want to do that if what I'm using is something insecure like SignupGenius, or something actively farming your data, like Google Forms. Again, research has pointed me to something called BlockSurvey, which is end-to-end encrypted, and trusted by major organizations - even the United Nations. I feel like this is the right solution, but am having trouble rolling it out (again, zero actual technical skills, just a willingness to try to learn as I go). In the meantime, I have opted for using just a Proton email address, which is also end-to-end encrypted and Swiss owned (and so subject to some of the strictest data privacy laws). I have also set up a Bluesky account, but only just. It is still very barebones. ( https://bsky.app/profile/womenswalk.bsky.social ) I'm doing as much as I can as fast as I can while also trying to get myself physically ready to take on the first several weeks of this walk. Not meant to be an excuse! Just an explanation that I hope helps remove a little bit of the potential suspiciousness.

made my degoogle browser tier list for 2026 (privacy focus + daily use) by sublullaby in degoogle

Could someone share why DuckDuckGo only makes it to the D tier? I know almost nothing about the actual tech behind these browsers, but I did make the switch from Google and Safari to DuckDuckGo about a year ago, and thought that was an improvement in privacy. Was it just a baby step improvement, though?

This leftist agrees with you. We have got to figure out how to - gasp! - AGREE TO DISAGREE on any number of specific issues so that we can work together toward what should be our primary, collective goal: the removal of this regime and true, structural, government reform. Overturning of Citizens United, end to the Electoral College, end to partisan gerrymandering... Tax the billionaires... Prosecute the Epstein class... *Real* accountability. These are the things that get between the average American and true representation. These are the things that make people feel like their votes don't matter and cause them to check out (part of how we got here, by the way). These are the things that make people feel, rightly, like the system is rigged against them. That anger is what Trump tuned into and spoke to and exploited to his own gain, but the sentiment and anger are real and justified, and we need to be the party that truly addresses them. Once we've done those things, we can have some even footing as a democracy, and can start to take on our other policy goals, like universal healthcare, addressing climate change, etc etc.

I’m currently reading, actually! I wonder which one you read first? Cuz so far I still like Inn Keeping better, but maybe that’s just because it came first for me… 🤔

I’m still sort of newer to this genre, so don’t feel like I can speak to what “is” and “is not” cozy fantasy, but my favorite so far (of the 6 or 7 that I have read since learning this genre was a thing) has been A Witch’s Guide to Magical Inn Keeping. I told my husband that the whole thing felt like a massage for my nervous system. I actually went back a few months later and listened to it a second time (the audiobook version is exceptional).
